Why are Marro Warriors a UNIQUE squad?
I love the water clone ability. I always choose the marro warriors even though my SO always chooses marro stingers for the drain ability.
Nagrubs, stingers, drudge are all COMMON squads and so my SO can play with three sets of them. Why are Warriors UNIQUE? Thanks! |

Re: Why are Marro Warriors a UNIQUE squad?
They are unique because all of the original RotV units were unique. That’s really the long and short of it.
But, be glad they are unique, since being able to ressurect 4+ figures in a turn would be wicked overpowered. Welcome to the site! My customs. NE Ohio Tourney - TBA SW Ohio Tourney - NHSD 550 points AotV - Colliding the minis of AotP with the world of HS. |

Re: Why are Marro Warriors a UNIQUE squad?
They wouldn’t be hard to edit as a common squad. I kind of did it as a custom. But yeah it’s mainly because they couldnt, at the time, reasonably expect people to buy multiple master sets and get useless copies of uniques in order to get at least two common squads. That’s why SOTM has commons - because there’s already two squads of each in the box.

Re: Why are Marro Warriors a UNIQUE squad?
Well that makes sense. I have to convince my SO to house rules then as common now.
Thanks! |

Re: Why are Marro Warriors a UNIQUE squad?
Directly House ruling them as commons is a little tricky. When I made my Marro Stock Clones custom, I simplified the power a bit.

Re: Why are Marro Warriors a UNIQUE squad?
This is a big part of why they are unique. To rein in the power, the power text would have to include a cap on the number of figures drafted, and the cost would have to go up to compensate for having a potentially unkillable squad. No cap and they aren't just overpowered, they are approaching broken. They would be one of the few 4 unit common squads. I think the master set unique packaging might have driven the decision to go unique, but if the cost for them as commons was fair, they might approach undraftable.

Re: Why are Marro Warriors a UNIQUE squad?
I'm 90% sure they'd be the strongest squad in the game if they were common (though common Krav Maga Agents, among others, would be terrifying too).

Re: Why are Marro Warriors a UNIQUE squad?
I came to the party late so didn't catch on that the warriors were a unique squad and we had two squads worth through random eBay purchases. My son loved to play the two squads worth as a common squad and routinely beat me...It wasn't until later we realized they were unique that we understood why they seemed so powerful.
Would I want it to be everything I love...sure...but that's just not realistic so I'm going to focus on finding things that will make me unhappy and work on fixing those. |

Re: Why are Marro Warriors a UNIQUE squad?
Yes these squads could absolutely be common. There appears to be no specific advantages to have mutiple squads of these. Each turn would still be limited to figures used by their respective cards. It would also make the Vikings more appealing. IMO

Re: Why are Marro Warriors a UNIQUE squad?
If it wasn't for stupid Photobucket changing their rules, I would show you multiple cards from my Customs using Master Set Figures (RotV, SotM, BftU) or
@justjohn
's Master Set Unique Squads to Common Squads that are common. I think 1moreheroscaper or justjohn had them as a 70 or 80 point common squad the way they are, or 60 points with only 2 defense and reduced Marro clone but also adding Marro hero bonding
If you changed nothing about the card other than making them common, I think they would be worth 90 points+ because of the Marro Clone ability has "each Marro warrior in play" making it possible to bring back multiple squads worth. If you changed it it common and modified only that quote in the power to "up to four Marro Warriors in play" then I could see the squad being worth 70-80 points to be an "A" level squad on par with 4th Mass/10th/Knights/Heavy Orcs, or make them 85-95 points to have them as a B to B+ squad. Re: Why are Marro Warriors a UNIQUE squad?
In the early days we mistakenly allowed the warriors to be played as common and were beaten by them, soundly! They'd be broken if they were common.
If you wish to house rule them common, then up the points. 73 tournaments. 175 - 145 - 1 overall record. 6 tournament wins. |
