Personally, I'd be a-okay with not really following up on the Mandarin any further. I liked Iron Man 3, they did something unconventional with kind of a flat character, and that's plenty for me.

They took a not-particularly interesting and slightly offensive character and used it for a fun and hilarious twist, while still giving Tony a super-powerful, crazy villain to fight.

If Marvel does go back to the Mandarin, I won't be disappointed, because I have faith in Marvel to make him a more interesting character, but I would be fine if the "the real" Mandarin never shows up.

I did read that when Marvel got the movie rights back for Hulk, the other studio retained the distribution rights which makes Disney not really eager to make another Hulk stand alone movie since they would have to then share in the profits. I don't know when or if that deal expires, but if/when it does is when we may see the next Hulk movie get done. Hopefully Planet Hulk since GotG (and maybe also the Inhumans) will have more fully explored the wider galaxy. Then Hulk can come back to Earth as the villain in A4 or A5.

I've come around to thinking Hulk is best in team/ensemble movie settings (and this is coming from a guy who enjoyed Norton's The Incredible Hulk). Still, Planet Hulk and World War Hulk are worth adapting.

Actually, I'm pretty sure Namor is the one and only superhero Universal Studios has the rights to. (I'm sure there's an interesting contractual history behind that one!).

But I'm also on board the "we haven't seen the real Mandarin yet" train. And I think they can make his character interesting and not offensive.

I think the real Mandarin will pop up eventually. Like someone said in the 1 shot the real Mandarin sends his fake reporter the get the fake Mandarin side of the story.(or to see how much the fake Mandarin knows) The black guy protecting fake Mandarin they say is young Luke Cage, and this is what causes Luke cage to be Power Man.(when he gets stabbed or shot I forget what weapon the reporter uses, but anyway) this is what a guy on YouTube told me so if that isn't how it goes please let me know if I am wrong. I thought a lot of important stuff happened in that One Shot. It would be dumb not to use any of it.

You could for sure do something interesting with the "real Mandarin" idea (a different kind of villain would be nice for Tony, now that you mention it). And I think if they get around to it, it'll be made all the more interesting by having already done the Trevor bit. It's just not something that I'm looking for.

Truth be told, I wouldn't be heart-broken if we never saw an Iron Man 4 (though RDJ's been talking the possibility up lately) and Marvel continued to develop their other characters. Even without a new Iron Man movie, Tony's still going to be in at least four upcoming Marvel movies (Avengers 2-4 and Cap 3), so it's not like they've retired the character.

And ha, I forgot about Namor being Universal! I think Marvel's actually said he's technically on the table for them to use, but they would have to pay Universal if they did. Hopefully they'll do something with him eventually.

Something I've wondered about is where the Avengers franchise is going after Infinity War. Not like they can escalate further; maybe we'll get a Masters of Evil story? They probably will have built up enough small-time villains to do that by then.

But I'm probably thinking too far ahead; we've still got another four and a half years before the current slate of movies wraps up!

That would be awesome - I did like Trevor, but this makes it even cooler.

I would love to see them do Mandarin right. For me he is such a great foe for Iron Man, someone who is truly evil and wants to watch the world burn and be remade in his image.

Honestly, at this point, I sort of think we're not seeing an Iron Man 4. It's not in the cards before 2020 and I doubt RDJ is going to want to sign on for another X movies after Avengers 3.

Yeah, I think Civil War Cap 3 is more or less going to be Iron Man 4.

That said, I think RDJ could do this for about as long as he wants. The suit does all the action scenes.

As for where they could go after the Infinity War story line, Kang the Conquer would make a great Avenger movie villain or perhaps when Fan4 flops Fox will abandon their plans for Fan4 2 and just focus in on their Mutant properties, letting the Fan4 right revert back to Marvel. Marvel could then bring Glactus into the MCU. Have him first show up in a GotG or Inhumans movie before coming to Earth and facing the Avengers.
