Efficiency- Check to see if your design is providing armies with turns/moves/etc. to a degree that would make it difficult or impossible for an opponent to keep up with your output.

1. Does your design allow itself or figures to move/attack/take a turn/etc. instead of/in addition to your normal turn for revealing an Order Marker? Is it granting these benefits to too broad a range of units? Does it combine with other powers to create overly long or powerful chains of actions?
No. It gives initiative based free movement, which is class restricted and will be one emphasis of testing.

Yes and No, mostly because without Joker we don’t have any problematic figures like that anymore that I know of – and also it’s a max of +4.

Potency- Check to see if your design is wounding/removing/etc. enemy figures, increasing the chances of other figures in your army doing so, or otherwise directly effecting the number of figures available to players to a degree that would make it difficult or impossible for an opponent to recover from.

1. Does your design have a chance to inflict wounds or destroy figures? Is it getting these chances too frequently or having to high a chance of success? Is the power balanced against expensive targets that can cause a massive swing in the game when destroyed?
Yes and No, though it’ll be another emphasis of testing.
2. Is your design adding to the stats or 20-sided die rolls of other figures in your army? Is it a boosting a broad enough range of units effectively enough to become a 'mandatory' draft or inhibit future design space? Can it be combined with other boosts too easily?

3. Will your design benefit from stat boosts or other enhancement to an overpowering degree? Will it restrict future growth within its faction or point cost by limiting available boosts to others?
Something to test. Deadly Strike always loves a boost and Batman is one built into the faction. Lack of range helps.
4. Does your design take control of enemy figures permanently or temporarily? Is it too difficult to for your opponent to regain control of their figure or recover from the losing the figure? Does the method of taking control expose the enemy figure to the powers of other figures in your army that can easily destroy it?

Art of War is fairly passive, though to get the unblockables she needs to be in the mix. The class restriction on the movement should help a lot.
6. You can attack your own figures in Heroscape, does your design have any powers that will trigger off of doing so or otherwise wounding/destroying your own figures? Is this intentional on your part? Will the design be too efficient or potent when doing so?

Cool concept! Iaijutsu Strike is very similar to Shi's Swift Strike, a bit better though I. Art of War would be cool as reusable, but yeah if not restricted to Interlopers, she'll be a great generalist figure, especially with Deadly Strike.

My only other thought which was already stated was a range restriction for the initiative boost. It's pretty easy to have clear sight on opponent's figures all the way across the map in many cases.

Yeah, that's one I'm going to keep in my back pocket if she's coming in too strong. Getting her at 150 exactly is a top priority for army building.

Unit Summary: OK, pretty strong showing here. I’m not sure how much of that is dice, map-friendliness, and match up, but they ran off a pretty solid JL team, so I’m thinking Katana will need some toning down to keep her price in check. Super fun Outsiders army, though, so I really want to keep her at this price!

Round 1: Initiative Rogues. Blacksmith has Mirror Master teleport up Top and Weather Wizard, then she follows.
Batman has Black Lightning advance and he fails a special attack on Weather Wizard. Batman has Katana advance.
The Top fails to hit Katana or Black Lightning with an Explosive Top. Blacksmith shoots Katana for two wounds.
Batman uses Mission Prep and has Katana engages Blacksmith and her attack is blocked. Mirror Master Rogue Retreats back to Captain Cold and Girder. Metamorpho flies forward and attacks Blacksmith from range and height and is blocked.
Mirror Master teleports Girder next to Metamorpho and Captain Cold next to himself. Blacksmith hits Katana for another wound from height and range.
Batman has Geo-Force advance. He throws down rock and hits Captain Cold and Girder for wounds, but misses Mirror Master and hits Metamorpho as well. Round 2: Initiative Outsiders, after Katana forces a reroll. Katana moves Geo-Force onto the rock space he laid last turn, then moves Black Lightning and Metamorpho adjacent to The Top, whom she’s also engaged with. She fails the unblockable on The Top. Batman uses Mission Prep and has Katana attack Blacksmith, and she inflicts one wound from height disadvantage. Metamorpho bulks up with all his markers and he hits The Top for one wound (Rogues are rolling defense like champs).
Blacksmith has Plunder leap to height and attack twice. He takes out Katana, then fails an attack on Black Lightning. Blacksmith fails a ranged attack on Black Lightning.
Geo-Force tries to rally the troops. He throws down some lava field that misses Mirror Master, but hits Girder for a wound. He attacks Mirror Master, who blocks, then Rogue Retreats along with Girder up into Batman’s face. Metamorpho fails an attack on Blacksmith from height disadvantage, despite being fully solid still. Batman Bat-Grapples to height and hits Mirror Master for two wounds with his Bat Shuriken.
Girder punches Batman for a wound on a reroll and Blacksmith avoids a swipe from Metamorpho and shoots Black Lightning for a wound.

Black Lightning attacks Girder three times with his special attack and gets the KO on his third try. Metamorpho punches out Mirror Master to finish it.

Unit Summary: Katana’s ability to draw fire here really helped the faction and powered them to the win despite her not doing much else.

If you win initiative, you may immediately move up to 3 Interlopers you control up to 3 spaces each, ignoring leaving engagement attacks. After moving figures this way, you may choose one figure engaged with both Katana and another Interloper you control and roll one unblockable attack die against the chosen figure.

When attacking with Katana, each skull rolled counts as an additional hit.

IAIJUTSU STRIKE 14
When an opponent's figure engaged with Katana targets a figure for an attack, you may roll the 20-sided die. Subtract 3 from your roll if the targeting figure has the Master Martial Artist or Swordplay special power. If you roll 14 or higher, the opponent's figure receives 1 wound and its turn immediately ends.

Round 1: Initiative Justice League. Green Arrow advances.
Batman has Katana and Black Lightning advance.
Black Canary advances.
Batman has Halo and Geo-Force advance.
Green Arrow advances and is just out of range.
Batman has Katana advance and he advances himself.

Round 2: Wonder Woman sheds a JL Marker. Initiative Outsiders. Katana moves herself, Halo, and Black Lightning up three spaces each. Batman has Katana engage Green Arrow and Black Canary and attack Canary for one wound while following the Mission Prep. Black Lightning advances but isn’t in range.
Black Canary has Hawkwoman swoop in and hit Katana for a wound, recharging Wonder Woman. Green Arrow sheds a marker and rolls all skulls and KO’s Katana.
Geo-Force tries to Rally the troop and advances. Halo advances and uses the Indigo Marker to move Green Arrow down from height and hits him for one wound. Black Lightning follows up by lashing Green Arrow for another wound.
Hawkwoman flies forward and smacks Halo for two wounds, recharging Green Arrow, who uses that marker to go. He KO’s Halo in three attacks.
Geo-Force flies forward, lays down a lava field tile which fails to hit Green Arrow, then blasts him for a five skull attack, but only causes one wound. Black Lightning rolls all skulls on his special attack and hits Hawkwoman for four wounds. Black Canary Cries for Justice and hits Black Lightning for a wound. Batman advances and throws three Shurikens at Hawkwoman. Not only do none of them land, she defends the last one so well that she risks the leaving engagement swipe from Black Lightning (it misses) and puts four counter strike wounds on Batman to finish him (big swing there!).
Hawkwoman can’t hit Geo-Force from height. Green Arrow sheds a JL Marker and attacks Geo-Force three times before killing him.

Round 3: Wonder Woman sheds a JL Marker. Initiative Black Lightning. He engages Black Canary and Green Arrow, but has no dice luck and can’t hit Canary with two lashes.
Black Canary sheds a JL Marker to go Into the Fray and puts one wound on Black Lightning. Green Arrow takes height and finishes him.

Unit Summary: I wanted to do a rematch of the first game to see how her points were falling and whether I felt close. A bigger map, a better understanding of the match up, and some better dice luck for the Justice League sent this the other way in a route.

Hmm, OK, with all the extra Art of War movement, I'm thinking I can tone her down to 5 Move, make the Art of War movement 3 figures for 3 spaces (and +3 initiative max), and make her Iaijutsu Strike 16+ and see how that feels.

I'm also changing the subtraction on the strike to subtract 3 against Master Martial Arts figures since the overall roll is going up and to keep the 3 number consistent.
