Against the 3+3. As cool as it is, a unique squad with a base 3 defense is just way too easy to take down. I think it will significantly hamper their usability

I don't fully agree that base 3 defense will hamper their usability here. They're still at 6 defense by default, with it dropping down to 3 only after they've taken a turn for the round. This will probably lead to an adjustment where players don't take many turns in a row with the sentinels, often saving them for OM3 or one big push akin to the Kozuke. Losing one also isn't the end of the world, since they'll probably want to stay immobile after engaging a target.
In any case, I think that it's an easier change to bump them up to 4+2D than to drop it to 3+3D in playtesting. If the window after having an OM revealed is too crippling to them, we can always drop the price to retain the weakness or remove it to make them more consistent. Proud Member of Platyfly!

3D after using them, or after they are the only units left on your board makes them as tough as heavies which isn't bad but these won't have any heroes or inherent stat boosters that are easily used with them. Also, with uniques as soon as they take one wound they start becoming less efficient immediately.
Most likely it'll be fine, stone form will help them against ranged attacks and then once they move into the fray they'll be like heavies or ashura with no perks essentially. At 20 points a figure they are not a bad introduction to the game squad but I don't think a player would be too enticed to use them after getting past this initial introduction set. |

Another thing worth noting is the synergy with Sir Gilbert (as Blue Trails found, he ended up making an iteration of the Soul-Guides much better than we had expected with the MacDirk Warriors). It'd be clunky for a competitive meta, but being able to move cheap 6D figures for "free" might be useful, especially since the sentinels look like an analog to the Izumi Samurai as defensive guards that don't want active turns.
Another thought if we want to increase their viability past the AotV box could be swapping out the Sentinel class for something more useful like Guard, albeit I don't love that change other than making it clearer that these guys want to tie down figures and then stay in stone form. Sentinels have Concan, Guards have Warden 816 and that's about it. Not sure how that makes Guard more usfeul. Sentinel works anyway: "A person or thing that watches or stands as if watching."
