GAME SUMMARY:
Robot got the Runaways set up within the first round, just as the Fighters moved in. Robot and Chase teamed up for the first couple of turns, but both their attack rolls were poor, while Luke and Danny surrounded Chase and took him down in three attacks. Molly jumped into the fight at that point and quickly she and Robot KOed Danny, but then Power Fatigue hit midway through the third round, losing her two turns while Luke and Meggan took down Robot and Karolina. However, she managed a comeback in the final round when Luke whiffed on a defense roll to go down, with OMs still on his card, leaving Molly the time to engage and KO Meggan.

GAME SUMMARY:
Things immediately went badly for the Runaways when Speedy got off a lucky 3-wound hit on Karolina right off. This led to Karolina going down early in the second round. Wonder Girl lassoed Molly into a bad spot, but Chase moved in to save her, and together with Robot they take down Wonder Girl. Chase went down to a whiffed defense shortly after that, but Nightwing also came out with multiple whiffs, leading to him being KOed at the start of the third round with an OM still on his card. Aqualad and Speedy followed a turn later. Kid Flash and Spoiler KOed Robot in the fourth round, while Molly finished off Spoiler in the fifth. The fight between Molly and Kid Flash lasted into the seventh round, but Kid Flash’s defense never failed, and Molly struggled to stay awake, leading to Kid Flash claiming the win unwounded.

GAME SUMMARY:
The Outlaws moved up quick and got in on Karolina, taking her down early in the second round. Chase and Robot KOed Scandal shortly after, but Catman and Ragdoll were rolling hot. Both Robot and Chase went down before the second round was over. To make things worse, Molly fell asleep at the beginning of the third round, losing her three turns. The next couple rounds was a bash between Molly and Black Alice using the power of Vengeance. But Molly just couldn’t get any hits in, until she switched to Catman and scored a 6-wound hit on him, but it was too late and she fell the following turn.

THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY: Chase fills the role of protector and secondary offense unit well. He’ll usually score a couple of good hits and absorb a couple turns of attacks. He plays great with Karolina and Molly if you can keep them together. Overall, though, he feels overcosted to me. Unlike most protector figures, his survivability is pretty low (even when backed by Karolina), making 140 a pretty steep cost to pay for a figure that won’t last long. I’d probably cut 20 or so points off him.

GENERAL THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT: Very thematic design, it captures Chase great. He fits with the faction nicely and is fun to play. I really look forward to the rest of the faction getting done and pulling these three together more. Definitely a from me.

Thanks! Looks like we're 3/3 on people enjoying the faction, which is what I like to hear.

I think bringing him down to 130 would be fair, but 120 seems a bit low - the Decoy effect never triggered, while their biggest downfalls were when Karolina went down quick. I think getting better figure grouping, and more figures to protect, will make the Decoy bit a much bigger part of his powerset.

And in from Lazy Orang! Note that Molly was played wrong in the first game, which is why she was so successful and did so much damage - LO apologizes but I don't think it really makes much of a difference for Chase's results.

Overall this reads to me as supporting Chase at 130-140 and I'd be comfortable moving forward with him at either number (knowing that we'll be getting more testing with the faction in the future). We'll see what Ronin's tests say, though, for the final verdict. Any other thoughts?

The Criminals claim the initiative, and the Hood activates his Cloak of Dormammu and flies to the level 3 asphalt perch on his half of the map. 4 Street Thugs advance.
J’onn advances and shoots the Hood for a wound, before telepathically commanding Karolina and Lightspeed to fly forwards, Lightspeed carrying Molly with her.
The Hood and two thugs charge J’onn, but the Martian blocks all the damage without Karolina’s help. Two other thugs advance.
J’onn punches The Hood for a wound, and then commands Chase and Lightspeed to advance, Lightspeed carrying Molly with her.
The Hood engages Chase and Karolina, shooting Chase twice - the first shot inflicts a wound, but would have been a wound worse were it not for Karolina’s force field - the second shot is blocked normally. He inspires Scorpion to run forwards at top speed, and he inflicts a wound on Karolina with a blast of acid.

Black Mask runs up to two Street Thugs and Mac Gargan. He shoots Karolina, but she blocks with her force field. Three Thugs, one next to Roman, attack Martian Manhunter - one rolls a skull, but is only blocked thanks to Karolina, another is blocked with ease, The one next to Black Mask rolls all skulls and inflicts a wound. The last Street Thug, who is next to Black Mask, shoots Chase, rolling three skulls, but he blocks two of them, one thanks to Karolina.
Chase fires a Fistigon at the thug who shot him, knocking him out and splashing for a wound on Black Mask.
Scorpion, with Black Mask’s... encouragement, smashes J’onn for two wounds, lashing his tail at Molly for a wound.
Molly knocks Scorpion out with ease, eliminating the Criminals’ last turn.

Round Four

The Criminals claim the initiative, and Black Mask charges J’onn, failing to harm him. The three Thugs fire shots at Martian Manhunter - two fail to achieve anything, but the one next to Black Mask executes the Martian with a shot to the head. A thug in reserve advances.
Chase fires a Fistigon through Black Mask and a Street Thug, inflicting a wound on Mr. Sionis and knocking the Thug out.
Mr. Sionis shoots Chase, but Karolina allows him to block. One thug charges Chase while next to Black Mask - he rolls 4 skulls, Chase blocks one himself and 2 with Karolina’s help. Another shoots Karolina while next to Black Mask, inflicting a wound. Two other thugs advance, one ineffectually shooting Chase from low ground.

Overview: I'll be honest, I don't get what you mean by saying they're best at hit and run - they felt more like a pod, with Karolina providing a nice defensive boost, Molly dishing out the pain, and Chase acting as a distraction/crowd control. That being said, I'm surprised by how well they worked together - Chase with Karolina particularly, he can draw fire away from the other Runaways fairly effectively, but couldn't do it for long if not for her protection. It also helped that Karolina was able to camp the asphalt perch for pretty much the whole game.

Chase Stein: Inconclusive - I don’t know the character, though I have to say, having read him up on Wikipedia, Runaway Guardian represents his headstrong nature and his protectiveness very well. Don’t know where else to ask this, though, so theme/power implication question - should the second sentence of Runaway Guardian read ‘Figures engaged with Chase cannot attack Runaways you control' - or at least friendly ones. As currently written, in a three player or more game, Chase may be forced (it isn’t an option, mind you, he has to) protect an opponent’s Runaway from attacks from another opponent.
Karolina Dean: Inconclusive - I don't know the character, but having read her up on Wikipedia, I like how her low stats seem to represent her gentle nature and lack of confidence while her defence aura represents her compassion. She seems an interesting character.

Chase Stein: Pass - I’d probably draft him in a Runaway build, though I doubt he’d be of much use elsewhere (though honestly that may be partially due to the plethora of other figures in that price range - there’s not really much reason to pick him over one of the other unless he’s with other Runaways, but that’s probably no real problem).
Karolina Dean: Pass - I'm almost certain to take her in a Runaway build, and perhaps even outside that for a cheap defensive boost, though that may not be too cost effective - I could certainly see taking her and a Runaway or two in a greater Avengers or Martian Manhunter build, though.
- Usage Test -
Chase Stein: Pass - Full disclosure, I never test with glyphs on the map (one less variable to worry about) so X-Ray Vision was never going to get any use, but it should be a nice little bonus (and not really too much more) in a match-up where there are glyphs on the board - it’s a nice power to see re-used. Everything else was used.
Karolina Dean: Pass - Runaway Force Field was remarkably useful, and Sensory Assault was useful in the second game.
- Strategy Test -
Chase Stein: Pass - Getting him into position to protect other Runaways, choosing whether to do it when next to said Runaways for the attack boost or away from them for the better defence, his two different attack types.

Molly circles around and claims height, punching down on Luke Cage - were it not for his Impenetrable Skin, she’d have inflicted 4 wounds, but instead only inflicts one. Jubilee punches Luke for a wound.
Tigra rakes at Molly, who is on height but out of range of Karolina’s aura, for two wounds. Luke has no choice but to strike either Jubilee or Chase, since Chase is protecting Molly, and elects to punch Chase, inflicting a wound - it would have been two, were it not for Karolina.
Chase claims height on Luke, standing next to Molly and punching the street fighter with 6 dice - the blow connects, wounding Luke.
Tigra strikes Molly for a wound, and Luke, unable to strike Molly, strikes Chase instead, who rolls four defence, being outside Karolina’s aura, on height and next to Molly. His blow inflicts a wound.
Karolina flies to the top of the hill, on the other side of her friends, shooting at Luke with an attack of four. She rolls all skulls, and wounds the enemy leader.

Chase fires a Fistigon at Luke and through Tigra - Luke is knocked out, taking out the Street Fighters’ first turn, but he fails to hurt Tigra.
Molly punches Tigra from height, inflicting two wounds - Jubilee fires her fireworks at Greer Nelson, unfortunately also hitting the nearly unconscious Molly. Neither Molly nor Tigra are harmed.
Tigra lashes at Molly three times. Her first blow is utterly wild - her second rolls 3 skulls, one wound being blocked by Molly herself, two more by Karolina’s force field. The third strike Molly blocks utterly.
Since she was unsure that Chase or Molly would still be alive, Karolina steps up and shoots Tigra, failing to hurt her.

Leo finishes Iceman off before striking Beast from low ground to no effect. He activates OM 3 on Donatello, who staff vaults to attack Professor X from low ground, but he defends. He activates the X on Raphael, who strikes Beast twice from low ground, inflicting a wound.
Angel puches Don, but is blocked, and Beast makes a whirlwind attack, hitting Leo for no damage, before knocking Raphael out.
Michelangelo charges Professor X, hitting him with an attack of 4 that is blocked, before taking an additional turn with Cowabunga, but is blocked with Psychic Defence X.
Beast strikes Leo, but is blocked. Angel punches Don for a wound.

Round Five

The Runaways claim the initiative, and Chase charges Tigra, but the blow is blocked by her cat-like reflexes.
Tigra knocks Chase out with her first strike. With her second blow, she attacks Molly, taking her out and eliminating the Runaway’s second turn. With her third blow, she inflicts a wound on Jubilee.
Tigra strikes Jubilee, rolling 2 skulls, one being blocked by the young mutant and one by Karolina’s force field. Her second blow inflicts two wounds. Her third blow is weak, and easily blocked.

Tigra charges Karolina - her first blow inflicts a wound, with two being blocked by the forcefield. The second blow is weak, and blocked easily by conventional means, even with Karolina’s lack of martial training. The third strike is equally weak, but needs to be blocked by the forcefield.
Karolina takes a wound from breaking engagement to make use of Sensory Assault - she rolls all skulls against Tigra, and knocks her out.
Ken runs forwards and fires a blast at Karolina - one wound is blocked by her forcefield, but she receives a wound anyway.
Karolina shoots Ken, but he blocks.
Ken knocks Karolina out with a Shoryuken.

Street Fighters victorious, Ken unwounded.

Overview: Chase wasn't that great in this game, but was a decent meat-shield, and did some damage. Karolina was... surprisingly badass this game, making up for Chase's slack - she got some pretty good luck, in both offence and support. I was concerned she may be overly passive, but I don’t think she will be if the Runaways get multi-turn potential (which I hope they do). The Runaways still aren't that strong, but that's reasonable, they aren't done yet.

Thoughts On The Tested Units’ Cost, Balance, & Draftibility:

Chase Stein: As always, I said most of what I have to say above - he’s good, could possibly use a small drop in points, but it’s nothing certain, necessary and probably best worked out when the Runaways have more synergy - he’s good.
Karolina Dean: I was going to query whether she should thematically be as passive as I suspected she would be, but she was hardly passive in test two, so I have no issues here - I like her, and I imagine she’ll be key to any Runaway build.

All in all, I’m rather excited about these Runaways - this looks like an interesting faction that’s developing. I would suggest (if it’s not presumptuous) that their leader (presumably Nico, based on Wikipedia) provide some form of full multi-turn potential rather than something weaker like movement or OM movement - these seem to be weak characters, if 180 point Molly is the strongest of them, so I imagine that they’ll really appreciate multi-turns to make them competitive (the existing ones would, certainly), plus it would alleviate any remaining concerns Karolina may be too passive, and make Molly passing out somewhat less crippling.

He does indeed drive the Leapfrog. If we didn't want to go with the X-Ray Vision power, a "drives vehicles good" power would probably make for good trinket text.

But honestly it's just not something that registered for me when drafting the writeups. I never felt like the Leapfrog was a major part of the Runaways as a team or as a book.
