A couple of wins from Fresh Foods here at the lower 330 price tag. First game I'm not really surprised at the big win, Sue isn't really a great value in that small build where she has to use OM's instead of move around for free via Reed bonding. Second game was pretty interesting to see with Buffy & Spike. Results were fairly close there with it sounding like the defense dice were just favoring Hellboy. So thinking maybe 340 at the moment. I'll hold off on any official changes until after I see LP results though. Sounds like he really enjoyed the design though and will be drafting him in the future, so a win overall for Hellboy II!

Pre-Game Thoughts/Preview :
I setup this first test to be a dream for Hellboy. His enemies are all the same species, and they all have defensive abilities to negate when attacked. Spawn struck me as a strong partner (and a really cool one, Hellboy and Spawn? That’s dope). I’m expecting a pretty decisive victory for Hellboy.

Damage Done (Normal Attack) : Used 2 Time, Inflicted 2 Wounds.
Allied Against Evil : Used to bond with Spawn all game, and extremely useful at negating the defense of all 3 of the enemy figures.
Whopper Rounds : Used 3 Times, Inflicted 3 Wounds.
Demonic Resistance : N/A

ROUND 1 : Adventurer initiative.
Turn 1 : She-Hulk leaps forward, while Hellbow and Spawn start running.

Turn 2 : Invisible Woman flies forward.

Hellboy fires his Whopper Rounds at She-Hulk. No wounds, but Spawn deals 3 wounds between his Chain Grab and normal attack.

Turn 3 : Bag-Man swings forward.

Hellboy moves adjacent to She-Hulk but fails to wound her. Spawn pulls Bag-Man adjacent and deals a wound, then deals one wound to Bag-Man and She-Hulk with his Heavy Machine Gun.

ROUND 2 : Demon initiative. (She-Hulk heals 1 wound)
Turn 1 : Hellboy fires his Whopper Rounds at She-Hulk again, dealing 1 wound. Spawn deals 2 wounds with his normal attack, finishing off She-Hulk.

She-Hulk had OM 1.

Turn 2 : Hellboy disengages from Bag-Man to move closer to Invisible Woman. Spawn fires with his Heavy Machine Gun, but fails to wound anyone.

Invisible Woman flies over some trees attacks Spawn from height, dealing 2 wounds.

Turn 3 : Hellboy punches Invisible Woman for 2 wounds, while Spawn fails to wound Bag-Man with his Heavy Machine Gun.

Turn 3 was She-Hulk.

ROUND 3 : Adventurer initiative.
Turn 1 : Invisible Woman attacks Spawn but fails to wound him.

Hellboy deals 1 wound to Invisible Woman, and Spawn heals himself of 4 wounds.

Turn 2 : Bag-Man swings away and tries to web up Spawn, but fails.

Hellboy uses his Whopper Rounds on Invisible Woman, dealing 2 wounds and killing her since she couldn't roll any defense. Spawn guns Bag-Man down with 2 wounds. Demons win!

Post-Game Thoughts : A very dominant victory, but that was an optimal situation for Hellboy. She-Hulk is squishy without her defense boost, so she went down quickly. Invis. Woman and Bag-Man just didn't have the offense to keep up.

Pre-Game Thoughts/Preview : Buffy struck me as an interesting partner for Hellboy, so I ran with those two. Hellboy, Buffy, and Spike should be able to stick together, while Iron Man is mostly there to fill out points and maybe pull an enemy into engagement to tie them down. The Vigilantes are a pretty aggressive build, with Alfred ready to pull out the first one to get injured.

Damage Done (Normal Attack) : Used 5 Time, Inflicted 14 Wounds.
Allied Against Evil : Buffy unfortunately died pretty early. Still, it was useful moving 3 units per activation while she was around.
Whopper Rounds : Used 1 Times, Inflicted 2 Wounds.
Demonic Resistance : N/A

Buffy chooses The Punisher for The Chosen One. Spike chooses Buffy for Fool For Love.

ROUND 1 : Team Hellboy initiative.
Turn 1 : Hellboy, Buffy, and Spike move up.

Punisher opens fire, dealing 4 wounds to Buffy and nearly killing her.

Turn 2 : Hellboy moves forward and fires his Whopper Rounds at Punisher, dealing 2 wounds. Spike and Buffy move forward, with the combo of Sucker Punch and Crossbow killing Punisher.

Huntress moves forward to show Buffy how a Crossbow is really used. She deals 1 wound on the second use, killing Buffy. Damian grapples to height and attacks Hellboy, 1 wound.

Turn 3 : Iron Man moves forward, and uses Magnetic Turbo Insulator to force Damian adjacent to Hellboy.

Batgirl rushes forward, dealing 3 wounds to Spike. Robin grapples away and to height and attacks Hellboy, no wounds.

ROUND 2 : Vigilante initiative. (Spike removes 1 wound.)
Turn 1 : Huntress fires at Spike with her Crossbow, dealing 3 wounds. She must have found her wooden stake bolts. Damian attacks Hellboy again, Hellboy whiffs and takes a big 5 wounds.

Hellboy punches Huntress, dealing 4 wounds and killing her.

Turn 2 : OM 2 was Huntress.

Spike wounds Batgirl with Sucker Punch. Hellboy attacks her, but a pretty bad roll keeps her from taking more wounds.

Turn 3 : Batgirl grapples away and attacks Spike, but he lives.

Hellboy marches forward and attacks Batgirl, dealing 4 wounds and killing her.

ROUND 3: Team Hellboy initiative. (Spike heals 1 wound.)
Turn 1 : Spike comes roaring at the water and attacks Batman, killing him in one big attack.

Damian moves forward and attacks Hellboy, but fails to kill him.

Turn 2 : Hellboy moves up and swings at Damian, killing him with 3 wounds.
OM 2 was Batman.

Turn 3 : Hellboy moves forward takes out Alfred in one hit. Team Hellboy wins!

Post-Game Thoughts : Both teams opened this game swinging. I really thought the vigilantes had this, killing Buffy so quickly. However, they just couldn't get that last wound on Hellboy, while he and Spike were rolling hot. Sometimes when you've got a unit with 7 attack, you just pick a figure and watch them explode.

Thoughts on the Tested Unit's Cost, Balance, and Draftability : I think his cost could come up a little. If this design was 360 and Hellboy *1* was 330, I'd say that would be a bit more accurate. I could see his attack dropping by one if you want to keep him at 330. I do think he's super draftable, Allied Against Evil lets him bond with a cool and diverse group of figures, and negating all powers on a unit (rather situationally, but still) is crazy strong.

General Thoughts on the Tested Unit : Really, really fun design. I love Allied Against Evil. I do think he's a little strong for his price, but that's nothing some small changes can't fix. Great design, I can really see myself sitting around thinking up armies with this figure as the lynchpin.

Yea pretty rough to see Sue without Reed. I do love to see Bag-Man! Much more playable at 125 points.

Here are Redbeards tests. Split a couple of close ones and he really liked how he played, so I'm feeling pretty good here. Doesn't look like he used the negation aspect a ton though, so might still bump him up 10 points depending on how LP's test turn out.

Summary: This was an absolute slaughter. Maybe more on Red Skull than Hellboy, but Hellboy and Siryn loved his rerolls. Of course, taking out Prof X immediately isn’t great for the Xmen, but I don’t see much other way this could have gone. Hellboy negated his shield, and Red Skull ensured that his whoppers would hit for full power. I think this is a great matchup for this army.

Recap: Crossbones and RS move up first. Hellboy stays within RS’s aura, but just reaches Prof X, negates him, and kills him instantly with Whopper rounds!!! Siryn deals a wound to Jean. RS sends Crossbones to kill Jean, which he easily does from height. Hellboy negates Angel and hits him for 2 with his Whoppers. Cyclops tries an Optic Blast but RS keeps their defense strong. Siryn kills Angel and puts 2 wounds on Cyclops. Cyclops hits Hellboy for a wound, and then Crossbones cuts down Iceman in a single turn. RS guns down Cyclops. Hellboy blasts Beast who is trying to run forward, and deals 3 wounds. Siryn then follows up with a huge 4 skull attack and finishes him.




Who won? List figures remaining in the winning army (include life remaining for heroes): Hellboy with 2 wounds, Siryn with 1 wound. The rest unwounded.

Summary: A little bit closer this time. Hellboy had horrible luck with his Whoppers without Red Skull making them more consistent. I thought they cut Luke down quickly, but couldn’t. Wolverine trashed Etrigan too quickly also, which ruined Hellboy’s bonding.

Recap: Hellboy chooses Etrigan as his partner, and Mutate as his target species. Hellboy shoots Luke with his Whopper rounds, negating him, but he misses. Etrigan deals 2 wounds to Wolverine and 1 wound to Luke. Wolverine grabs height and hits Etrigan for 5 wounds! Then he heals both his wounds at the end of the round. Wolverine finishes Etrigan at the round switch, then Luke punches Hellboy for 3 wounds. Hellboy tries his Whoppers against but Luke blocks then normally. Hellboy grabs height and hits Wolverine for 3 wounds. Wolverine finishes Hellboy with his Berserker rage! Wolverine charges Blade, dealing 3 wounds, but Blade grabs high ground and fully kills Wolverine in one turn! Luke eventually finishes him off though.

THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY:
Balance is kind of hard to say. He dominates in the right matchups with his negation and bonding, but otherwise he doesn’t feel too bad. I think he’s close, but I wouldn’t mind a tiny pad to his cost to be safe. He’ll be draftable either way, with his bonding power.


GENERAL THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT:
He’s extremely fun! Loved bonding with some of my lesser used units, and he felt appropriately powerful. I really like that you get to choose his targets so he’s not shoehorned into being a specific counterdraft. Analysis on cost and balance aside, I think we nailed him!
