Both teams fought near Stargirl's base, by the road. Stargirl's team had height, so it was an uphill battle for Luke Cage and Iron Fist who were surrounded. They managed to do well, causing a couple wounds here and there, but Iron Fist was killed quickly. Wolverine came in, and they started to mount some offense, killing Flash, Hourman, and then Liberty Belle. The JSA were struggling at this point. Stargirl has lowered Wolverine's and Luke Cage's stats each once by this point. Green Lantern and Stargirl managed to take out Luke Cage, but Wolverine bested the both of them just barely, almost dying himself.

Human Torch rushed the base of the JSA, but the JSA managed to move out by that point. He engaged Hourman and Liberty Belle, but they put the hurt on him early, putting him in a bad place. He countered back with a Supernova, but it didn't do much more than a couple wounds. Stargirl moves in with Green Lantern, and they got the jump on Invisible Woman. Unfortunately, Thing joined the party and hurt Green Lantern pretty good. Stargirl managed to block an attack for him, but he just kept getting hit and is taken out after causing a couple wounds on Invisible Woman. Stargirl tries finishing the job, but can't get it done. She is then killed as well. Hourman and Liberty Belle are killed by Thing. Flash tries finishing Invisible Woman to stand a chance but doesn't, and then Thing one shots him.

THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY: Overall, she played a decent role in ignoring a couple big attacks each game, protecting her team. She also used the markers a few times each game, though they didn't prove that useful. They prevented just enough movement, or lessening attack, but nothing major, a nice little bonus though. She also really shines as a movement unit, with a really good carry power that allows you to keep people in place. I'd say she played around 110-120 in my games. She's certainly fun, and fits in with the synergy well. Another piece of the puzzle. Certainly draftable.

I placed only one glyph on one side of the map to give these armies a reason to move toward each other. The glyph ended up not coming into play though. At the start of the second round, with both armies getting their pods together, Flash saw an opportunity to mess with the Titans’ OMs. He took it and moved a numbered OM from Nightwing to Beast Boy, disrupting Titans Go for that round. However, being separated from his team left Flash vulnerable, and he took a three-wound hit from Starfire during the round, before Stargirl moved in to protect him.

Winning Initiative in the second round, Flash tried this strategy again. This time he moved the 2 OM, but Nightwing still had the 1 and X. However, Stargirl pulled Flash back toward the rest of the JSA after he finished his turn. The teams continued taking pot shots at each other until the third round, when Liberty Belle and Hourman moved in. They drew most of the fire from there, and hit back hard.

The duo took down Superboy quickly, while the Titans struggled to hit them for the first round, though they took out Flash. In the fourth round, Liberty Belle finally went down, though she and Hourman took down Beast Boy and put a few wounds on Starfire. GL moved in at the end of the round and hit Starfire again, bringing her to 4 wounds. One more wound to finish her off would have made a big difference, and instead, Starfire did a bunch of damage in the fifth round.

Everything fell apart for the JSA in the fifth round. They lost Initiative, Nightwing used Starfire and Raven to finish off GL and Hourman, while Nightwing finished Stargirl. There were some real bad rolls in this round and the JSA were wiped out quickly.

Overall, Stargirl never got an OM, but she moved Flash around quite a bit, and her protective ability kept her team around longer.

Courtney certainly did her share here, but her team couldn't quite pull this one off. They grabbed an early lead, but couldn't crack Superboy.

In the first round, the JSA used Stargirl and Flash to get all of their figures up and podded in two OMs. After Lightning Lad sent a couple bolts their way, Liberty Belle and Hourman moved in and hit Lightning Lad for two wounds and then finished him off.

With Initiative in the second round Stargirl moved near Liberty Belle and Hourman, hit Cosmic Boy for three wounds, and placed a Star marker on Karate Kid. With another failed Magnetic Throw Defense roll the next turn, LB&H hit Karate Kid for two wounds. By the end of the round, Karate Kid was dead, but LB&H were both near death. They would both die shortly later. Stargirl and Alan were next, though they did take down Cosmic Boy first. Superboy was too much for them though, and none of them got through his defense.

Stargirl played a pretty big part in this game. For one, she carried Ms Marvel around on six different turns, which gave the whole army a lot more mobility and Ms Marvel a bunch more attacks than she would have had. Stargirl also used her Force Field three times, which not only kept her and her allies alive longer, but potentially twice prevented Iron Patriot from dealing a wound and using Master Motivator. A very good showing.

Iron Patriot's team won Initiative in all four rounds, which gave them a lot of mobility and also meant that their OMs were never disrupted. The first round was spent positioning. In the second and third rounds, the Avengers focused on Valkyrie while the Dark Avengers focused on Bizarro. Stargirl used her markers to weaken Iron Patriot and Valkyrie while Ms Marvel attacked them. Bizarro was the first to die, taking some from constant attacks and then being KOed by leaving engagements forced by Villainous Dirty. Valkyrie was shortly after, with Stargirl moving Ms Marvel up to the high ground next to Valkyrie and Iron Patriot.

Patriot fell at the beginning of the fourth round. He got a couple shots off first, but low skulls on the first one and a block from Stargirl on the second one prevented him from doing anything. Ms Marvel finished him off while Stargirl put a marker on Fantomex. With his attacks subtracted, Fantomex tried to stay out of Ms Marvel’s range, but Stargirl kept moving her up while taking shots at Fantomex. He got his first two Misdirection rolls, but then missed a couple against Stargirl and died.

THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY: For the first two games, I took her faction up against similar factions. They didn’t fare very well, but I think it has more to do with the current JSA teams than Stargirl herself. There are still some pieces missing from the JSA and they’ll do better at a higher cost anyway. Stargirl did fine, even did a fair amount of damage, thanks to some lucky hits. 120 seemed fine here, though after I used her with Kal-L, I wonder if her cost shouldn’t come up some. Another small tweak if needed could be lowering her Move by one.

GENERAL THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT: Nice design, feels like Stargirl from the comics. Tags along with the older generation, but still packs a decent amount of power on her own. I like it.

I really like how she plays. I think she's useful enough and flexible enough that she could go to 130-140 without it affecting her draftability at all. She's definitely pod friendly (it'd be interesting to run her, Angel, and Robot together to see what type of massive moving you could do for a group).

Cosmic Rod Passenger: Used to carry Liberty Belle to the top of the platform in Round One. Mister Fantastic locking her down early really limited the utility of this power. I’m hoping to see it shine more in the second game.
Protective Force Field X: Stopped a one skull attack from Mister Fantastic in Round One and a two skull attack from Mister Fantastic in Round Two.

Summary of the game

ROUND ONE: Fan Four get initiative and Fantastic Leader 4 hits a 20 out of the gate. Thing climbs to the base of the ladder to the platform and the other three go right to the top. Stargirl leads off for her team, carrying Liberty Belle to the top of her platform. Mister Fantastic nails a second 20 and they all advance towards the enemy platform, with Human Torch engaging Liberty Belle, but failing to wound her (with only 1 skull rolled, Protective Force Field X wasn’t worth it). Green Lantern flies next to Liberty Belle and Stargirl and sheds his Boxing Glove, but only produces 2 skulls on an 8 dice attack against Human Torch. Human Torch rolls 2 shields on 8 dice to block. Fantastic Leader 4 hits only a 9 this time, and Human Torch Flames On against Liberty Belle, giving her a wound and taking a wound from the swipe, then rolls 2 skulls against Stargirl, who whiffs on defense. Mister Fantastic walks up to the top of the platform and has his one skull attack ended by Stargirl’s Protective Force Field X. Green Lantern, amped up by Liberty Belle, puts one wound on Mister Fantastic.

ROUND TWO: Green Lantern gets initiative and uses his normal attack enhanced by Liberty Belle to put a second wound on Mister Fantastic. Human Torch takes a swipe from Liberty Belle (Stargirl misses) and puts wounds on Liberty Belle and Stargirl. Then he uses his normal attack on Stargirl, but she blocks. Mister Fantastic engages both Stargirl and Liberty Belle and attacks Stargirl. She uses her Protective Force Field X to block his 2 skull attack. Stargirl can’t make Human Torch pay for leaving the aura of Invisible Woman’s Force Field, but she does put a Star Marker on Mister Fantastic. Mister Fantastic rolls a 1, spoiling his plans to move Invisible Woman up onto the platform, and Stargirl just blocks his 2 skull attack (on 3 dice). Green Lantern hits an unprotected Human Torch for 2 wounds, taking him down to 1 Life. Mister Fantastic hits a 13, moving Invisible Woman up (she KOs Stargirl), then Human Torch, who is killed by Green Lantern’s swipe before he can Flame On 4 again. Mister Fantastic is blocked by Liberty Belle’s defense.

ROUND THREE: Hourman places his Miraclo Markers, but uses the “X” to hold off the injection. Mister Fantastic goes first, getting an 8 for Fantastic Leader 4, moving Thing halfway up the ladder, then engaging Green Lantern and failing to wound Liberty Belle. Mister Fantastic defends terribly, and Liberty Belle cracks his skull for two quick wounds. Hourman moves to the base of the ladder. Fantastic Leader 4 is a 7, which is enough to get Thing to the platform with a fully enhanced Clobberin’ Time to unleash on Liberty Belle. Enhanced Durability helps, but attacks of 7 and 6 skulls are too much. JSA loses OM2. Mister Fantastic hits Green Lantern for a quick wound. Fantastic Leader 4 hits a 5 and Thing moves to unleash Clobberin’ Time on Green Lantern. Green Lantern takes one wound from a 4 skull attack, then sheds his Shield Marker to get 5 shields on 7 dice and only take one wound from a 6 skull attack. Flash ends the round by running up the platform to get Green Lantern and company within his aura.

ROUND FOUR: Hourman injects his first Miraclo Marker. Mister Fantastic leads off, hitting a 20 for Fantastic Leader 4. Invisible Woman moves to the highest point on the platform and rolls all skulls, taking out Green Lantern (and JSA’s OM1). Thing rolls miserably for Clobberin’ Time (2 skulls on 10 dice, then 1 skull on 10 dice) and fails to wound Flash. Mister Fantastic brings up the rear and due to the narrowness of the platform where Flash is at, can’t reach the Speedster. Due to Mister Fantastic’s placement, Flash can’t swap Thing and Invisible Woman with Disorienting Speedster, so he tries to attack Thing and ends up taking a wound from Rock Wall Defense. Then he uses Super Speed to back off to the top of the ladder. Mister Fantastic gets a 5 for Fantastic Leader 4 and one Clobberin’ Time punch (5 skulls) is enough to finish Flash. Mister Fantastic goes to the top of the ladder and attacks Hourman from height, but Hourman rolls 3 skulls to block. Hourman sends a prayer up, rolling 3 skulls against Mister Fantastic’s 10 defense, then Mister Fantastic WHIFFS on defense and falls, taking OM3 with him.

ROUND FIVE: Hourman sheds a Miraclo Marker, then leads off, but he takes a wound from Rock Wall Defense, as Invisible Woman backed Thing is blocking his path. Even without wounded allies around to inspire him, Thing gets 4 skulls on his normal attack, and puts one wound on Hourman. Hourman attacks Thing, but Thing is feeling invincible, giving him another wound with Rock Wall Defense. Thing hits Hourman for 2 more wounds and finishes it.

Who won? List figures remaining in the winning army (include life remaining for heroes): Thing and Invisible Woman, both with Full Life, win Turn 4, Round 5.

Summary of the game

ROUND ONE: Cap leads off, getting on the first step of the ladder on his platform. Wrecker uses Crowbar Demolition to move the whole crew 2 spaces forward, which lands Bulldozer and Thunderball on the platform, but ends up with Wrecker, Bulldozer, and Thunderball all getting one wound each. Wrecking Crew 10 hits, though, and Piledriver climbs halfway up the ladder. Wrecking Crew 14 hits and Wrecker moves to the base of the ladder, then Wrecking Crew 10 hits and Piledriver finishes the climb, but Wrecking Crew 14 fails. Ms. Marvel goes next and she uses Stargirl to move Punisher onto the highest point on his platform. Wrecker climbs most of the way up his ladder, then fails Wrecking Crew 10. Ms. Marvel flies adjacent to Stargirl, who has the “X” on her this round. Wrecker climbs to the top of the ladder, but there’s a logjam there. Wrecking Crew 10 fails.

ROUND TWO: Wrecker moves to the highest point on his platform, hits Wrecking Crew 10, sends Piledriver to the end of the platform closest to the enemy, then Wreckingg Crew 14 fails. Cap climbs to the top of the platform, maxing his shield toss range, and flings a shield at Piledriver, Piledriver whiffs on defense and takes a quick 3 wounds. Wrecker jumps off the platform, moving towards Cap and co, hits Wrecking Crew 10, and Piledriver follows him, moving to the base of the enemy ladder. Wrecking Crew 14 fails. Ms. Marvel sends Punisher to the top of the ladder, and Punisher goes crazy with height and Cap and Assault Rifle (6 dice, 5 dice, 4 dice) against Piledriver, but Punisher rolls poorly (1 skull, 2 skulls) until his last attack (4 skulls) which takes Piledriver down to 1 Life. Ms. Marvel can’t see Piledriver to attack him, so she tries and fails to attack Wrecker. Wrecker walks to the base of the other ladder, and throws his crowbar at Stargirl, landing one wound on her with a 2 skull attack. Wrecking Crew 10 hits and Piledriver engages Punisher and attacks him, hitting him for one wound. Then Pounding Fists gets Piledriver a second attack, which causes three more wounds on Punisher. Wrecking Crew 14 misses by one. Ms. Marvel goes next, and Stargirl moves her to the highest point, then attacks Wrecker for 3 wounds (plus one from the Secret Attack Plan). Stargirl then places a Star Marker on Wrecker and Ms. Marvel finishes Wrecker off.

ROUND THREE: Cap starts it off, failing to wound Thunderball with his shield. Piledriver attacks Punisher, but Punisher rolls 4 shields to block. Wrecking Crew 14 fails. Stargirl moves Ms. Marvel to the shadow tiles in between the platforms, fails an attack on Bulldozer (who’s on the platform), then puts a Star Marker on Thunderball, who Ms. Marvel hits for 2 wounds. Piledriver again fails to finish Punisher and fails Wrecking Crew 14. Stargirl flies Ms. Marvel onto the high point of the enemy platform, then fails to wound Bulldozer. Ms. Marvel uses height, Cap’s bonus, and Secret Attack Plan to one-shot Thunderball (who dies with OM3 on him).

ROUND FOUR: Cap goes first, using his Shield Toss to finish Piledriver. Bulldozer rolls a 5 skull attack and wipes out Stargirl. Bulldozer has no targets for Wrecking Crew 14. Ms. Marvel has Punisher move to the bottom of his ladder. Then she follow the Secret Attack Plan and puts 2 wounds on Bulldozer. Bulldozer gets an auto skull for a 4 skull attack, but Ms. Marvel, on height, boosted by Cap, blocks it. Ms. Marvel orders Punisher up. He uses his Armor Piercing Rockets to put 2 more wounds on Bulldozer (who is down to one life now). Ms. Marvel KO’s Bulldozer with her attack. Baron Zemo advances to the ladder.
ROUND FIVE: Zemo goes first, rolling 5 skulls against Ms. Marvel, but she miraculously rolls 5 shields to block. Cap wings his shield at Zemo, landing 2 quick wounds. Zemo hits Ms. Marvel for 2 wounds, but her Best Defense hits him back for his 3rd. Ms. Marvel has her turn cancelled by Adhesive X Trap. Zemo his Ms. Marvel for a third wound (she rolls 5 blanks on her defensive roll to avoid finishing him with Best Defense!). Ms. Marvel has Punisher climb halfway up the ladder, then Armor Piercing Rocket finishes Zemo.

Who won? List figures remaining in the winning army (include life remaining for heroes): Cap with Full Life, Oracle with Full Life, Ms. Marvel with 2 Lives, and Punisher with 1 Life win Turn 6, Round 5.

THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY: I don’t think I used her team as well as I could have in the first game. The Fan Four rolled really well early and moved up faster than I thought, but I still could’ve been more efficient about getting Hourman and Flash into place early and failed to do. I think that game should’ve been closer, but that good rolls by the Fan Four and an ability to control positioning would’ve still put the game in their favor.
In the second test, I used her to her potential. The limited mobility and range of the Wrecking Crew hurt them here, and other than the static +1 to attack, Zemo didn’t really help until endgame. That said, Oracle, Cap, Ms. Marvel, and Punisher are already a dominant combo, especially against an army like the Wrecking Crew on a map with big height changes. Stargirl really helps Ms. Marvel be more efficient and flexible, though, which helped cement the advantage here.


GENERAL THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT: She definitely felt worth her cost in both games and I didn’t feel that I quite used her to her potential in either. I think it’s likely that Power Girl and Hawkman make it easier for her to do so in armies outside of Ms. Marvel, in which case she’d probably still be quite draftable at 130+.

Looks like we should bring her cost back up some. I'm going to go ahead and tell laughing matter and DC4Life to try her at 140.

Yeah, I think at 130/140 she's probably safe. That said, encourage them to use her with Ms. Marvel specifically, as I think that's the combo her costing is going to be based on (especially without Mystery Men available to them).
