The Book of Major Q9
The Book of Major Q9 If you cannot see the Army Card graphic, check Hasbro's Unit Page for stats and special powers, plus "character biography" and other non-game unit info. Raknar's Vision - "Heroes of Lindesfarme"
Spoiler Alert!
Character Bio: Visions of a horrific battle play out in the prophet Raknar’s mind. The elderly kyrie lies still, his eyes glazed white, as he narrates the terrible scenario. He tells of a dragon, and of an elf on a winged steed with the head of a hawk. But his face grows pale as a new vision appears, and he stammers, grasping for words: "A wingless man, made of steel, enormous is his stature and girth. From his long arms flow smoke; his lifeless eyes show no mercy as all in his wake are destroyed and fall. Those who reach him with sword and bow find that they cannot pierce this giant’s metallic flesh." Then the prophet goes silent. Sheer terror contorts his face as he utters one last phrase, a phrase that makes little sense to the listener: " . . .Q. . .Nine." Q9 - a favorite of tournament winners everywhere. Between his deathwalker like defense without their glassjaw nature due to his 4 lives instead of 1, and his chance to special attack (thus bypassing a lot of special defenses) up to three times at range per activation, Q9 is a beast. If you're not getting your point value for Q9 just about every game you play, you're either getting extremely unlucky rolls, or you're just plain not playing him right.
I hate this guy, but darn is he good. :P |

Q9 is the one unique hero I have thought of buying doubles for my casual game nights.
I'm frustrated facing this guy backed with Raelin and swarming Reavers. I'm going to start drafting Q9 in the face of Q9. He's become such a tournament figure that I'm personally tired of seeing him on our casual game nights. At one point, many of us were fearing the game turning into Squadscape. The only way to keep Heroes a factor in this game is to give them multiple attacks: Syvarris, Krug, Braxas, Nilf, Q9, Kaemon, DW8K, Brunak, etc. That's fine. That's great, but in my opinoin, Q9 is overkill in this department! |

As I learned at the last Dallas tournament (I don't think they've had another yet) Q9 is far from invulnerable. Revdyer's method worked against me...hmm...come to think of it, it was the Rev who used it against me. Q9 also fell against Krug, who consistantly beats the armor off Q9, in another match-up.

Q9 drives me crazy. It's almost to the point that I find him so tank powerful that I don't use him anymore. The more I see him, the more I find him incredibly boring. I've destroyed whole armies using only Raelin and Q9. I've never played in a tournament before myself, so I don't know much about that department.

I have found that Q9 can be defeated by strong attacking ranged squads. 4th Mass and the AE are my 2 personal favorites. If he has Raelin with him, the task is more daunting, but these guys can still get the job done. Even with 9 defense dice, he's only averaging about 2 shields. Attacks of 3 and 4 are not nearly unheard of. There are also the "bypass defense" methods, like Sharpshooter, Soul Devour, etc....
However, contrary to popular belief, Q9 is mortal (if Soulborg's have mortality...) and he can be disposed of. Like battle reports? Click Tourney Reports (New 10/21/2012 - Cutters / Brutes!) KC's Maps Click KC's Customs Scaper of the Week #57 |

But the fact that we feel the need to convince ourselves that he is mortal makes him one bad MFer Good Traders: Maska, Fallen Templar, Punisher Fan, loborocket, Marduk, Brotharon 324 figures and counting! Q9 never works for me! He takes out half a squad and dies in two or three attacks. he is definately not as good a most people say.
