Darrak Ambershard Pre-Release Discussion Thread

I'm making some Pre-Release Discussion Threads so that no one needs to worry about books right now. We can keep all the excitement of finally seeing everything in these threads. The books could be created later, like when the figures actually come out and we can play with them instead of rampantly TheoryScaping. The idea is to keep the books a little cleaner, but still provide a place for figure-specific discussion until later.

It's like football with swords or LARPing without the geeky stuff. In other words, it's awesomely perfect!

Re: Darrak Ambershard Pre-Release Discussion Thread

Derrak: 60
Migol: 170
Axegrindersx3: 380
2x Marro Stingers: 500

I sense win.

Review:

Derrak appears that he will be able to play alongside the Axegrinders and Migol very well.

Point value: Prior to any playtesting, I'm thinking of a B+ on boards w/o shadow or dungeon tiles, and a wonderful 'A+' on such maps.

Overall:

Move: 5, Average but prevents it from getting way ahead of the Axegrinders.
Attack: 4/6: WONDERFUL, have we seen a 60 point unit that can get 6 attack, plus a 4-figure squad behind it?
Defense/Life: Counting the power, about average, but on dungeon/shadow, he effectively turns into Isamu with 4 life. And everyone has seen Isamu do great things.

Lastly: a 5% of activating a trap with him (assuming a 1-5 normally triggers it). That's a wonderful bonus. Time will tell to see how useful it is in tournaments, but it is certainly useful in the campaign.

Re: Darrak Ambershard Pre-Release Discussion Thread

He is not as good as Migol, with just raw BAMF ability, but he is a considerable hero. For only 60 points, he is quite effective on Dungeon maps, and can quickly sneak up and deal alot of damage (pun not intended). His trap ability is also a nice boon. I think he will see quite a bit of play.

This is a nice idea. This way, there will be less need to clean the books later.

He is a great filler Dwarf for that extra activation when Migol is dead and the Dwarves are already engaged. He can come in and attack, getting the bonus for an Axegrinder buddy.

Tai-Pan! Thank you! Thank you very much, for creating these discussion threads so we can get the BOOKS created without the chat-room feel.

Re: Darrak Ambershard Pre-Release Discussion Thread

I think this guy is solid all around. He has some low survivability, but he is 60 points.

The only thing to remember about him is that he takes his turn before the axegrinders, that hurts his ability to use sneak attack effectively.

Let those who have the daylight spurned
Tread not where this green lamp has burned.

Re: Darrak Ambershard Pre-Release Discussion Thread

I think his ability will be great fun to set up(and not that hard). Just activate Migol and the Axegrinders one turn and the following turn use him instead of Migol. I've been looking forward to more Dwarf heroes so im stoked to try him out.

Re: Darrak Ambershard Pre-Release Discussion Thread

The easy potenial for 6 attack dice (with a 4 dwarf bonded squad supporting him) makes him a hard hitter for only 60 points. I think he'll see lots of use with the axe grinders. His hide power is great when shadow tiles are about too. This one is a winner.

Weird he's Medium 4. What is the height variation for dwarves in DnD? It should say in a player's handbook under character creation.

Re: Darrak Ambershard Pre-Release Discussion Thread

I love him. Except for the medium 4 height. That is odd. I guess they couldn't put in climb x2 on his card so they had to make him taller. Not a big deal. 60 pts for a guy who hits for 4/6 is pretty awesome. Using him with rats would be pretty sweet. I think it would be the first time I would consider using the rats as a screen with an all melee army, lol. rats tie up ranged units, wait for darrak and company to come up, then darrak turns into a viable insta-death machine walking around stabbing people in the back. Very cool.

..and only 60 pts.

Cheap, effective and another choice for an Axegrinder assault. It's always good to have new units add to existing ones.

Re: Darrak Ambershard Pre-Release Discussion Thread

This guy is a perfect compliment to Tandros. Get Tandros adjacent, then bring in Darrak with 6 attack. Tandros will protect Darrak from that particular fig. Great job, WotC!
