Spoiler Alert!

Firefly moves up. 2 N’Garai move up. Firefly takes down a N’Garai (going to just call them demons from here on out). A demon wounds Firefly (misses poison tipped claws) and another moves up. Firefly rains fire to kill a demon. A demon puts 2 wounds on Firefly.

Firefly kills a demon. Pinhead activates 2 demons, one kills Firefly to bring back a demon and the other moves up. Freeze spawns an ice rock which doesn’t wound a demon. A demon puts 2 wounds on Freeze cause he whiffed, then poison tipped claws puts a third wound on. Freeze then places his last two ice rocks, healing a wound from himself and killing two demons with 3/3 skulls rolled. 2 Demons move up, but they elect to not attack the ice rocks to avoid giving Freeze more ammo.

One demon kills Freeze, resurrecting another demon. Lost OM1 on Freeze. Pinhead whiffs his Denizens of Hell roll. Red Hood kills 2 demons with his special attack. Pinhead whiffs again. Red Hood kills another demon.

Pinhead rolls 3 skulls, but too late, as only 1 demon is left, so both he and the demon move up. Red Hood kills the last N’Garai demon then wounds Pinhead. Pinhead puts 2 wounds on Red Hood. Red Hood puts 2 wounds on Pinhead. Pinhead attacks Red Hood, who evades and counters for a wound on Pinhead. Red Hood then finishes off Pinhead.


Who won? List figures remaining in the winning army (include life remaining for heroes): Red Hood (2 wounds) and Cheetah (unused) win.

The N’Garai were slow to start, but once they got going they were pretty good with their resurrecting getting another N’Garai right where the action is. They definitely are weak against autowounds and special attacks! 45 is looking good.

A N’Garai demon carries Chucky up and Leatherface moves up. Joker and Harley advance. Harley throws the Smilex bomb and rolls 4 skulls, killing the demon while putting 3 wounds on Leatherface and Chucky. Pinhead whiffs his Denizens of Hell roll. Joker kills Leatherface while Harley moves up. Pinhead advances, a demon wounds Joker, and a demon fails to wound Harley. Joker is blocked then Harley is blocked.

Joker fails and Harley wounds Pinhead. A demon wounds Joker. Joker and Harley are blocked. The demons wound Joker and Harley. Joker kills a demon with his toxin and Harley fails. A Demon wounds Harley with Chucky’s help. This is enough to resurrect Leatherface.

Leatherface wounds Joker. Joker & Harley fail. A demon wounds Joker. Strange moves up some Arkham inmates. Pinhead whiffs. Strange moves up the Arkham inmates.

Strange buffs the Arkham Inmates. A demon kills Joker (resurrecting a demon) then Chucky murders an Arkham Inmate, which probably violates the geneva convention or something. The inmates kill a demon and put 3 wounds on Leatherface. A demon kills an inmate, resurrecting a demon. The inmates kill Leatherface and a demon. Pinhead gets a clutch 3 skull roll, allowing 2 N’Garai to kill 2 inmates (bringing back all of the dead demons), and chucky kills another inmate. An inmate kills a demon.

The last Arkham inmate disengages Chucky, killing him, then wounds Pinhead. Pinhead whiffs. The inmate wounds Pinhead. A demon kills the inmate to bring back the only dead demon. Harley takes a disengagament wound then fails. A demon kills Harley, bringing back Leatherface. This army just won’t stay dead.

Scarecrow advances and throws fear gas. 3 N’Garai attack Scarecrow and fail. Scarecrow kills a demon. Pinhead whiffs. Scarecrow is blocked. Leatherface moves up because the demons are crippled with fear.

Pinhead rolls 3 skulls, so the demons put 2 wounds on Scarecrow and Leatherface finishes him off. Strange fails. Leatherface and a demon each wound Strange. Strange fails. The demon kills Strange, bringing back another demon.

A demon fails. Catwoman disengages taking a wound then kills a demon with her whip. Pinhead whiffs. Catwoman fails. Leatherface puts 4 wounds on Catwoman. Catwoman takes a disengagement wound but kills Leatherface.

A demon puts 2 wounds on Catwoman. Catwoman has to disengage to use her special, but doing so kills her, bringing back the only dead demon.


Who won? List figures remaining in the winning army (include life remaining for heroes): Pinhead (3 wounds) & all 7 N’Garai win.

Everyone except for Pinhead could resurrect, and the Insane posse just didn’t have the firepower to counter that. I knew the N’Garai would be good against squads, but I underestimated how brutal they were with the autoshield and resurrection.

THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY: Pretty strong when paired with Pinhead & Slashers, since everyone can resurrect. Especially strong against squads and melee. They’re slow though, and Pinhead isn’t the most reliable leader. I’d definitely watch the next tests carefully. I know my Insane army wasn’t the strongest opponent for the Pinhead/N’Garai army to face, so putting them up against one of our more standard strong army builds (F4, X-Men, Titans, etc.) would be recommended.

Summary of the game:

Round 1: T2 wins initiative
-The Turtles are trying to take the bridge, but only Raph ever actually makes it up there due to a Donnie Throw
-A N’Garai (From here on just referred to as Demons) takes the Glyph of Wannok
-The Demon inflicts a wound on Raph using Wannok

Round 2: T2 wins initiative
-Raph rushes Leatherface, inflicting 2 wounds on the Slasher
-Donnie impales the N’Garai that was on the Wannok with his Bo Staff
-Leatherface takes the Wannok
-Leatherface Massacres Donatello, inflicting 1 wound and causing him to drop the Gauntlet
-Chucky uses Child’s Play to inflict a wound on Donnie
-Leatherface uses Wannok to inflict a wound on Raph

Round 3: T1 wins initiative
-Leatherface Massacres Donnie, inflicting a wound
-A Demon kills Donnie, replacing him with another Demon
-Leo slices a Demon in half
-Mikey kills Leatherface and inflicts 3 wounds on Chucky

-Pinhead uses Hooked Chains on Raph, inflicting 1 wound and causing him to drop the Gauntlet
-A Demon slashes at Raph, inflicting 1 wound
-Leo slices another Demon in half
-Leo attacks Chucky, but Chucky successfully plays dead
-Raph leaps over to Pinhead and inflicts 1 wound on him
-Raph succumbs to a Demon’s Poison Tipped Claws, getting replaced by another Demon
-Mikey takes out Chucky
-Mikey uses the Wannok to destroy a Demon
-However, this brings Leatherface back to life

Round 5: T1 wins initiative
-Leatherface Massacres Mikey, inflicting 1 wound
-Pinhead uses Hooked Chains to finish off Mikey
-Leo ambushes Leatherface, inflicting 3 wounds
-However, this brings Chucky back to life
-Leatherface tries to Massacre Leo, but just ends up killing himself
-Leo gives Pinhead a solid 3 wounds

Round 6: T2 wins initiative
-Leo kills Pinhead and inflicts 2 wounds on Chucky
-A Demon inflicts a wound on Leo with Poison TIpped Claws
-Leo almost destroys Chucky, but the Slasher manages to play dead
-A Demon inflicts 2 wounds on Leo
-Chucky inflicts a wound on Leo with Child’s Play
-Leo inflicts a wound on Chucky
-Chucky finishes off Leo with Child’s Play

Post-game thoughts: A really effective little army. The N’Garai can mobilize pretty fast with Pinhead’s help, and they’re especially scary when combined with Chucky, as Poison Tipped Claws and Child’s Play give you 2 chances to inflict an autowound even if you fail your attack. Those wounds then turn the wheel on the Slasher resurrection machine, which is a nice boon for Pinhead.

Pre-game thoughts: Chucky is a Demon. The plan here is to keep Pinhead in the SZ until at least one of the Slashers falls, at which point I’ll summon him to the front lines to do damage.

Summary of the game:

-Freddy haunts Reed’s dreams, inflicting 1 wound
-Reed, Johnny, N’Astirh (I’m gonna just call him Nasty), and Chucky all fight over the bridge
-Nast hurls his fireball, but fails to do any damage

Round 2: T2 wins initiative
-Nasty summons the Demons, placing one on the Glyph of Wannok and setting the rest up to assault Reed and Sue
-Johnny uses Flame On, taking an LEA but inflicting 2 wounds on Nasty
-Reed takes out a Demon to protect Sue
-A Demon inflicts 1 wound on Sue with his normal attack, then another with Poison Tipped Claws
-Sue blasts a Demon, killing it
-Johnny uses Flame On, taking an LEA but frying another Demon
-Freddy materializes next to Pym
-A Demon leaves the Wannok but inflicts 2 wounds on Sue
-Chucky finishes off Sue with Child’s Play

Post-game thoughts: I feel like victory here had little to do with the N’Garai, and a lot to do with the Slashers being the ultimate comeback kings. Still, being able to suddenly swarm your opponent by summoning the Demons with N’Astirh felt both fun and effective.

THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY: They were super-effective against the Turtles, but not so much against the F4. (Especially Johnny.) But for 45 points, they’re certainly not bad. I didn’t test it, but I’m sure Trigon will love having cheap fodder that can self-reproduce. They do feel a bit tied to Pinhead right now, but I think that’ll change as more Demon synergy is introduced.

GENERAL THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT: I like how they feel legitimately dangerous, even though they’re fragile. Summoning them with N’Astirh, even if it didn’t really work out, felt really thematic and satisfying.

I'd be a bit more comfortable at 50, but I think that's my own biases after my tests. Looking over the results, I agree than 45 is fine. They went 3/2 in Pinhead armies. Only one Trigon test, but that was a fairly close win and while the N'Garai are the cheapest Demons, the Blood Demons would probably be a better combo due to their Cursed Blood power. Just thinking out loud here.

yea at 45 or 50, feel like their value will only go up as people use them more, and more synergy comes down the line. That is often the nature of the beast with cheap units drafted in multiples. Plus 50 makes it easier to draft odd numbers of them into an army, I'm going to feel the need to draft them in sets of 2 or with a '5' unit at 45. But I won't hold the design up over it.

I actually kind of like encouraging taking at least 2, hence the 45. Thanks for the thoughts
