Engagement and Ice Shard/Quelix
My apologies if this has been answered elsewhere. If Nilfheim is engaged with one figure, can he use his Ice Shard attack to attack this figure and one or two other figures who he's not engaged with? The same question would apply to Major Q9's Quelix Gun. Thanks for the help.

If Nilf (or Q9) is engaged he can only attack the figure(s) engaged with. If you use the special attack to attack the adjacent figure you would have to kill it in order to attack non-adjacent figures.
Same goes for Q9. |

so, assuming your use of "(s)" if they were engaged with 3 figs, they could both use their special to its fullest?

Thanks for the quick response. Two more related questions:
1. If Nilfheim or Q9 is engaged with two or three figures simultaneously, they could choose to attack more than one of those, correct? 2. I'm wondering about Braxas (this all came up in a game we were just playing). If she is engaged, can she use her poison breath against other figures who aren't adjacent, or any combination of adjacent/non-adjacent figures? The argument in favor of that was that poison breath isn't technically an "attack," and so engagement restrictions don't count. What do you guys think? |

Okay, I guess you already answered number one, so ignore that.

Side note: the biggest diff between Nilf's special and Q9's is Nilf cant attack the same figure.
If Nilf doesn't kill a solo enaged figure when he uses special, his attack is over; If Q9 doesn't kill a solo engaged unit, he can fire at the engaged unit again until he uses up all nine of those attack die. |

Just for argument's sake, what make's Nilfs attack different than Mimrings then? Obviously, if Mimring is adjacent to an enemy, if he wants to use Fire Line he MUST attack the adjacent enemy, but can also attack others. Why would this not apply to Nilf?
(I'm asking this mostly for discussion sake, and then I'll give my thoughts). |

Nilf's attack targets figures, and is thus bound by the rules of attacking adjacent figures. |

I agree with your login on being bound by the rules of attacking figures for Nilfheim, and agree he can't do it (for the record).
However, Mimring's attack actually DOES attack the figures, not the spaces: Quote:
I agree that this is how the ruling is, as Mimring attacks them all at once, and if I recall has been specifically ruled that it can attack them all. Nilfheim's, on the other hand, seems to infer that each target is attacked separately, and that is why I would rule that it does not apply on that front. The same would apply to things like Explosion, etc; ie, the way I would explain it is this: If the attacker "attacks" all the figures affected with a single attack roll, then as long as the engaged figure is one of those affected figures you are ok. If each figure is attacked with a SEPARATE attack roll, only engaged figures can be attacked. Thus, Explosion, Grenade, Shotgun, etc, would work even if the "primary target" is engaged, but things like Ice Shard and Quelix Cannon would not Just my opinion, of course. |

That makes good sense, and keeps things consistent. Thanks again for the quick answers.
