Re: What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?
Interesting news for those of you into RPGs. Paizo, the developers of the Pathfinder RPG, are working on a Science Fantasy RPG called Starfinder. It is set in the future of their Golarion setting. Should be released at GenCon 2017.

Re: What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?
I've now solitaired 9 of the 20 new The Great War Tank Expansion scenarios (a neat trick for someone who doesn't own it yet). This after my 8 'retrofit' core game plus tank games. My experiences and comments are here on bgg:
https://www.boardgamegeek.com/article/22828019#22828019 Richard Borg has presented another fine set, with all kinds of excitements and subtleties to be enjoyed and explored. And I'm evolving an entirely new kind of combined arms doctrine to cover it! Most of these scenarios are longer, requiring more Victory Medals to win. And since the tank was only invented and used later in the war, many of their games are 'green side' open field battles, which play quite differently than the core game trench fests. Re: What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?
Been playing a lot of X-Wing with my dad since we started at Christmas. Really love the game!
Also have been playing Epic Card Game, LotR LCG, Dead of Winter, Mice and Mystics, Summoner Wars, and Forbidden Island. I own Imperial Assault and Runebound 3.0 but haven't gotten them to the table. That being said, what can you guys tell me about the following games, including value for what you pay, as well as any other suggestions you might have? I like games that have a lot of theme, and generally combat oriented. I really dig Fantasy universes. Thanks! Arcadia Quest Defenders of the Realm Descent 2.0 Elder Sign Eldritch Horror and Foresaken Lore expansion 5x Epic Card Game Tyrants Expansion Flash Point Fire Rescue Fuse Ghost Stories Legendary: Marvel Legends of Andor Mage Knight Millennium Blades Robinson Crusoe: Adventure on the Cursed Island Sentinels of the Multiverse Enhanced Edition Shadows of Brimstone Space Alert Star Wars: Rebellion Super Dungeon Explore: Forgotten King The Battle of Five Armies War of the Ring 2.0 Yggdrasil and Asgard expansion Zombicide: Black Plague Casters of Valhalla: THE Competitive HeroScape Podcast!

Arcadia Quest - Never played it but not a fan of Cool Mini or Not overall Defenders of the Realm - Excellent game. Pandemic but with orcs that you kill! Descent 2.0 - Best Dungeon Crawl ever. Elder Sign - Love it. Eldritch Horror and Foresaken Lore expansion - Haven't played it. 5x Epic Card Game Tyrants Expansion - If you like MtG you should dig this. Flash Point Fire Rescue - It's OK. Fairly easy. Fuse - Never heard of it. Ghost Stories - Excellent game. Very tough. Legendary: Marvel - Not a big fan. I enjoy Sentinels much more. However I am a big fan of Legendat Encounters: Aliens. Very thematic, though you may be to young to be into the movies. Legends of Andor - Too Euro for me Mage Knight - Also too Euro for me Millennium Blades - Never heard of it Robinson Crusoe: Adventure on the Cursed Island - Very Euro Sentinels of the Multiverse Enhanced Edition - Best Superhero game out there Shadows of Brimstone - It's OK. But there is a ton of randomness, and I mean a ton Space Alert - Fun Game Star Wars: Rebellion - Fun game. Similar to Fury of Dracula but very very thematic. I do worry about replayability though. Super Dungeon Explore: Forgotten King - Cool Mini or Not is not my thing The Battle of Five Armies - Pretty thematic War of the Ring 2.0 - Thematic Yggdrasil and Asgard expansion - Love it. PRetty difficult as well. Zombicide: Black Plague - Not a Zombicide fan. Dragon Dice - (the 2nd best game there is) Learn to Play! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1h3q6...wujcr8vVf8e21G |

Re: What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?
I own Arcadia Quest, it's a fast paced PvPvE game. Real simple to learn and is best played with 4 players, 3 is fun and 2 is ok-meh. The good thing about this game is that you don't need a Dungeon Master, although it can be a bad thing too, as NPCs are quite static.

Re: What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?
@OrcElfArmyOne
, Zombicide Black plague is a zombie survival game that is co-op or you can play it by yourself. It mixes zombie survival with fantasy where your characters battle the undead hordes with bows, swords, various other hand to hand weapons, magic spells and enchantments. It is quite fun. I own all the zombicide games and it seems to be my favorite version of them all. You can also mix the sets up and play. Me and a couple of my brothers have been playing it a bit, knocking out the scenarios when ever they get a chance to come out to my place. I really like it, you can find it for a decent price on amazon. With CoolMiniorNot you get a lot of bang for your buck as far as what comes in the box. Now, on to Imperial assault-get it out of the box, it is super fun. I have not even tried the campaign and have already got my hands on 90% of everything they have out for it. My brothers and I love to play skirmish battles, the return to hoth box even has outlined rules for more than 2 players. Also a very fun games. I have been on the fence about buying Descent. It looks awesome, but is essentially the same thing as Imperial Assault but fantasy instead. Also there is no skirmish mode for it, it is a campaign only. Not saying that is a bad thing as Imperial Assault is cool, so descent is probably cool as well. I just sunk more of my money into making imperial assault cooler. Hope this helps. have fun.

Re: What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?
I haven't picked up Forsaken Lore yet, bu Eldritch Horror is phenomenal.
If you've played Arkham Horror at all, think of it as the same game except completely streamlined and more story-driven. I'm a huge Lovecraft fan so I love the setting, and it's dripping with theme. Can't comment on too many others on your list! |

Re: What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?
Now that we have played Star Wars Rebellion a bunch of times and become more comfortable with what each side is trying to do, the different levels of tactics required to execute an effective game plan makes the game very interesting and fun to play.

Re: What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?
War of the Ring is super thematic if you are into Lord of the Rings. It is widely considered one of the best Theme board games ever made. I own and have played it many times and it is probably my all time favorite.
I have not played Battle of Five Armies, but it has many similarities to War of the Ring (same designer, combat is similar or same). BoFA is generally considered the weaker of the two. I own Space Alert. I was really excited about it before I got it. After playing it a few times, it's just OK. There is a lot of chaotic stuff going on, because you don't have enough players to man everything (shields, guns, battle-bots, bridge, engine room) so people are trying to run around doing something, but not sure when or what to do. To really be successful, you have to time certain events to occur at the same time. This is quite difficult to accomplish. Flashpoint is fun; not amazing, but fun. I know it's not on your list since you already have it, but since it is the same system as Descent 2.0, I think it applies: I'm not a big fan of Imperial Assault. I've played it a few times and found that the object of the game was not to dungeon crawl and find cool stuff and explore and fight new monsters and discover traps and secret doors, but the object is to run as fast as you can through the rooms and get to the end of the scenario before the round timer runs out. Not very fun. Heroes of Star Wars Scape (HoSS) My Custom Repaint Figures / My Custom Terrain / My Maps & Scenarios / My Trade List Red 6 standing by! |
