Gencon 2014 Army Discussion Thread

I'm curious how much army commonality there was last year between the online Gencon simulation event and the actual event.

Can anyone who did both comment? Is there a different army construction atmosphere between the two?


The online finalist armies were:

- infectedsloth - Marro Dividers x5, Agent Skahen, Zetacron
- vegies dad - Arrow Gruts x3, Krug, Swog Rider x4, Raelin the Kyrie Warrior [RotV], Marcu Esenwein

The gencon finalists were

The Orange Mailman - 10th x 2, Raelin, Drake V1, Marcus
Mathias Maccabeus - Spidersx4, Estivara, Wyvern x2

Yeah, they're tough against Vipers. But if you win init, you got a decent shot to catch a couple of them.

IMO, the Gencon armies are, as a whole(though last year this may have not been the case, at least for the finalist armies) are a slight bit more "compeitive" in a strictly double-blind sense.

Edit:for example, I was suprised that your army made day 2 in OHS, not because I doubted your ability as a player, but because the two armies I faced at Gencon in RTW portion were a Nilf/Stinger podge, and a Axegrinder/Q9 podge. Needless to say to with the second one I had to make some serious blunders against my army (which I did). But my point still stands.

I agree with AG's assessment. Gencon's RTW has a slightly more competitive metagame slant as compared to the online prep metagame. With the introduction of the 16-figure limit you can't really compare last year to years before it, but on day 1 last year I played against Rae/PKx2/Krav/Hydra, Rae/PKx3/Q10, and some cheesehead playing Molty/Raelin/GSWs. My other two opponents were slightly lower tier stuff (AGs and Romans) but still basically strong builds.

I heard an army with Stompy and Krav lost 4 games in a row one time, so it can't be that good.

That's because you kept "forgetting" to hand over Raelin as well to your opponents...

Well I just finished packing for Gen Con and this is what I went with for my Main Event army:





Total - 425 (15 hexes)

Thoughts??

Also I think my take 2 armies are going to be quite enjoyable for me to watch my opponents say, huh??
