I was sweating it. I will admit it. I had some very high concerns about what the finished product would be. What would it look and feel like once it was in my hands? Would D&D MS 3 be all it could be?
I was concerned for some of the same reasons you all are concerned. Maybe it is just the thrill of opening new Heroscape, but I have done that enough that I should be able to differentiate those emotions.
No, it was something more. There was a definite sense of relief upon opening the box. It isn't that I doubted what Truth, Chris, and Jerry put together. It was just the uncertainty of how it would look and feel.
Well, WotC came through with the polish and quality we have grown to love about Heroscape to go along with all the effort and ideas from Truth and Co.
I am very pleased with the look & feel and what was accomplished in this set. It is so many things all at once that it really is an impressive result given all the roles...

It is funny how passing thoughts can turn into a near phenomenon. It was over 3 years ago when one of these passing thoughts occurred on these forums:
I posted that back in 2006 when I noticed that the Tree Town Open and Hexes in Texas had selected the same day for our fall tournaments. I never thought it would turn into this. Codeman made sure it took off and three years later, we are still going strong with over 500 people competing in over 20 different events throughout the US and Canada.
Most events occurred on the weekend of October 17th & 18th with some happening earlier or later in the month, for what is becoming a month long celebration of this great game. All of the events are a great example of what scapers will do for our...

SO in light of two large tournaments happening on the same day, I declare October 21st national heroscape tournament day and encourage all other groups and factions to also have a tourney on the same day....

The Steamroller has been getting lots of forum debate ever since Grungebob first teased it back in April.
For those they may still not know, it is 3xCapuans, Crixus and Spartacus for 500 pts.
I think it has been largely misunderstood. I think many have associated the hype with it being somehow unstoppable or the cream of the crop. In fact, I contend that if the Steamroller wasn’t hyped so much, the Capuans and the rather obvious steamroller build would be receiving praise at the present, not discounts. I don’t mind saying that I think the Hype created some unrealistic expectations.
However, I offer no apologies for the hype. I think it is justified. Spartacus went from being dust covered to playable with the release of the Capuans. That in of itself is worth applause. I do not wish to change anyone’s mind about the Capuans or the Steamroller. The Steamroller build is just a simple build, a fun build, and at least a some what competitive build....

I wanted to blog about my trip to Kansas City, MO (actually Lee's Summit) for the Hextreme New Year Tournament put on by Kahrma and TOG.
This was a 470 mile drive from Dallas, where I live. I had several instances of thinking, "what am I doing?", "Am I crazy?". Of course I am crazy, I am a 'scaper. The truth is I had the time and gas prices were low; I had enough coin to make it happen and I really didn’t have anything going on that weekend. With my company also giving the day after New Year's as a holiday, I already had the extra day off needed to make it feasible. I did try extensively to get one or two Dallasites to go with me, but had told myself that I was going either way.
I have come to really, really enjoy the spectacle of a Heroscape tournament. Some people somewhat loathe the tournament scene saying it spoils the game and takes the fun out of it. I vehemently disagree with this. To me, the best part of attending a tournament...

Heroscape Units
When I first started playing Heroscape, the Airborne Elite were my favorite unit. Their ability to take over and dominate a game was unmatched. They are still highly capable of such feats and are extremely scary to high cost Heroes, but additional range releases have toned down their overall effectiveness. However, they are still extremely dangerous and respected. Because they do not start on the battlefield, their success is always in doubt. They scream “Be Aggressive!” but their low defense make it a bit of a gamble. The Drop has to hit to even have a chance but even then you have to play them smart to get something out of them.
The Drop is the most challenging part of playing the AE, but without it you don’t have them at all. If you Drop them too close then they may not even get to attack. If you drop them too far then their slow movement hampers their ability to get up and rain down. Drop them on high ground and they are right out in plain view with huge targets on...
