Meanwhile, unnoticed by Kit, Nargshir, or any of the others, another vampire had slipped into the room by means of a side door. She made her way along the wall behind Cyprien, and began to edge closer to Cerise, Larkin, and Daniel.
These three now turned to Cyprien, and rushed to aid Kit, but Sonya, for it was she, flew thro9ugh the air and landed before Cerise, forcing her backwards with her sword. Cerise dodged the blow just in time, and Larkin, springing through the air, met Sonya’s blade with his own. Daniel leveled his pistol at Sonya, but had to duck a moment later, as Cerise aimed a fire ball at Iskra, who had been creeping up behind him.
With a hiss, Iskra flew out of the way of the fire. She landed a few feet away, and Cerise took the opportunity to aim another fireball at her. Iskra couldn’t quite avoid this one, and the force of the impact flung her backwards and out through a window. Cerise then turned back to Larkin and Sonya.
They were dueling almost as fast as Kit and Cyprien were halfway across the room, their blades flashing in the flickering light from the torches. It was clear, however, that Sonya, with several hundred years of experience to back her up, had the upper hand. Larkin dodged and swerved, turning aside every blow and repeatedly sneaking past her guard, but every one of his blows were met by Sonya’s blade as well.
Daniel fired a well aimed bullet, and Sonya stumbled to the ground, clutching her leg. Larkin pressed his advantage, but Sonya somehow still managed to ward off his attack.
Meanwhile, Kit and Cyprien continued to duel all across the room, leaping from chair to table to floor, and, in Cyprien’s case, to wall and ceiling. They were both nearly equally matched, but the speed of Kit’s attack was wearing the vampire down. The added pressure of having Nargshir behind him caused a distraction, and as a result, he had already taken two light wounds in addition to the one Nargshir had given him.
At the moment, Kit was striking seemingly at every part of Cyprien at once, driving him backwards, forcing him closer and closer to the wall. Every time Cyprien tried to fly out of reach, one of Kit’s katanas would appear above him and he would be forced back down.
It was infuriating, Cyprien thought, to be held in check by this… this… boy. Kit was, after all, quite young, though certainly no boy. Cyprien had rarely been so equally matched, and when he had been forced to fight like this, it had been against old veterans, not some young warrior like this. Cyprien had, after all, overcome much greater warriors than he. With these thoughts in his mind, he lunged forward, intending to strike a blow against Kit… and promptly recoiled as Kit sank one of his katanas into his arm. Kit could have beaten every one of those veterans, and with ease, Cyprien decided. He would not, however, beat him.
Sonya had managed to beat off Larkin and Daniel, and had flown to the far end of the room, Cerise firing fireballs after her.
As Kit and Cyprien came closer, blades flashing, Daniel rolled out of the way and came up with his pistol trained on Cyprien, ready to fire. Larkin went behind Kit, in case he needed any help, and Cerise kept Sonya flying around the room to avoid her flames. At that moment, Kit triumphantly batted aside Cyprien’s guard, and prepared to sink both his katanas into his heart. Daniel instantly trained his pistol on the vampire, and Larkin and Nargshir leapt forward as well. In the one split second before Kit’s katanas reached their destination, a high and very large window set in the far wall suddenly shattered, the pieces of glass falling and glimmering in the light spectacularly. Flying through the rain of glass shards, came another vampire, and though neither Kit nor Nargshir had ever seen him before, they knew instantly who he must be: Nicholas Esenwein.

Kit glanced up for a only a moment before returning his attention to Cyprien, but that moment was enough. Cyprien was back up, now on the offensive, forcing Kit back across the room towards Nicholas.

Larkin immediately sprang forward, swinging his elven blade in an attempt to take out Nicholas before he could be a threat, but the vampire drew his sword incredibly fast, almost casually knocking aside the elf’s weapon. Nicholas pressed his advantage, stabbing towards Larkin’s chest, but a bullet from Daniel hit his arm and spun him around. No blood came out of the wound, and Nicholas turned back towards Larkin. Daniel's shot had appeared to have no effect whatsoever. Nicholas took up his sword once more and closed with Larkin, keeping the elf in between him and Daniel. Good a swordsman as Larkin was, Nicholas was clearly better, and it was only the added threat of Daniel that kept the young elf alive as they dueled back and forth, Nicholas being constantly forced to maneuver around Larkin as he attempted to stay away from Daniel, who was circling cautiously, waiting for an opportunity to shoot.

Cerise, meanwhile, deciding that Sonya, who was on the other side of the room, was no longer an immediate threat, chose to aim a fireball at Cyprien, who was locked in fierce combat with Kit. As Cyprien leaped backwards to avoid it, Kit looked around at her. Their eyes met for a moment, and Cerise found herself blushing furiously as she looked into his steady gray eyes. Only for a moment, however, because Sonya was suddenly upon her, slashing out at Cerise’s neck. Cerise jumped backwards to avoid it, tripping over an ornate footstool. Sonya leaped forwards triumphantly, swinging downwards towards the elf. As Cerise tried hopelessly to bring her fire to bear in time, Sonya’s blade descended towards the defeated elf. Her sword, however, was met at the last moment by a slim, deadly katana. Sonya immediately sprung away from Cerise to face Kit, who had ceased his relentless attack on Cyprien to save Cerise. As Cyprien attempted to follow him, Nargshir sprang on him from behind, ferociously tearing at his exposed back. Sonya swung at Kit, who deflected her blade with an air of casualness, bring around his other katana to stab her, which she only barely dodged, spinning away from the human. She looked at him with something akin to fear: never in her long life had she been so easily outmatched. He stepped forward towards her, blades flickering in an out, seemingly possessed of lives of there own. Kit played past her guard, slashing along her arm, and, as she flinched, he twisted past her blade and drove his sword perilously close to her heart. She stepped back, gasping. After a moment, in which she swayed unsteadily where she stood, gasping unseeingly at Kit, her legs gave way, and she fell to the floor. Cyprien screamed in fury, throwing the unfortunate Nargshir off of him into the wall. He leaped at Kit, slashing wildly in fury. Kit jumped back, fending off his blows fairly easily, as an angry swordsman won’t fight nearly as well as a sober one. However, Kit was very careful with him, because he knew that Cyprien was, in this state, more likely to do something rash and dangerous than he normally would. So Kit kept his distance, blocking all of Cyprien’s attacks but making very few of his own. Nargshir, who had gotten back up, followed at a similar, discreet distance, very wary of the enraged vampire. Cerise got up, albeit shakily, and tottered forward. The near death experience had shaken her. She looked around, seemingly in a daze, and then, shaking her head to clear it up, walked more steadily towards where Larkin and Daniel were dueling Nicholas. Nicholas, seeing her coming and recognizing that he couldn’t duel all three at once, began to retreat, forcing Larkin to follow him out onto the Essenwein’s ornate balcony.

Kit had, while retreating from the furious vampire, also reached the balcony. The two separate fights meshed and became one. Everyone was dueling everyone else. Cerise, still a little punch-drunk, aimed a fireball at Cyprien. She missed, hitting a section of the railing, which was torn off by the force of the spell. Frowning slightly, she aimed another one. This one caught Cyprien square in the back. He was flung forward into Kit and Nargshir, and the three of them were carried off of the balcony and fell towards the ground below.

Cyprien, Kit, and Nargshir flew off of the balcony and rapidly fell from sight. Cerise would have rushed forward, but Nicholas spun around, and, facing her, Larkin, and Daniel, slashed empty air with his sword, tracing a curving arc in the air.
An almost invisible dark blue line was left in the blade’s path, and, as if flung forward, it now flew towards Cerise. It looked like some kind of magic, but Cerise had never seen anything like it before.
She ducked, allowing the arc to pass over her. Even though it did not touch her, she could feel the extreme heat from it. She looked back up at Nicholas just in time to see him throw another of the arcs at Daniel. Daniel swerved out of the way, but the tip of the arc nicked his coat, and left a deep gash in it.
Nicholas then threw another larger arc at both Larkin and Cerise. They both ducked at the same time, and easily avoided it. Daniel raised his gun and pointed it at Nicholas, but the vampire sprang forward and knocked the weapon from Daniel’s hands.
Daniel stumbled backwards, fumbling for another gun in his pockets, and Larkin leaped in front of Nicholas, his sword ready.
With no Daniel to add pressure, Nicholas batted aside Larkin’s guard easily and sliced upwards towards his head. Larkin leaned backwards to avoid the blade, and at the same time slashed at Nicholas with his own sword.
At the same moment, Cerise fired a fireball at Nicholas, and he was forced to jump backwards to avoid injury. He then threw an arc at Daniel and Larkin, forcing them to duck, and jumped towards Cerise.
Nicholas was far too fast for Cerise to fire another fireball. She barely had enough time to duck Nicholas’s blade before eh had landed behind her and was slashing at her again. Before she could do a thing, she felt the sting of his blade on her arm. In desperation, she finally managed to erect a wall of flame in front of herself. The heat forced both of them back. By this time, Daniel had procured another weapon, and Larkin had recovered from Nicholas’s attack. The three of them retreated a few steps towards the wall, warily watching the vampire before them. After a moment, the wall of fire parted, as if being swept aside by an invisible force, and Nicholas sprung through, heading directly for Larkin.

Meanwhile, Cyprien, Kit, and Nargshir had been falling through the air, all the while still battling furiously. Both Kit and Nargshir had latched themselves onto Cyprien – Nargshir onto his back, Kit entangled with his swords. Cyprien had been forced to stop his fall before he was crushed on the ground below, and had flown upwards just at the last moment. Kit and Cyprien had never stopped battling. Kit appeared to be flying alongside Cyprien, but in reality, eh was changing his hold so fast that Nargshir couldn’t keep track. It was also useful as it meant that Cyprien could not shake him off. Preoccupied as eh was with Kit, Cyprien also had Nargshir to deal with.
Nargshir had dug his claws into the vampire’s back, and was now attempting to get a secure hold around his neck. However, Cyprien kept on twisting and spinning around in the air so fast, that Nargshir had all eh could do just to hang on.
It was a dizzying flight. They flew around spires, under bridges, and over towers. Nargshir was just beginning to appreciate just how large Cyprien’s castle really was, when an unearthly screeching filled the air about them.
Kit and Cyprien continued to battle, but Nargshir looked up to see the source of the sound. When eh found it he felt his grip slip slightly.
Iskra had returned, but she was mounted on a huge beast. If Nargshir had had to give it a name, it would have been a bat, but it was many times larger. Its head was so large that it looked as though it could have eaten him in two bites. Its giant leathery wings were beating the air at a sickening speed, causing great gusts of wind to emanate from it, and a long, heavy tail hung out behind it, slightly curled. Two red eyes glowed from the recesses of the head, their light identical to that in Iskra’s eyes. Following this creature was another bat, even larger than the first. This one was riderless, and Nargshir wondered why for a moment until eh felt himself being flown towards it.
Nargshir had a split second to decide what to do. The bat would snap him up in an instant if he remained where he was. If he let go, eh might be able to reach one of the bats and hold on, but it was far more likely that he would fall to the stone walls below.
Thinking fast, he released his grip on Cyprien, and felt the vampire triumphantly shake him off. Then, maneuvering in midair the best he could, eh managed to sink the claws of one paw into the side of Iskra’s bat.
The bat let out another piercing screech and wheeled around in the air, trying to shake the wolf off, but Nargshir had managed to bring his other arm around and was now holding on securely.
Kit, meanwhile, had somehow avoided the other giant bat’s snapping jaws and had landed on it with Cyprien, still dueling him fiercely. Iskra moved her bat closer to Cyprien’s, but before she could help him, Nargshir had leapt on her from below.
His claws sank into her shoulder, and his teeth connected with her right arm. Screaming in pain, Iskra released her grip on one of her swords, and it immediately fell to the courtyard below. Nargshir then deflected a blow from the other sword, and dislodged it with his other arm. Then, almost throwing himself off of the bat in the attempt, eh caught it before it fell, and, turning to face the vampire, drove it straight into Iskra’s cold heart.

It had been clear that Nicholas would have defeated them all soon, so Cerise had signaled to the others to run for it. They had, straight out the door they had come in, and had shut the door in Nicholas’s face. The door had been thrown open a moment later, but they were already far along the hallway. Nicholas sent several arcs after them, but they reached the stairs just in time, the arcs passing harmlessly over their head and embedding themselves in the wall. They went down the stairs, turning circle after circle, growing slightly dizzy as they heard Nicholas crashing after them.
At long last, after what seemed like at least thirty minutes to Cerise, they saw moonlight up ahead. Soon, they had all piled out through the doors, Nicholas in hot pursuit.
Looking up, Cerise saw, far above but coming steadily closer, two giant creatures, each holding two figures.

Nargshir did not draw the sword out. He watched as Iskra looked at him, as if confused. Then, as if in slow motion, eh saw her eyes slowly contract, and then grow blank. Her head fell back, and she fell from the bat as he drew the sword out, allowing her to fall. Her bat was diving for the ground, as if determined to catch her, and, seeing his chance, Nargshir drove the sword into the bat’s head, making sure to lodge it precisely in the center, and then leapt for the ground, rolling to break his fall.
Kit, in the meantime, had somehow gotten past Cyprien’s guard. A quick blow to the head was all he had time for, but it was enough. Cyprien paused in his relentless beating of Kit’s katanas, and Kit, seeing the ground coming ever closer, grabbed him by the shoulders and flung him over the side of the bat. He kept his grip, and they both fell over, tumbling towards the ground…

Larkin didn’t wait for Nicholas, but sprang forward to meet him, catching the vampire by surprise and almost lopping off an arm before Nicholas leapt backwards out of the way. He glared at Larkin, and started to lunge, but a fireball came directly at him and he was forced to leap backwards. Daniel, holding his gun like a duelist, was methodically firing at the vampire, forcing him back still farther. Enraged, Nicholas shot straight up into the air, landing right behind Cerise and slashing out. A bullet glanced of his sword, and he was spun around. Whipping back around, he began to attack again, but was forced to jump over the fireball that she sent at him. He swept downwards triumphantly, swinging his sword towards Cerise’s head. Larkin’s blade met his, deflecting it away from Cerise, and they began to duel. The frustrated vampire was forced to go out of his way to dodge bullets and fireballs, and all the while fend of the aggressive elven swordsman.

Kit tumbled towards the ground, spinning in dizzying circles and clinging tightly to Cyprien’s arms, making sure that the vampire couldn’t attack. The fall ended abruptly as Cyprien tried to pull out of it, straining to keep them both aloft. He only managed to slow them down. Growling, he snapped forward, trying to reach Kit’s neck, but Kit recoiled. Then they hit the ground, rolling over and over down a hill. At the bottom, Kit flipped upright and lunged forward, but Cyprien simply flew over his head, landing on the other side. As Cyprien landed, Nargshir came out of nowhere , hitting him squarely in the back and throwing him forward, Cyprien rolled as he landed, throwing Nargshir over his head towards Kit, who, not wanting to let Narghsir get hurt, dropped his katanas and caught Nargshir, falling backwards under the weight. The wolf leapt up immediately, prowling towards Cyprien while Kit recovered his katanas. The wolf suddenly leapt forward, but Cyprien waved a sword and the burly figure of the jailer from Valhalla appeared, looking very surprised as a large wolf landed on his face and started savaging it. While the wolf was occupied, Cyprien lunged towards Kit, who was still staring at the jailer. Coming to his senses, Kit deflected the vampire’s swords just in time, locking them down with his own. As they strained against each other, Kit asked, “How can that jailer be alive? We killed him.”

Cyprien smiled nastily, trying to push Kit back, “How little you know of magic.”

Nicholas lunged, but a fireball of truly massive size hit him, and he was flung backwards. Unfortunately for him, he had chosen that precise moment to leap into the air, and the fire ball caused him to be flung upwards to land with a sickening crunch against a tower wall.
Cerise turned, and began to fire fire balls at Kit and Cyprien, who were only about twenty paces away. Kit dodged them, and they glanced off of Cyprien, barely hurting him at all. Kit glanced towards Cerise, and his eyes widened in alarm: Sonya was staggering out of the doorway behind her, sword drawn. Kit yelled “Ceri—“ Cyprien cut him off, lunging towards him angrily. Fear for Cerise pulsed through Kit as he fought back, and he felt a desire to end this fight as fast as possible. Attacking faster than he had believed possible, he stabbed straight towards Cyprien’s heart. Cyprien trapped his blade between his own two, the point of Kit’s sword an inch away from Cyprien’s heart. He smiled ferally at Kit. Then Nargshir hit him in the back, propelling him forward onto Kit’s katana. Time seemed to slow down. Cyprien, a surprised look on his face, toppled slowly off the katana and onto the ground. He landed with a dull thud. Kit turned in time to see Cerise looking towards him, with Sonya standing right behind her with her sword poised in the air. Kit looked on hopelessly, knowing that there was time for him to do anything. The blow didn’t fall. Sonya was staring, transfixed, at the place where Cyprien had fallen. She seemed to be unable to understand that he was dead. Cerise turned, flinching as she saw the blade and ducking out from under it. But the blade didn’t fall. After what seemed to be an eternity, Sonya simply fell to the ground, where she landed with awful finality, a limp, dark bump.

A faint gray light streaked the sky. Clouds, before rendered invisible by the obscuring darkness, were now tinged with a watery golden light as the sun peeked above the tops of the distant mountains to the East.
Cyprien was dead. The tyrant of a world had been destroyed. His limp form still lay on the dew-covered grass, forever still and silent at last. The body that had been taken from the earth nearly a thousand years before was finally permitted to return to it.
Kit looked at Nargshir. The wolf’s fur was matted and damp, and his breath was coming in great panting gasps. His claws were covered in Cyprien’s black blood. It had been a long fight. The others all looked equally worn as well. Larkin, though unhurt, could barely hold his sword any longer; and Cerise had a long cut on her arm. Daniel alone was the only one that did not seem fatigued. As Kit looked at them, he became aware of his own exhaustion. He looked down at his ripped, bloody clothing and sighed.
None of them said anything for what was at least a minute. Hardly any of them had any breath left to speak anyway. The surge of energy that had fed them all throughout the fight was now disappearing, leaving them empty and exhausted.
At long last, Kit sheathed his katanas, being careful to first wipe off the one that had plunged into Cyprien’s heart. He then offered his hand to Nargshir, who had sunk to the ground in exhaustion. The wolf accepted it, and Kit pulled him up. Without a word, he went over to Cerise, who had also knelt on the ground, and helped her up as well. He then turned to the wolf.
“Thank you, Nargshir,” he said, “for your aid.”
“It was the least I could do,” said Nargshir.
Kit then turned to Cerise and the others. “And thank you also for your aid,” he said.
“Anytime,” said Daniel, though somewhat quietly. Kit smiled slightly.
“Now that Cyprien is dead,” said Nargshir, coming up behind him, “what will you do?”
Kit turned to face him. “I will return to Valhalla,” he said.
“How?” asked Nargshir incredulously.
“I believe I may be of some use in that department,” said Daniel, stepping forward and withdrawing a strange device from one of his many pockets. “I can transport you all back there whenever you want.”
There was a moment’s silence, and then Kit turned to the two elves before him. “Larkin, Cerise, this is your homeland, your world. You can, of course, stay here if you wish.”
“We’re coming with you,” said Cerise, as if there was no question at all.
Kit looked into her eyes for a very brief moment before turning to Larkin.
“Ullar needs us,” Larkin agreed.
Kit then turned to Nargshir. “You are more than welcome to come with us as well.”
Nargshir looked surprised and taken off balance. He thought for a moment.
“I will stay here,” he said, looking back up at Kit.
“Are you sure?” asked the ninja.
“Yes,” said Nargshir firmly. “I am needed more here than I ever was in Valhalla.”
There was a pause, and then Kit said, “Very well. I am glad to have known you, Nargshir. I never thought I would become friends with wolves, but you have changed my mind.”
Daniel stepped forward, the strange device held forward in his hand. Kit looked at it, and then said, “Goodbye, Nargshir.” Nargshir raised one paw in farewell.
Daniel pressed a button on the device. There was a blinding flash of light, a sudden rush of sound, and the next moment, Kit, Larkin, Cerise, and Daniel had all disappeared, leaving Nargshir alone on the grounds of Cyprien’s castle.
Slowly, Nargshir lowered his paw to his side. “Goodbye, Kit,” he said.

Ok, so this hasn't been updated in a while. Nor will it be for a while. I'm discontinuing Vengeance until summer, when I can go back and rewrite the whole first book and this one. There are just too many places I wanted to go that I can't because it wasn't mentioned previously. I want to end this a certain way, which I've been trying to hint at ever since I had the idea, but it isn't enough. This wasn't a story where I had the whole plot in mind before it began. I made it up as I went along.

So yeah...Vengeance is discontinued until I have time to do some remodeling.
