I see HeroScape (and describe it to people who ask what it is) as "a fantasy war game," often adding that line about "chess meets Yahtzee." I love that I can play a game in forty minutes rather than five hours (which is what the last game of Johnny Reb miniatures I played took). It is an "impressionistic war game." That's what I love about it.

so you were gaming when 3m was still making games? heh. I have a good collection of 3m games, and old avalon hill stuff. I was not playing in the 60's though.
I started in the 80's. Anyway, I agree with all you said, and just want to add that HS is actually eaiser to get people to try then draggin out, tape measures, thick rule books, codex's, downloads, templates, etc.
