This actually sounds like a good idea for them to do. It wouldn't require any extra molds, and it gives people an incentive to back this who already have old terrain.


I think they could go even further and include dirt terrain, which would be the same light brown plastic color that is used for the grass, rock, and sand terrain, but it would have a darker brown paint to the tops of the hexes

At this point they have nothing to lose from making a change like that by including new terrain types for 24 hex. I don't think anyone would care if they replaced the two rock 24 hex pieces with sand, lava, dirt etc. It would probably only help their numbers

Old players would like the novelty, and new players wouldn't care because everything is new to them

Does anyone know how exclusive arrangements for some of the old sets works/worked? Would Hasbro/Avalon Hill be able to print lava terrain without including Toys R Us? Does their bankruptcy affect it or did it just go to whoever bought the name rights or something?

I know they reused sculpts in the past with different paint jobs and I guess these would be new molds. Not sure if that’s enough.

The lava terrain used the same molds as other terrain, just with different colors. I would hope lava isn't bizarrely off the table when they prominently included lava in the teaser video for the "comeback" here.
