COMPETITIVE REVIEW BOARD CHECKLIST

Spoiler Alert!

Efficiency- Check to see if your design is providing armies with turns/moves/etc. to a degree that would make it difficult or impossible for an opponent to keep up with your output.

1. Does your design allow itself or figures to move/attack/take a turn/etc. instead of/in addition to your normal turn for revealing an Order Marker? Is it granting these benefits to too broad a range of units? Does it combine with other powers to create overly long or powerful chains of actions? No

2. Does your design allow you to take actions during an opponent's turn? Can it combine with other powers to create tediously long reactions to enemy actions or a restrictive environment? No

3. Does your design allow you to rearrange your Order Markers or otherwise bypass the costs of Order Marker requirements on the special powers of other figures? No

4. Is your design doing anything outside of a player's turn, at the start or end of the round? Is the effect too powerful by itself or when combined with other powers? No

5. Does your design have any powers that trigger anytime it moves as opposed to only when it moves normally on its turn? Will it be too efficient when combined with figures that grant extra moves to figures? No

6. Is your design adding or subtracting from initiative rolls? Will it pair too easily with other figures that alter initiative or have powers triggering on the results of initiative rolls? No


Potency- Check to see if your design is wounding/removing/etc. enemy figures, increasing the chances of other figures in your army doing so, or otherwise directly effecting the number of figures available to players to a degree that would make it difficult or impossible for an opponent to recover from.

1. Does your design have a chance to inflict wounds or destroy figures? Is it getting these chances too frequently or having to high a chance of success? Is the power balanced against expensive targets that can cause a massive swing in the game when destroyed? Yes, no

2. Is your design adding to the stats or 20-sided die rolls of other figures in your army? Is it a boosting a broad enough range of units effectively enough to become a 'mandatory' draft or inhibit future design space? Can it be combined with other boosts too easily? No

3. Will your design benefit from stat boosts or other enhancement to an overpowering degree? Will it restrict future growth within its faction or point cost by limiting available boosts to others? No

4. Does your design take control of enemy figures permanently or temporarily? Is it too difficult to for your opponent to regain control of their figure or recover from the losing the figure? Does the method of taking control expose the enemy figure to the powers of other figures in your army that can easily destroy it? No

5. Can your design heal itself or others or revive itself or others? Is it doing so in a way that an opponent cannot hope to overcome in certain scenarios? No

6. Does your design place enemy figures on its card or otherwise have an unconventional method of temporarily removing enemy figures from play? Will it guarantee your victory against a single remaining enemy figure? No


Chicanery- Check to see if your design is preventing your opponent from taking actions with too much ease or is otherwise causing negative play experience through tactics that make your opponent feel you're 'not playing fair'

1. Does your design restrict the movement of enemy figures, or allow you to move enemy figures? Can it do so in a way that results in an unwinnable scenario for your opponent if they are down to one figure, posses only figures with a range of 1, etc.? Can your design easily combine with other figures to greatly impede enemy figures or otherwise gain an excessive advantage? Yes, No, No

2. Does your design effect/change the placement of an enemy's Order Markers, or remove their Order Markers entirely? Can it force Order Markers to go onto cards that have no figures on the battlefield? Can your design easily combine with other figures to completely dictate the placement of an enemy's Order Markers or remove all of their Order Markers? No

3. Does your design inhibit your opponent from attacking your figures or make attacking a losing proposition? Are there scenarios or combinations that make your opponent totally unable to harm your figures through attacking? No

4. Does your design directly negate the powers of enemy figures or otherwise ignore them in a way that can completely disrupt the opponent's strategy or leave them feeling like they are stuck playing figures without special powers? No

5. Does your design become overly powerful in a podded group of figures, or provide significant benefit to your army without leaving your Start Zone? No

6. You can attack your own figures in Heroscape, does your design have any powers that will trigger off of doing so or otherwise wounding/destroying your own figures? Is this intentional on your part? Will the design be too efficient or potent when doing so? No

Consistency Concerns
Name and Identity
Verify character is named in a way that is clear, accurate and feels consistent with the way other characters are named. Check

Uniqueness and Type
Verify that the power text reflects the listed uniqueness and type, that the uniqueness fits the character, and that squad size is listed for squads. Check

Left Box
If the character's species, class or personality is reused, verify that the character feels thematically consistent with other figures that have that species, class or personality. If they are not reused, verify that there is no pre-existing species, class or personality that would make more sense. Check

Size and Height
Verify that the listed size and height are accurate. Standing the mini up next to a stack of tiles, and a few other minis of various sizes, is encouraged. Will have Archie double check

Super Strength and Flying
Verify that these special powers are present if they make sense, and not if they don't. Check

New Powers - Names
Verify that any new powers are not using power names identical to, or very similar to, pre-existing powers. Verify that any new powers are actually new and not old powers with new names. Check

New Powers - Effects
Verify that the effect and timing of all new powers is clear. Verify that any logical immunities, benefits, or weaknesses (whether those be necessary for thematic or mechanical reasons) are implemented: consider whether defensive powers that work against normal attacks should also work against special attacks, whether or not a power has an elemental component that some figures should resist, and whether or not unliving figures (such as Undead and Androids) should be affected. Reused Powers
Verify that the design is reusing powers in place of creating new ones, where reused powers could implement the same theme and mechanics with no differences or only trivial differences. Verify that any reused powers have the correct text. Check

NAME OF THE TEST UNIT Trunks (Future)

Army Test
- Does it pass, Yes or No? Yes
- What should be the unit's point value? 230-260?
- Give a brief overview. This was a rough match for the Avengers as a lot of their normal tricks were shut down by reselience but they almost took it in the end bringing Poison down to just 1 life against a 2 life Nebula but the luck was with Poison and he hit both Stinger rolls!
Map: Ravaged Road
Units: Trunks, Cap I, Winter Soldier (Team-Up), Nebula, Venom II (1,200) vs Super Buu, Poison (1,200)

Cap makes Venom, Trunks, Nebula, and Winter Soldier Avengers. Winter Soldier teams up with Cap.
R1
Avengers have intitiative. In T1 Cap moves up dropping a tree with his shield and Bucky movies up gunning down another; Buu flies out putting a wound on the Great Evergreen from height. In T2 Nebula moves up to better positioning; Buu flies over taking height and giving Cap 3 wounds Bucky has his Six but Buu shrugs it off. In T3 Venom moves up and Clambers up next to Buu and smacks him for 5 wounds; Buu smacks Venom for 3 wounds in return.

Avengers have initiative. In T1 Cap tries striking Buu but he shrugs it off and Bucky moves around behind Buu hitting him with the Left Paw for 3 wounds; Buu hits Cap for a wound. In T2 Venom tries to strike Buu but he shrugs it off so Nebula steps in moving in to engage on low ground and Vengeful Strikes (14) but Buu Shrugs it off Then she tries to strike him but he effortlessly blocks and moves her into the water; Buu Absorbs Cap. In T3 Trunks hits Buu with a Rapid Sword Stream but he Shrugs it off and then uses his Shining Sword attack to get in a strike which is Blocked an then a Burning Attack which is shrugged off but Knocks Buu into the water and Buu pulls Trunks with him and Nebula takes height hitting Buu with a VS (14) but he shrugs it off and then strikes from height but is blocked and Boo Moves her into the water; Buu hits Nebula for 2 wounds.

Team Buu has initiative. In T1 Buu hits Trunks for 2 wounds; Bucky moves to height on Buu giving him 2 wounds. In T2 Buu hits Trunks for 2 wounds; Trunks misses Buu with his Rapid Sword Stream and then Strikes with his Shining Sword attack twice letting Buu pull Venom and Trunk both into the water and then unleashes a Burning Attack the Buu Shrugs off but it moved 2 spaces and then pulls Trunks with him and Nebula takes height but can't wound Buu who pulls himself to height on Trunks next to Nebula. In T3 Buu Absorbs Trunks ("Things aren't looking good for our heroes"); Venom moves in the water and Clambers up behind Buu giving him 2 wounds.

Avengers have initiative. In T1 Bucky moves up jumping into the water and finishing off Buu with his South Paw from low ground; OM on Buu. In T2 Venom Clambers across the water and runs onto the Road; OM on Buu. In T3 Bucky climbs out of the water and heads for the road; OM on Buu.

Avengers have initiative. In T1 Nebula splashes into the water; Poison swings to height. In T2 Bucky moves up missing Poison and Nebula moves up onto the road; Poison finishes off the Great Evergreen and it falls taking out the last remaining tree. In T3 Venom runs down the road and Clambers in front of Poison hitting him for 2 wounds; Poison hits Venom for 3 wounds.

Team Buu has initiative. In T1 Poison finishes off Venom but Bucky has his Six giving him a wound; OM on Venom. In T2 Poison hits Bukcy for 2 wounds; Bucky moves up to even height and shoots Poison for a wound. In T3 Posion Swings over and hits Bucky with his Poison Stingers for a wound; Bucky swings at Poison who takes it on the chin (1 wound) using his Poison Stingers to finish off Bucky; OM on Bucky.

Team Buu has initiative. In T1 Poison swings up hitting Nebula from ranged height for 2 wounds; Nebula engages Poison and VS (15+4) him for wounds an then he shrugs off her attack. In T2 Poison finishes off Nebula with his Stingers (10, 14) for the win!
Who won and how many wounds did they have? Team Buu won with Poison bearing 7/8 wounds.

- Give a brief overview. This was a much better showcase of what Trunks is capable of. This was a pretty brutal slaughter but it does seems like an ideal matchup for Trunks so I'm not too worried just yet.
Map: Island Plane Crash
Units: Trunks, Vegeta (Base), Krillin, Gohan (Kid), Goku (SS) (1,100) vs Frieza, 4xArthrian Invaders (1,100)

Frieza is the Conqueror.
R1
Invaders have initiative. In T1 6 Invaders move up and Frieza flies up; Gohan and Krillin fly up. In T2 6 Invaders advance and Frieza engages Gohan giving him 3 wounds; Trunks flies up taking out an Invader with his Shining Sword Attack and then blasting another from height with his Burning Attack (2 skulls 0 wounds) and Krillin gives Frieza 2 wounds with his Destructo Discs!. In T2 A squad of Invaders move in giving Krillin a wound and Frieza finishes of Gohan. In T3 Trunks targets 2 Invaders and Frieza with his Rapid Sword Stream taking out both Invaders and appearing beside Frieza (skull, skull, shield) and then takes out another Invader and uses his Burning Attack to knock Frieza lower (1 skull blocked) and Krillin finishes off the other nearby invader. Vegeta goes SS.

Challengers have initiative. In T1 Trunks uses his Rapid Sword Stream to take out an Invader and wound Frieza and then uses his Shining Sword Attack twice letting Frieza move and then hits him with a Burning Attack (3 skulls, 1 wound) knocking him to low ground and Krillin hits him with a Destructo Disc for a wound; an Invader comes back and Frieza engages and hits Trunks for 3 wounds. In T2 Trunks slices at Frieza with a Shining Sword attack and misses before following up with a Burning Attack (3 skulls, whiff) to finish him off; OM on Fireza. In T3 Vegeta SS moves up and Krillin moves up; OM on Frieza.

Invaders have initiative. In T1 a squad of Invaders close in with one engaging Krillin; Vegeta SS flies in and takes out an Invader (5/7 skulls vs 4/4 shields!) and Krillin uses his Destructo Discs to take out the other. In T2 the Invader holds its ground knowing the end is nigh; Vegeta SS flies in finishing off the last invader with a Final Flash for the win.
Who won and how many wounds did they have? Challengers won with Trunks bearing 3/5 wounds, Krillin bearing 1/4 wounds, and Vegeta SS and Vegeta unwounded.

- Give a brief overview. This felt really solid. Trunks' team lost but he brought a lot to the table and enough that I think he needs a slight bump in points.

Team Trunks has initiaitive. In T1 Piccolo charges up flies up and charges up as Gamora advances; Broly advances. In T2 Piccolo charges up flying onto the bridge and hits Broly with a Special Beam Cannon (3 skulls) adnd it drops a wound on him; Broly moves Piccolo with the Lariat for a wound and Broly hits him for a wound. In T3 Piccolo hits Broly for a wound; Broly flies forward with Piccollo but can't wound him even from height. Piccolo Regenerates a wound.
R1
Broly has initiative. In T1 Broly moves Piccolo for a wound and hits Gamora with the Eraser Canno dropping the Palm on Piccolo finishing him off and taking out a Bush and giving a Great Evergreen a wound and Gamora 3 wounds and she engages Broly; OM on Piccolo. In T2 Broly wipes Gamora off the map; Trunks moves up. In T3 Broly flies up; Trunks hits a Bush, Tree , and Broly with Rapid Sword Stream taking out a Bush and appearing near the tree and then slioces the tree down with Shining Sword attack on Broly giving him a wound and then hits Broly with Burning Attack for a wound and knocking him 2 spaces away for a wound.

In T1 Trunks hits Broly, a Tree, and Bush with his Rapid Sword Stream dropping a Palm on Broly and himself and slices Broly for a wound with his Shining Sword attack an then moves him 1 space with a Burning Attack; Broly moves Trunks with the Lariat and then Broly finishes him off for the win.
Who won and how many wounds did they have? Broly wins with 8/12 wounds

THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY: Trunks seems solid and is most definitely fun to play but I think he could use a slight bump in cost for all of the tricks he has going on.

GENERAL THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT: He is a bit of a glass cannon but he has a strong affect on the flow of the battle which is really neat. Definitely someone you want to focus on or he will mess up your plans and battle strategy which is super cool and evocative of the character.
