C3G STANDARD PLAYTEST FEEDBACK FORM

NAME OF THE PLAYTEST UNIT: Manticore

Army Test
Map: A Couple Puddles
Units: Manticore (140), Red Arrow, Hawkeye (Kate Bishop), Hawkeye (Avengers) (650) VS Luke Cage, Shang-Chi, Daredevil (II) (650)

Spoiler Alert!

Archers get a lot of turn efficiency in this army, always getting a second attack from either Kate or Roy. And Hawkeye is there to get a stronger attack after Manticore uses his non-lethal quiver.

Manticore struggles to lay down any of his non-lethal arrows due to the high d20 roll required, but he eventually nails a glue arrow on Iron Fist to keep him out of the action. Daredevil takes out Kate then Red Arrow, while the Archers only manage minimal wounds on the Defenders.

Hawkeye eventually takes out Luke, then Iron Fist moved up as the glue had worn off, and Iron Fist kills Hawkeye. Iron Fist goes after Manticore, so Manticore teleports away. They play cat and mouse for a bit, but eventually Manticore falls.


Who won? List figures remaining in the winning army (include life remaining for heroes): Iron Fist (1 wound), Daredevil (1 wound) win.

Units: Manticore (140), Ms. Marvel, Judge Dredd (700) VS TMNT (700)

Spoiler Alert!

Turtles and Avengers move up. Manticore lands a glue arrow on Raph to try and prevent him from engaging his allies (Raph couldn’t catch anyone anyway, but the glue prevents him from Stealth Leaping). Dredd lands a high explosive shot to kill Donatello, while Ms. Marvel kills Mikey.

I played this out two ways as initiative was crucial here with a heavily wounded Ms. Marvel and a heavily wounded Leo. Either way, Manticore did nothing from this point on.

1) Ms. Marvel wins initiative: Ms. Marvel kills Leo, then she and Dredd finish off Raph before he can reveal OM2.

2) Turtles win initiative: Turtles kill Ms. Marvel, then Dredd, then Manticore. The Avengers never got to reveal an OM.


Who won? List figures remaining in the winning army (include life remaining for heroes): Game 1: Ms. Marvel (3 wounds), Dredd, Manticore win.

Game 2: Leo (4 wounds), Raph (1 wound) win.

Each army slow-rolls up. The Fan4 take out Liu Kang with minimal wounds, and Mister Fantastic manages to tie down Green Arrow thanks to an initiative switch. Manticore enters the fight, attack bonding with Hawkeye and activating the engaged Green Arrow until he runs out of markers. Manticore lands a glue arrow on Human Torch to prevent Flame on 4 for the round. The Fan4 take out Green Arrow. Manticore lands a flash arrow on Human Torch then he and Hawkeye finally kill Mister Fantastic.

The Fan4 take out Hawkeye then Batman enters the field. Batman takes out Invisible Woman. Batman puts 4 wounds on Thing before falling. Manticore is left alone to take on Human Torch & Thing. Manticore teleports away, gets 3 wounds from Human Torch, then lands a glue marker on Human Torch. Human Torch supernovas for the win.

THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY: Fun design! However, Manticore felt fairly weak overall. He’s got long range which is appreciated, but a single attack of 3 isn’t much - and his special arrows are unreliable, though helpful. Personally I’d just lower the d20 cutoff, as the effects are quite fun and helpful when they activate.

I’d also limit the amount of Arrow Markers to 1 each for simplicity but that’s a personal preference, I just find it weird how you’d never need all 4 markers as he gets a max of 3 rolls of the power per round. Not something I feel strongly about there if you prefer otherwise.

His Emergency Teleport is super useful, getting him out of binds and keeping that long range in play. Manticore often felt like a safe option to put OMs because of that power. Definitely useful as an endgame figure.

I think in addition to a slight boost to the roll on Non-Lethal Quiver (or whatever change you want to make as the LD - don’t feel like you have to go with my suggestions!), he could be safely taken down 10 points. Comparing to similar figures like Green Arrow (Connor), Hawkeye (Kate), or Artemis, 130 points seems about right. I’d say even 120, but with his first power not able to be tested yet, I’d aim a tad higher.

Thanks a ton for the PT Arch!

I'm on board for bringing his D20 roll down. Non-Lethal Quiver is his main power, so making it a bit easier to use makes sense. I'll nudge it back down to 12+.

Having 4 markers isn't really necessary, but I do like being able to place 3 markers if you luck out and land the roll 3 times in one round.

A 10 point drop sounds fine to me.

Updated the SP, dropped him to 130 points from 140 points and lowered the roll for Non-Lethal Quiver to 12+ from 14+.

I propose we move to Public Playtesting.
