What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?

Played 2 games of Flick 'em Up tonight, first one was the first basic scenario and we had 10 people playing. Lawmen won. Second game was a 6 player game for scenario 2, where they expand the rules to allow cowboys to enter buildings and have duels. The goal of this scenario was for either the lawmen to kill the outlaw leader, Big Daddy Cooper, or for the outlaws to kill the sheriff. If they were still alive after 6 rounds, then they have a final showdown and a duel. After each missed a couple shots, Big Daddy Cooper took out the sheriff for the outlaw victory.

Also played 4 games of Codenames - sadly my team lost 3 games to 1, but there was certainly some luck involved in one of their wins. Fun game for sure.

Had a great weekend last week. My son turned 9 and asked for only games for his birthday. (Don't worry we did give him a few others things.)

Castle Ravenloft and the Hobbit deck-building game. We got our butts kicked in Ravenloft (way too many powerful undead). I won The Hobbit by 2 points. It's one of the best deck-building games I've played.

The Source was our second to last mission.

It was a very close game and came down to my last attack dealing exactly enough damage to win the mission. This made it so the heroes had to go to the harder final battle.

I really enjoyed the campaign and would enjoy playing another one, but am also looking forward to the Twin Shadows campaign.

I did get a bit more work done on my Garden of Morr and have started on some repaints of the Evolution wood pieces. Hopefully I will have more to show on that next week.

Also played some Secret Wars this week. Lost bad to Nimrod, but beat Wasteland Hulk.

Tried Gauntlet of Fools as well.

Played some games of Ashes.

Also, got a couple Dicemasters games in.

What kind of game is Secret Wars? And is it based on the Marvel comic?

We have been playing a Sails of Glory scenario at work with Stephen Universe's French trying to escort their massive Imperial out to sea on its maiden voyage only to be met by my English led by the Queen Elizabeth.



Also, taught CatScaper Patchwork last night. Pretty fun 2-player game where you buy patches of fabric to put together a quilt. Buttons are the currency and bigger patches cost more time "sew" into your quilt on the game track. Might be a good choice for gamers wives that usually don't game.

That Sails of Glory setup is gorgeous, G-O. I've had that game on my list for a long time, but nobody would play it with me. So on my list it will stay.

We should get together and play it soon. It is funny how tense it gets while only creeping around the map. The wind direction and speed being able to change mid game really adds to the tension, since you have to preplan moves.

I lulled the French to sleep with my "seemingly" poor navigation only to close in and take out 2 masts on the Imperial with my smallest ship the HMS Terpsichore. We called it a British victory since my objective was to stop the Imperial from leaving port.

I have the base set of Sails of Glory still in the shrink. I actually won it in a raffle last year where proceeds went to children's hospitals.

One of my good gaming buddies went in at Captain level or something during the kickstarter for the game and got a boatload of stuff.

I've played with his game since he had it before I got mine, and have played 2 player, 3 player, 4 player and 8 player. Only a couple times did we play with the advanced rules, as we ended up teaching it to others on a couple occasions (I got to help since I had played it a few times previously), so we went with the basic rules. Even then, it's a blast. Have the battle is learning to plan the maneuvering and then timing your shots for best chance of damage and getting time to reload. The wind changing mechanic is great, as some game there isn't much variance, while other times there is a lot of variance.

Haven't played it in awhile, so I'll have to bug my buddy to refresh himself on the rules so we can play again.

I've been waivering as whether or not to keep my base set of it or sell/trade it while it's still in the shrink. Part of me wants to keep it, but realistically, I'd most likely be able to play with my buddy Brian's set whenever. Then there's the aspect of wanting to buy more ships at $12-$16 each or so. Still something to ponder
