My version of the guards themselves just aggressively attacked anyone who was hassling their King.

LOYAL TO THE KING OF ATLATNIS
After revealing an Order Marker on an Atlantean King's card, before taking a turn with that Atlantean King, you may move up to 6 Atlantean Palace Guards you control up to 4 spaces each. If your Atlantean Palace Guard attacks a figure adjacent to an Atlantean King you control with a normal attack, it may attack one additional time.

WATER STRENGTH 1
Atlantean Palace Guards do not stop their movement when entering water spaces. Add 1 to an Atlantean Palace Guards' attack and defense while he is on a water space.

Yeah, Betawolf's stuff is what I was trying to conjure. That's what I want.

And I wasn't meaning for the playmats to be all you have (i.e. only 2D terrain) but more the base that you build on top of.

I'd more worry about movement changes and maybe some underwater rule that can cause non-Atlanteans to take damage based on how long they're under water (intense pressure and all).

It could be like an underwater level in a video game, where normal figures slowly run out of air, but there are convenient cracks in the ground letting out air bubbles they can use to stock back up

Oooh, we need an "air bubble" terrain piece or DO.

Beta wolf essentially used the Air elementals for this purpose...at the end of the round any breathing non water based figure received a wound if not adjacent. We could do something similar. we could have air pockets or shore spaces

Or just give everyone Glyph of the Gift of Atlantis....

That’s all he really does though so it makes sense. I could see a little lower but even temporary mind control is really powerful.

I’d make him Undead for Nth Metal interactions.

I’d cut the acrobatic power. It’s highly thematic from his life but not something he does all that often as a ghost, IMO.

I for sure want the possession to be the hallmark of the card, but mind control is some powerful stuff so it will take some working through.

I very much want to do a Brightest Day Deadman, but I won't let that happen before regular Deadman

I'm excited to see you tackling him! I think you have a solid power set there that makes sense, I'd just be tempted to cut the acrobatics power for the sake of elegance and because, again, I'm just not sure it's really something he does in ghost form.

I think at least once he basically made someone able to do acrobatics when possessing them. I think it might have actually been Oracle in Blackest Night. I'm pretty confident it happened, but can't remember where.

That is something I was thinking of; what if the acrobatics were represented by him instilling a small agility bonus to the person he's possessing?
