Re: Ogre Pulverizer Pre-Release Discussion Thread
I think this guys is highly draftable in scenarios. If you use him in things like River of Blood in the right room on the Utgar teams hes perfect for the short maps when you need to run in a tie up enemy units while poundin out those low defense squaddies.
It really an extra advantage for new players to have something that resembles older hard to find figures like Krug without having to pay through the nose. At the same time I don't think he fills quite the same niche as the 120pts heroes that some people are comparing him to. So he does offer something to long term gamers as well. The design team went hardcore theme with all the figures this wave and have done an outstanding job. |

Re: Ogre Pulverizer Pre-Release Discussion Thread
In a draft situation I think I'd grab him as soon as my opponent picked a squad of Greenscale Warriors. Not only is he good against the Greenies, he's a cheap answer to every dragon in some fashion.
Against Othkurik, Mimring and Braxas he does more damage to them than they can do to him. Against Nilfheim and Zelrig I like the ability to defuse their squad-razing specials while doing decent damage. Against Charos he negates the King's counterstrike (by making it irrelevant). ~Aldin, wondering if Dumb and Dumber was the inspiration for the Warhulk and Pulverizer He either fears his fate too much or his desserts are small That dares not put it to the touch to gain or lose it all ~James Graham |

I don't know about this guy. As others have said, he's a 4-die Double Attack, but only in melee; He's uncommon, but Krug's a lot better. Jim mentioned that you can't always afford the 20 extra points for Krug, but if that's the case, then you can't afford more than one Pulverizer either, which nixes the Uncommon benefit. I don't play dungeon crawls, so trying to figure out why I'll draft this guy is proving a little tricky. I really wish he had a Relentless personality. Then I would totally get it. Anyway, I may come around in time. Thanks for the preview, team. Can't wait for D3. ~Spite |

Re: Ogre Pulverizer Pre-Release Discussion Thread
Spite, Dragons and Greenies ARE lower defense figures. It's Death Knights, Dwarves and Deathwalkers that scare the Pulverizer (yeah, Dwarves are only 4s, but they're cheap 4s and I wanted my "D" theme).

Re: Ogre Pulverizer Pre-Release Discussion Thread
One set I will not buy. I may get a single ogre from Auggie's for less than $2 but that is about it. I was really hoping for an uncommon hero less than 100 (60-80 would be best) as incentive to have a "filler hero" that you would want multiple of, but I couldn't see anyone playing more than one of him, even in a casual heroes only campaign game, even against Samurai. However, if I was going to play someone with a viper army (cough... Killercactus...cough), then maybe.

Re: Ogre Pulverizer Pre-Release Discussion Thread
I don't think he'd do all that well even against vipers. He can kill 26.67 points worth of vipers every turn whereas they will, on average, inflict 50 points worth of damage on him per order marker. His best use is against expensive low defense figures.

Re: Ogre Pulverizer Pre-Release Discussion Thread
I like the sculpt, statline and double attack. I think his self-damaging power is a bit much (would have liked him only taking a single wound if a defender rolled any excess skulls instead of one wound per excess skull). I can see him being passed over for other viable options at 100 points. Of course, I'm basing my opinion on him knowing how the dice usually roll for me.

Re: Ogre Pulverizer Pre-Release Discussion Thread
I like this guy a lot. He's not an anti-hero fig; obviously you won't send him after Charos or whatever, but he is a hero counter to commons & uniques with low defense.
I'll put him second only to Eltahale as the unit I'm most looking forward to using so far from D3. |

Re: Ogre Pulverizer Pre-Release Discussion Thread
So the 4 die breakdown is:
1/16 0 skulls 4/16 1 skull 6/16 2 skulls 4/16 3 skulls 1/16 4 skulls That means you have at least 1 skull 94% of the time and at least 2 skulls 56% of the time. On defense, here is the 3 die breakdown: 8/27 0 shields 12/27 1 shield 6/27 2 shields 1/27 3 shields You only get 2+ shields 26% of the time. There's a fair bit of math for the exact numbers, but against a defense of 3, you take a wound about once per five attacks and multiple wounds only very rarely. ~Aldin, who was going to do the math for four shields but ran out of time He either fears his fate too much or his desserts are small That dares not put it to the touch to gain or lose it all ~James Graham |

Re: Ogre Pulverizer Pre-Release Discussion Thread
Love the sculp.
My thoughts on the card echo a lot of what's been said - fun, thematic unit that will be good in dungeon crawls and fairly solid in draft situations. I don't think he's unusable in a tournament or serious games. However, he'd be much better if he had 1-2 more lives or cost maybe 10 or so less points. Or, as suggested, limit the total unblockable hits he can suffer due to his Lumbering Bully to 1 (though that would make the errata with counterstrike much more combersome, I'm sure). Overall, a very good job by the design team. Keep 'em coming! Last edited by jedilou; October 6th, 2010 at 12:23 PM. |
