Saw X-Men Apocalypse last night. Solidly OK, no where near as epic as Days of Future Past, and suffered from having way too many characters crammed into one space, but it was cool to see the return of a lot of classic X-men (Jean, Cyclops, Angel, Nightcrawler, etc).

Way too many of the characters are shown for only a scene or two and are never really given any character development (or any dialogue for that matter), it felt like Angel, Storm and Psylocke were just there because they needed to round out the numbers for the four horsemen. Jubilee was incredibly disappointing (its more of a extended cameo than a true role), and Wolverine felt a bit forced. Apocalypse was well done IMO, but its not really that interesting to see a guy with near-infinite power fight. That being said, I though Cyclops was cool, Magneto was great, and Jean and Nightcrawler could have been really good if they had spent more time with them.

Still a good summer action movie (I think I prefer it to Avengers 2), maybe more worth a matinee or a rental than a full price.

Oh, and the end credits scene is pointless

That was like watching Last Stand all over again, with a gratuitous Wolverine scene and the Quicksilver scene from DoFP thrown in the middle.

Most of the performances seemed dialed in, Mystique and Beast didn't want to put on any more make up than they had to. But Psylocke had no problem pouring it on, her giant fake eyelashes distracted me. I don't think she had any speaking lines though. The actress who played Jean Grey just seemed bored the whole time. Jubilee never used her powers. What a mess. Magneto's other daughter, Nina. Really?

I also saw it Monday afternoon and felt it was underwhelming. There were some parts I enjoyed, the Wolverine part was one of them along with the opening scene in ancient Egypt, but it didn't really cover any new ground in the franchise at all and had several poorly written parts. I might have enjoyed the final battle more had I not just see all the fantastic superhero action in Civil War. It wasn't all bad though, just a let down after that last two X-men films were pretty good.

I liked it. Wasn't as good as DoFP or First Class, but I still thought it was decent. Probably an 8/10 for me. Enjoyed Jean, Cyclops, Nightcrawler, Quicksilver, and Magneto especially. I thought it was a decent showing of some characters we haven't seen focus on in a while, or ever in some cases. I also appreciated Apocalypse being a legitimate threat and not working for a higher power, as MCU villains often suffer from.
