If you branch out to the Daredevil and Jessica Jones Netflix shows, I think Kingpin and Purple Man are adapted better than any of the villains in the movies. But generally, I'd say Ultron is one of the better MCU villains, yeah. Though that's really not saying much, since the MCU villains have been pretty weak overall. Besides Loki and Ultron, I really liked Tim Roth as Emil Blonsky/Abomination. Most of the others have been alright, but kind of perfunctory.

I actually share both of these views. I liked his characterization in the movie and how they set him up. I didn't feel like they did enough with him to make him a threat. They made a big point on how he could be multiple places at the same time, but they never actually used that as a threat in the movie. Avengers: EMH did that extremely well.

Yeah. I liked the look of Red Skull, but they didn't do much with him either. I really hope we see him back. Most of Iron Man's villains have just been pale reflections of him. Whiplash was decent, though. I still have hope for Mandarin given the short involving him.

Kingpin and Purple Man were both brilliant.

In a way, Ultron is really "Evil Stark" #5 is the MCU. There's Iron Monger, Whiplash, Hammer, Killian, Ultron... and I guess Tony himself in Civil War will make six. It's definitely a well they draw from too often, and that's excluding the other "evil businessman" types that always pop up.

Purple Man, though... easily the best villain and possibly the best character in the entire MCU. I can't praise him (and Tennant's performance) enough.

I agree Purple Man and Kingpin were both fantastic and stand out above all the other MCU villains other than Loki. To be fair though they have a huge advantage being on TV and having their story arcs play out over a full season. So much more time to delve into who they are as characters as well as explore just what makes them evil. Two to three hour movies just don't have enough time to fully explore the villains when they also need to focus on the heroes and their allies, as well as do some world building.
