  • Army of Darkness can turn an opponent's Hero into a Demon, with the potential drawback of having a destroyed ally of your own brought back to life as a Demon. It can be beneficial to team Ash with others who can counter Demons such as Buffy, Frankenstein, Hellboy, Witchblade, or Zauriel.

EVIL DEAD
Begin the game with 6 black Deadite Markers. Any Unique Hero with a Deadite Marker on its card has the species of Demon in addition to what is listed on its card, even if Ash is destroyed. When Ash attacks a Demon, Slasher, or Undead figure with a normal or special attack, that figure rolls 1 fewer defense and he may attack one additional time.

CHAINSAW SPECIAL ATTACK
Range 1. Attack 3.
When attacking with this special attack, if no blanks are rolled, all shields rolled count as extra skulls.

ARMY OF DARKNESS
At the end of the round, you must roll the 20-sided die. If you roll 9 or lower, place a Deadite Marker on the Army Card of an enemy Unique Hero within 6 spaces of Ash, if possible. The player that controls that Unique Hero must then choose a destroyed Unique Hero in your army, if possible. Place a Deadite Marker on the chosen destroyed Hero's card, give control of the destroyed Hero and its card to that opponent, place or remove Wound Markers until the Hero has up to 2 Life remaining, and place the Hero on an empty space within 6 spaces of Ash.

Sorry, have been busy for the last few days but taking a look now.

The first two powers are straightforward as can be, so let's get to the meat of it:

Wording suggestions

First, as I mentioned before I think the 6 or lower effect has to be limited to unique heroes, due to card management issues.

I think the second option needs to explicitly say "must" for clarity.

I think it's probably worth using markers for Army of Darkness.

Balance suggestion

I don't have any big problems here. As I gather others have noticed, he does counter the Guardians by hitting the 13+ power multiple times. This isn't a huge problem, although I think it would be reasonable to limit the effect to heroes within 5 or 6 spaces, so he can't just sit in the back of the startzone and passively nullify the Guardians.

Gameplay suggestions

I think the back from the dead power is a little easier to manage if special powers are negated. This would serve to lessen the intensity of the negative effect, and it seems reasonably thematic.

You could also argue Army of Darkness shouldn't work on constructs or androids. This would, in turn, encourage using Ash in armies with those figures (to avoid the negative effect), although you could put something in the Evil Dead power that says you can't draft those figures with Ash if you really want to .

Given my previous suggestion of a limited range, I think it's hella thematic if Ash *has* to choose a figure with the 13+ effect, and has to choose himself if he doesn't have other options.

Here's a shot at it:

Begin the game with 6 Red Possession Markers. At the end of the round, you must roll the 20-sided die. If you roll:
  • 7 or lower, choose an opponent. The chosen opponent must then choose a destroyed Unique Hero in your army that is not a construct or android, if possible. Place a Possession Marker on that card and place or remove Wound Markers until the Hero has up to 2 Life remaining. That opponent takes control of that Hero and its card and places the Hero on an empty space adjacent to a figure they control.
  • 8-13, you must roll an unblockable attack die against Ash or a figure adjacent to Ash.
  • 14 or higher, you must choose Ash or any other unique Hero an opponent controls within 6 spaces of Ash that is not a Demon and place a Possession Marker on that figure's Army Card.
For the remainder of the game, any Hero with a Possession Marker on its card has the species of Demon in addition to what is listed on its card. A previously destroyed figure with a Possession Marker on its card has all of its special powers negated.

Figure Tutorial:
Start with the Punisher, Dark Deadpool, and Nomad figures.


Cut the Punisher's right forearm off, as well as the chainsaw off of Dark Deadpool and the shotgun from Nomad.


Glue the chainsaw onto where the Punisher's right forearm/hand were, and the shotgun up against his left forearm hand(lining the hand up with the trigger allows for a good amount of surface area to glue).


Paint his pants brown.


Paint his shirt blue.


Paint his boots/shoes a dark grey or black.


Add a black belt around the pants, leaving spaces for the pant loops.


Bring the neckline of the shirt down a bit, with flesh color.


Put a dark brown or black strap around his chest as pictured, going around his back as well.


You can apply a black wash if you'd like, as well as some red on the chainsaw blades. Finished:

This one still needs some designing and hashing out. The first power I'm still pondering something that could have a possibility of being just what you as a player need to overcome the odds, or potentially make the situation worse. That's a very Ash mechanic, as he often does something really stupid to make things worse, but ultimately overcomes...only to sometime mess it up again. So a pro/con system of sorts could be cool.

A friend of mine is a huge Ash fan and will be coming over on Saturday for some C3G gaming. If I remember to do so, I can pick his brain a bit for any ideas he might have.

Too bad we can't squeeze a Boomstick special attack in there... I'd hate to eat up the space, though.

My immediate thought for the first power is getting an initiative boost for each OM you place on his card, but if you lose initiative, you have to remove an OM at random. Might be too big a punishment though, losing a turn.

Yeah I'd say whatever the bonus is needs to outweigh the negative, but both should be significant enough. I feel like winning initiative isn't much of a gain compared to losing a potential turn.
