Week@Hsers July 19th

Welcome back to a new installment of Week@Hsers! Today as a special treat we are bringing you an interview of one of C3V's leaders, Sherman Davies. So with out further ado, Week@Hsers!

C3G
Ever wanted to join C3G? Not a great mapmaker? Well here is your chance to get in as an art designer! Simply send in a PM of your recent artwork and an expression of interest to A3n.

Also, prepare to get 'batty' over the new wave release! C3G is releasing in the not to decent future. Wave 12: Legends of the Dark Knight should be just in time for the equally awesome Batman movie (isn't it nice how they time these things ).

C3V & SoV
So do you want to know more about the C3V? Or find a list of important C3V threads? Check out the improved Welcome to C3V thread.
*
Do you want to know what miniatures we will be using next? Check out the C3V Public Miniature Information Thread . This thread lists every miniature that the C3V Executive Review Board has decided will be a future C3V unit. This gets the information to Heroscapers before the miniature availability dries up. Once a miniature is posted, it is guaranteed to be used for a future C3V design.
*
Or are you just interested in what the C3V/SoV has released so far? Check out the C3V and SoV Books of Index. All the links to C3V/SoV approved books are there at your disposal.

Each week, we will be hosting an interview with one of the leaders from C3V's different departments. *This week, we have a master of customs that moved from solo designing to his home in C3V, Sherman Davies!

1. What department are you in?
I'm proud to be a C3V designer.

2. How do units come in to your department?
We have a Brainstorm Repository sub-forum in which any C3V members (not just designers) throw out ideas for new units. Usually these have to be reasonably complete custom units, not just a power or a theme idea, but a unit with a name, stats, powers, tentative cost, etc...

People discuss these units (or not, depending on the existing enthusiasm for the custom, real life getting in the way, or just plain being forgotten due to bad luck) in the Brainstorm Repository, and when/if a member of the Design Team feels like it is ready for an actual Design thread, one of us makes a proposal and we vote. So in a way, we designers have to take the initiative to bring units into our department ourselves.

3. What do you do with them there?
Argue a lot.

Okay, not really (although there have been some serious disagreements, but we're a very civil and respectful bunch). We discuss pretty much everything from the unit's name and theme to its stats, powers and relation to existing units. Some units cruise through this part of the process (especially considering the previous Brainstorming discussion they've gone through) while others sit in Design for longer as they go through more drastic changes.

4. Who else is in your department?
I'm proud to serve alongside Necroblade and dok, two stalwarts of this community.

We also usually have a Public Access Member (PAM) in the Design Team as well, since all but one of the PAMs we've had so far have chosen to work in the Design Department. From time to time, we also will allow a C3V member from a different department to be Guest Designer on a unit he originated.

5. What sort of interaction do you have with those people?
The same kind we all do around here, I guess - posting in threads an private messages. I don't have anyone's phone number or anything, although I've been thinking lately it would be nice to see who's on XBox Live.

6. How do you know when a unit is finished in your department?
*
When we've come to an apparent consensus on the design and no one seems to be suggesting anything new, the Lead Designer usually proposes that it be moved to the next stage, at which point the other designers (PAMs included) vote.

7. What happens to a unit after it leaves your department?

It moves to Inner Sanctum Review, a stage in which any member of C3V is free to comment in the unit's thread and offer their opinion. It is the only stage in which everyone can post in the thread; when a thread is in a particular department, only members of that department, or Executive Review Board (ERB) members can post in it.

8. Which unit is your favorite of all the ones you've released so far?

It's a toss-up between Zaeus and Myrddin. I love Zaeus because I've always loved the Gorillinators and I was glad we could give them a hero to help them out a bit. Plus, the mini is awesome. Myrddin's great because I like the risk/reward dynamic he brings to units with d20 powers.

9. What's your favorite part about working in the C3V?

Simply hearing stories about 'Scapers playing with our units, because it means that they're still playing this game despite its cancellation, and C3V may be a small part of the reason why. This group has given me the chance to give back to a game and a community that has offered me so much, and I'm really grateful.

God, I'm a cornball.

Custom of the Week
This week, we don't just have one custom, we have a lot of repaints! Ninja Status's skill with the brush is evident here with his impressive (and enhancing) changes to the figures.

To see more of his repaints, check his thread here:

Map of the Week

Today we bring you the Flooded Temple by 1Mmirg! A great map that combines aesthetics with fun gameplay, this map is welcome at my gaming table any day! This is not his only great map though, so be sure to check out his others here:

Miscellaneous
Battle Bits Box!
Ever have trouble organizing your order markers and glyphs? Well ZAKOVANI had the same problem, till he had an epiphany about plastic boxes...
Read more here:

Want some Heroscape-styled calenders? Well look no further then AliasQTip's HeroScape calender! He has Maps of the Month, quotes, Customs and more included in his works (almost like us ). The best part is, you can help decide what! So if you have a favorite map or custom, be sure to post it here in this thread, and it may be featured in the 2013 release!

Also, enjoy the wonderful literary talent off TGRF! His first work, The Quest of Valhalla, and his second work-in-progress, The Last Battles of Valhalla, are the first two books of a promising series. The next three parts should be simply amazing!

Thanks for these. Love to see the C3V get this kind of attention. And thanks for showcasing my maps.

I try to do map combos that are less common and often inherently difficult. Right now I'm most excited by Icy Cavern (my attempt to create a tourney-ready map that only uses 1 BftU as the only MS) and High Ways or the Highway (which uses only RotV + FotA). I'd love any comments anyone has on these!
