Super Bogue's Customs: Odds and Ends

Not too familiar with the D&D miniatures. The Macetail Behemoth just didn't have any outstanding features like the others.

Maybe for Nemesa, some sort of ability that ties in to her Vengeful personality;

If Nemesa attacks a Unique or Uncommon Hero that inflicted a wound to Nemesa this round, add 3 to Nemesa's attack.

It limits it to opponents figures that specifically attacked her this turn and dealt damage, but it could be a bit of a rattlesnake. With her stealth flying you can swoop in and engage opponent figures and then they have to decide whether to attack her or not. Inspires a bit of fear in the opponent.

Thanks for the feedback bacchus. I used a similar mechanic on Marcu Esenwein uncursed. I could reuse that power I suppose...

Scourge is really fun looking. Good special attack option at 85 points. Makes me want to pull out Jame Murphy.

Perhaps if she is attacked and wounded, give her the option to move adjacent to that figure if it is within her movement range, and inflict a wound on a d20 roll. Ties in to her vengeful nature and stealth flying; attack her and she swoops right in to exact vengeance.

In other news, I just bought all the Heroclix figures for Thorin's Company (as well as Radagast and Gollum) for myself for Father's Day. So be on the lookout for a bunch of dwarf customs from me soon.

Sweet, I've always thought it would be hard to make all the Dwarves from The Hobbit. Thorin is an easy one, but the rest are so similar it's hard to make them unique. I look forward to seeing your take on them.

I spent awhile on Tolkien Gateway gathering every detail I could. In some cases I had to design a dwarf based off the little blurbs from Warner Bros. Thorin was one of the easy ones to design.

Presenting Thorin's Company
First, thank you to my wife (who will never read this, but oh well) for the great Father's Day present of letting me splurge on the Heroclix Hobbit figures for Thorin's Company. Second, this faction is geared to function amongst my other Lord of the Rings customs. That does not mean that each and everyone would work well mixed with classic Scape. Third, the points and some of the powers could still get changed up. Overall I want to get the Company priced somewhere between 800 and 1000 points. The cards are designed for the time in the story after Smaug's death and before the Battle of Five Armies.

Group one: The Lordly Dwarves

Thorin Oakenshield

• The Thorin figure is one of the easiest and cheapest to find. I got all of my figures from about five different eBay sellers. You should be able to get your hands on this one for a couple of dollars.
• My initial debate on designing Thorin's Company was how to make a faction of 14 heroes work. One method would have been to make one of the dwarves (most likely Thorin or Balin) a controller like Kurrok or Kato. It's not a bad idea, but I decided that I would approach it a little differently. Company Commander allows two other dwarves to attack after Thorin has completed his turn and is still engaged. Orcist is also known as the Goblin Cleaver hence it's power is a goblin specific cleave ability. Finally, Thorin has Oakenshield which should let him get out of death free once per game. Thorin has the best stats of the dwarves because he is the battle harden prince.
• Thorin and Balin make up the backbone of the company. The two of them make up about a quarter of the company's point total.

Balin

• The Balin figure is one of the rare figures in the set. Good luck finding it for less than $10. It might be better to proxy him with Mogrimm.
• Other than Thorin, the members of the company usually do not have a bunch of details written about them (actually some have next to nothing other than the color of their hoods and the instrument they play at Bag's End after dinner). One of the things that Balin is known for is his sharp eyesight. Thus he is the Lookout. It tiggers if there is an enemy figure within 12 spaces of him. Then he can move two other dwarves. Thorin gives Balin a jeweled belt from the treasure horde. There is nothing that indicates the belt increases Balin's fortitude, but why not?
• Think of Balin as the mover and Thorin as the shaker of the company.

Dwalin

• The Dwalin figure is the most plentious or at least seems to be the most plentious figure.
• Dwalin is Balin's brother. Yeah, there is not much else said about him. He shows up first at Bag End, but I can't make a power from that. Instead he got to be the protector of this faction (Merry is the protector in the hobbit group). I thought about giving him a defensive power like Dwarven Adjacent Tough, but I like him well enough with just one power.
• Dwalin is good dwarf to keep near by Thorin.

There will be some of these as the figures roll in. I have all but Gloin, Bilbo, and Ori. They have been purchased but are still in-transit. Let me know what you think.

Huh?.? No comments yet...that's odd. Well Gloin came in the mail today, so just Bilbo and Ori in-transit. I hope to get pictures and cards for them done by the end of next week. But I do have another trio ready to go.

Group two: the Blue Mountain Miners

Bifur

Spoiler Alert!

• The Bifur figure is another one of the cheaper ones. You should be able to get him for a couple dollars.
• Six of the dwarves in Thorin's company hail from the Blue Mountains. Warner Brothers that they are miners or some other kind of tradesman. Bifur is one of them. His cousins are Bofur and Bombur. For whatever reason Warner Brothers imbedded a piece of an orc axe in his forehead which is suppose to render inarticulate. From hence comes his Old War Wound. He has one more Life and one less Defense than most of the dwarves. Also since he is sporting that fierce polearm he also has Cleave.
• Keep him next to Bofur to help him cut through goblins.

Bofur

Spoiler Alert!

• The Bofur figure is another common one. Easy to find and low priced.
• The company has a couple of specific cheerleaders. Bofur is one of them. His Miner's Attack Aura 1 helps out Bifur, Bombur, Nori, and Dori. In the Hobbit film he is portrayed a bit like Pippin, so he gets Fool's Luck too. His stats are average for the dwarves.
• Keep Bofur around his fellow miners and hi-ho hi-ho it's off to work they go.

Bombur

Spoiler Alert!

• The Bombur figure is another one of the rare ones. I would just proxy him if I were you. Use Migol.
• Technically Bombur should be classes as a cook, but then he would lose the bonus from Bofur. Besides he probably knows how to mine too. Since Bombur is such a big fellow he got the Stability power from my Duergar customs. He also has the Loyal Companion from my Samwise custom. Stat wise his Life and Attack get a boosted since his Move is 4.
• I would make him Bofur's companion, so that you can protect the miner's booster.

Really hit the theme well with these SB. I may have to adapt them to my Dwarven faction. Once again great job.

Group three: The Brothers

Fili

Spoiler Alert!

• The Fili miniature is another of the cheaper and easier to find ones. One complaint that I do have about it is that in the movie and promotional art Fili has two swords yet this miniature only has one.
• I designed Fili as though he has two swords. Fili and Kili are Thorin's nephews. Sons of Dis could have been split into two powers, but thematically it goes together. They are the scouts of the company, so I waffled back and forth about giving them Move 6 but instead gave them the standard stats for the company.
• Fili and Kili fight together. The enemy is drawn in by Kili's bow and then Fili dashes in for his strike.

Kili

Spoiler Alert!

• The Kili figure is cheap and easy to find too. He does have his bow and arrows strapped to his back.
• Kili is the company's long range threat (though range 6 isn't very long), but he can't move if he is going to use his bow.
• And I wrote anything else that I would mention about Kili with Fili part, so this one is really short.
