Mike: “Ok. My, our banter doesn’t seem to be as lively as Bob and David’s.”

Sock Puppet: “Want me to punch you during the commercial?” (laughs)

Mike (laughs): “I don’t think it would be the same when we do it. Hey, the teams are arriving onto the battlefield, so let’s check out the action!”

Sock Puppet: “Excellent!”

Round 2 – First Battle for Good Teams
Aquaman, Jocasta / Captain America, Black Widow / Batman, Black Panther / Incredible Hulk

Vs. Anti-Monitor.

Sock Puppet: “Captain America selects his five Avengers, who will receive +1 to attack and defense if Captain America has a revealed Order Marker and is within clear sight. That means that one of the team will not be selected. After a massive Rock/Scissors/Paper face-off, Jocasta was left out of the Avenger pool.”

Mike: “Paper may cover Rock, but nobody beats the Sock!”

Round 1
Mike: “Anti-Monitor is getting off to a good start in this battle with initiative. He flies forward.”

Sock Puppet: “Captain America moves ahead.”

Mike: “A-M moves forward, then reveals the X to warp up the mountain to fire down on Cap. Yikes!!! Cap whiffs defense and takes 4 wounds (1 left). His auto shield from his Vibranium Alloy Shield is the only thing keeping him alive.”

Sock Puppet: “Aquaman heads around the big tree. He wants to get into the water.”

Mike: “A-M tries to take down the Cap, but Cap blocks the attack.”

Sock Puppet: “Black Widow holds to maximum range and fires up at the Big Guy. The shot is fired and blocked.”

Round 2
Sock Puppet: “The Avengers get the jump, sending Black Widow forward with her Espionage ability into shadow. Cap dives forward into the shadows and makes a Shield Toss. Blocked.”

Mike: “A-M holds the high ground and fires down at Cap. The shadow helps, and the attack is blocked. A-M reveals the X for another strike. 5 skulls, and Cap whiffs. KO!”

Sock Puppet: “Black Widow grimaces and heads towards the back of the mountain. She fires up and whiffs.”

Mike: “The poor Avengers are having a tough run. A-M decides to head towards Aquaman and fires down to score 2 wounds (3 left).”

Sock Puppet: “Aquaman dives towards the river, then Water Leaps up the mountain stream. He has +2 to attack, defense, and range while in the water. He fires up at the Big Boy and scores the first 2 wounds (28 left). Aquaman rolls the d20 for Hand of the Waterbearer, and he heals 1 wound (4 left).”

Mike: “A-M fires down at the wet one, and one skull simply won’t cut it.”

Round 3
Sock Puppet: “Aquaman with the advantage, but Black Widow first climbs up the mountain cliff. Aquaman Water Leaps higher. He fires across at A-M, but it’s blocked. Aquaman heals 1 and is fully healed.”

Mike: “A-M engages Aquaman and strikes down, hoping that knockback might knock him onto dry land. Aquaman takes 2 wounds (5 left). A-M reveals the X and tries again. Another 3 skull attack, but this is blocked.”

Sock Puppet: “Black Widow hold a nice sniping position at the mountain top and fires down. Whiff, and she’s shooting blanks.”

Mike: “A-M holds his focus on the fish, but Aquaman is proving to be slippery.”

Sock Puppet: “Aquaman swims upstream and leaps to gain height. He fires his water piston down at the startled Destroyer: 9 dice for only 3 skulls. It’s only 1 wound (27 left). Aquaman heals 1 (4 left).”

Mike: “A-M flies up and fires across at Aquaman, but it’s blocked.”

Sock Puppet: “So far, the Avengers aren’t making a lot of progress against Anti-Monitor, though Anti-Monitor isn’t having a lot of luck of his own.”

Mike: “Maybe Black Cat’s Bad Luck Aura is still lingering in these woods. I can’t wait to see what happens next!”

Round 2 – First Battle for Good Teams (cont)
Aquaman, Jocasta / Captain America, Black Widow / Batman, Black Panther / Incredible Hulk

Vs. Anti-Monitor.

Sock Puppet: “Black Widow moves down the mountain closer to put A-M into Widow’s Bite range. This allows her to deliver an extra wound if he wounds a non-adjacent figure within 3 spaces. It’s 3 skulls, so at least we know there are bullets in the chamber. She inflicts 1 wound plus another for Widow’s Bite for a total of 2 (25 left).”

Mike: “Aquaman is still the biggest threat, so the Widow will have to wait. He takes height and strikes down for 1 wound (3 left). He reveals the X and tries to Erase from Existence. No good.”

Sock Puppet: “Aquaman splashes to the top water tile and fires down. 4 wounds will do the trick (21 left). Aquaman heals 1 (4 left).”

Mike: “Rather than break engagement to deal with fishy, A-M slaps up at Black Widow. Her Close Combat Expert gives her an auto-shield, but she’ll take 2 wounds (3 left).”

Sock Puppet: “Close Combat Expert will also give her an auto-skull in melee, but it’s blocked.”

Mike: “A-M delivers another wound against the Widow (2 left).”

Round 5
Sock Puppet: “Black Widow uses Espionage to pull behind Aquaman. She fires down to no effect.”

Mike: “A-M flies to the mountain top and takes out Black Widow with 2 wounds. He reveals the X and delivers a wound on Aquaman (3 left). The strike knocks Aquaman back 3 spaces out of the water.”

Sock Puppet: “Aquaman shakes the sand out of his shorts and dives back into the water. He strikes up at A-M, but 1 skull gets blocked. He heals 1 (4 left).”

Mike: “A-M smacks down into the water and hits for 1 wound (3 left).”

Sock Puppet: “Batman rolls into action. He’s too far away.”

Mike: “That will give A-M another shot at Aquaman, but nothing happens.”

Round 6
Mike: “A-M finally gets the jump and strikes down at A-Man. The two skulls are blocked. He reveals the X and warps down level with Batman. A-M has decided to force Aquaman out of the water if he wants to get into the action. Batman fails his Evasive Strike and takes 3 wounds (1 left). Where’s Alfred when you need him?”

Sock Puppet: “Aquaman had his Order Marker removed.”

Mike: “A-M rolls another 4 skulls against Batman, but the Evasive Strike succeeds, and A-M takes a wound (20 left).”

Sock Puppet: “Batman decides to engage A-M for the most dice. Both are in shadows. It’s a fist of 4 skulls, but A-M responds with 4 shields.”

Mike: “A-M tries to take down the Bat and whiffs.”

Sock Puppet: “Jocasta steps forward to help protect Batman. Her Self-Sacrifice will allow her to take any damage to figures within 3 spaces, and the attacker will also take damage. She fires up, but it’s blocked.”

Round 7
Sock Puppet: “Batman takes a swing. It’s another good blow, but A-M is finding the shields. No damage.”

Mike: “A-M takes a wound breaking engagement with Batman, and he heads towards Jocasta. He strikes for 3 wounds (3 left). A-M reveals the X and has 4 targets to hopefully Erase. Hulk was almost taken out!”

Sock Puppet: “Black Panther moves around behind A-M and strikes. He tags him for 2 wounds (17 left).”

Mike: “A-M strikes Jocasta, and she blocks. Her Repelling Force Field allows her to move the failed attacker the number of spaces based on the blanks she rolls, and she rolled 2 blanks. However, she doesn’t see a need to reposition him.”

Sock Puppet: “Black Panther Stealth Leaps up into the shadows to set himself up for a future Stealth Pounce, which will add an automatic skull.”

Mike: “A-M scores a wound on Jocasta (2 left) and knocks her back a space.”

Sock Puppet: “We’ll take a break and resume this battle later. Stay tuned!”

Round 2 – First Battle for Good Teams (cont)

Sock Puppet: “Black Panther Stealth Pounces from the shadows for +1 skull and strikes down. It’s 5+1 skulls vs 3 shields. That’ll be 3 wounds (14 left).”

Mike: “A-M remains engaged with Black Panther and nudges next to Jocasta to strike her. He takes her down, then reveals the X to warp above Batman to strike. Batman gets his Evasive Strike roll and scores a wound on A-M (13 left).”

Sock Puppet: “Batman is certainly holding his own. He grapples to the other side and strikes, but it’s blocked.”

Mike: “A-M strikes back, and Batman blocks.”

Sock Puppet: “Black Panther dives back into the shadows and strikes up. This doesn’t give him the Pounce bonus. A-M takes 2 wounds (11 left).”

Mike: “A-M takes another shot at Batman, and a whiffed defense takes him down.”

Round 9
Sock Puppet: “Good Guys are taking command! Black Panther still doesn’t get the Pounce bonus due to being engaged with A-M, but opts to remain in the shadow’s defense protection. It’s 4 blocked skulls.”

Mike: “A-M strikes down at the Cat. 6 skulls!!! Black Panther has Vibranium Armor, which gives an auto shield, plus a blank rolled on defense limits damage to 1 wound. It’s 2+1 shields and a blank, so Black Panther takes only 1 wound (3 left), and gets knocked back 3 spaces. A-M reveals the X and warps into the start zone for an Erase attempt on Hulk and Panther. No luck.”

Sock Puppet: “Aquaman decides he’ll have to take A-M on land and moves down the mountain. He’s still too far away, and tries to heal. No luck.”

Mike: “A-M slams down on Black Panther, and BP blocks.”

Sock Puppet: “Hulk decides to get into the fray. He nibbles at A-M’s ankles and delivers 1 wound (10 left).”

Mike: “A-M plays against the odds and attempts another Erase attempt. Hulk and Black Panther survive.”

Round 10
Sock Puppet: “Hulk Smash! He gets 2 wounds (8 left) and knocks A-M back 2 spaces.”

Mike: “A-M fires down at Black Panther for 2 skulls, but the Cat responds with all shields. A-M reveals the X for another shot. The Armor limits damage to 1 (2 left).”

Sock Puppet: “Aquaman charges forward and lands a wound (7 left), knocking him back 2 spaces as well.”

Mike: “A-M decides to forgo the Erase attempts and take them down the old-fashioned way. He fires at Black Panther, hoping to find a chink in his armor. He finds an opening, but only scores 1 wound anyways (1 left).”

Sock Puppet: “Black Panther fails to return the favor.”

Mike: “Armor or not, A-M’s 5 skulls are enough to take Black Panther to the Burt’s Beer Petting Zoo.”

Round 11
Sock Puppet: “Aquaman takes a shot without success, and once again fails his healing. He has 2 wounds (3 left) at the moment.”

Mike: “He’s certainly a fish out of water. A-M smacks 2 wounds on Aquaman (1 left) and flips him back 2 spaces. He reveals the X and finishes the job to take down Aquaman. It’s now Aquaman vs. the Hulk!”

Sock Puppet: “Hulk’s strike is too weak.”

Mike: “A-M scores his first wound on Hulk (6 left).”

Sock Puppet: “That’s not enough to make him mad. Hulk’s fist is blocked again.”

Mike: “A-M slams his own fist into Hulk and lands 3 wounds (3 left). Good news: Hulk is now enraged. Bad news: Hulk is knocked back to the edge of the map, and he will soothe.”

Round 12
Sock Puppet: “Hulk can’t position himself to protect himself from knockback. Hulk rolls 1 skull and a mind-boggling 5 blanks. A-M whiffs and takes a wound (6 left).”

Mike: “A-M strikes and scores a wound (2 left). Hulk will not get to put his Rage into play. A-M reveals the X and strikes again. It’s another wound (1 left).”

Sock Puppet: “Hulk’s attack is blocked!”

Mike: “A-M rolls 4 skulls!!!”

Sock Puppet: “Hulk rolls 3 shields!!! That’s the game!! Anti-Monitor’s record in this round of the tournament is 3-0.”

Mike: “Yes, but the battles were still pretty close. The next Good Team group must now either take down Big Boy, or they must survive past Round 12, Turn 2. We’ll see if they can do it when we go back on the air.”

Yes, I do love me some Anti-Monitor.

This team held out longer than the Bad Teams. However, Superman is coming, and Anti-Monitor doesn't have a Special Attack. It should prove interesting.

Bob: “We’re back, Sports Fans. I’m Bob, returning from break. I’m joined by Mike. Great job reporting in that last battle!”

Mike: “Thanks, Bob! We’ve got our final battle using Anti-Monitor, unless David has further plans for him in the later rounds.”

Bob: “He hasn’t shared any of his plans with me. I’m loving this format, though. The previous group of Good Teams has set the mark at losing on Round 12, Turn 2. This group must either win, or survive past the second turn of Round 12.”

Mike: “What if they lose on Round 12, Turn 2. That would be a tie, wouldn’t it?”

Bob: “Hmmm, that’s a good point. I suppose whichever scored the most wounds on Anti-Monitor would break the tie. The last team scored 24 wounds.”

Mike: “Ok, but what if they both score the same number of wounds? That would also be a tie.”

Bob: “Then we cut to commercial, you bend over, and I shove Anti-Monitor where the sun doesn’t shine.”

Mike: “Then let’s hope for a definitive winner, because that sounds pretty painful.”

Bob: “You’re learning, Mike.”

Round 2 – Second Battle for Good Teams
Atom, Daredevil, Elektra / Hawkeye, Psylocke / Superman / Iron Man Mk IV, Vixen

Vs. Anti-Monitor.

Objective: Defeat Anti-Monitor, or survive past Round 12, Turn 2.

Bob: “Psylocke takes position next to a tree.”

Mike: “A-M flies forward.”

Bob: “Hawkeye advances, then fires a Grapple Arrow to pull himself up the mountain.”

Mike: “A-M takes to the shadows. It’s difficult to imagine shadows concealing such a tall guy.”

Bob: “Daredevil joins Psylocke.”

Mike: “A-M flies forward, then reveals the X to use his Master of Space to warp to the top of the mountain. He fires down on Hawkeye, but Hawkeye blocks the skull.”

Round 2

Mike: “The Big Tall Dude removes an Order Marker from the other side, then fires down on Hawkeye. Hawkeye takes 3 wounds (1 left). A-M reveals the X and takes out Hawkeye with another attack.”

Bob: “Ouch! Hawkeye loses the turn.”

Mike: “A-M moves down the mountainside to fire down at Psylocke, and she takes a wound (4 left).”

Bob: “Daredevil steps ahead of Psylocke and fires up at A-M, but the attack is blocked.”

Mike: “A-M focuses his attention on Psylocke. She takes 2 wounds (2 left).”

Bob: “Hawkeye loses the final turn.”

Round 3
Bob: “Psylocke advances to engage with Anti-Monitor. This will put her Master Martial Artist into effect, which gives her an auto skull and auto shield plus counter strike. She attacks! It’s blocked.”

Mike: “A-M is worried about her counter strike, but he manages to take her down. This is not looking well for this team. A-M reveals the X and warps to the start zone of the other team. He’ll attempt an Erase From Existence, and there are 5 eligible candidates! I’m scared, Bob!”

Bob: “Me, too. Can you see through your fingers?”

Mike: “Oh, that’s a good idea. The highest roll is a 15, and a 20 is needed. Safe!”

Bob: “Daredevil is standing in the mountains by himself, shrugs, then takes position to fire down. A-M takes his first 3 wounds of the match (27 left).”

Mike: “A-M is currently engaged with Iron Man, Elektra, and Superman. Engagement means that he can strike at Elektra or Iron Man and not trigger Superman’s Heroic Duty. That only protects figures from a normal ranged attack. He strikes at Iron Man Mk IV. Iron Man blocks the 3 skulls.”

Bob: “Daredevil fires down with 3 skulls, but A-M makes the 3 shields.”

Mike: “A-M delivers 2 wounds on poor Tony Stark in the Tin Can.”

Round 4
Mike: “A-M removes an Order Marker from Iron Man and strikes him. Blocked. A-M reveals the X and goes for an Erase From Existence! Cover your eyes, Bob!”

Bob: “I am! I am!”

Mike: “Here come the dice! Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope. YES! Vixen is erased from existence!!!”

Bob: “Anti-Monitor has been eating his Wheaties! That’s the second time in this tournament he’s been able to make it work. Superman decides he’s had enough. Since Anti-Monitor has no special attacks, Superman will get to count blanks as shields on defense. Here comes the fist! 1 skull!!! A-M blocks easily.”

Mike: “A-M strikes Iron Man with 2 wounds, taking him out of the game.”

Bob: “Daredevil fires down. 4 skulls! Daredevil has been rolling well in his attacks. A-M only gets one shield and takes 3 wounds (24 left).”

Mike: “A-M tests his might against the Man of Steel. When 2 skulls collide with 3 shields, do you know what you get? A blocked attack!”

Bob: “Superman blushes, as he realizes to his embarrassment that he’s still wearing his Clark Kent eyeglasses. He removes them, hoping nobody notices. It’s 3 wounds (21 left) and 2 knockback spaces.”

Mike: “It looks like it’s up to Superman to save the day! Will his team be able to advance in the tournament? Tune in to find out!!!”

Bob: “Look, Mike! Up in the sky!”

Mike: “It’s a bird!”

Bob: “No, it’s a plane!”

Bob and Mike: “No, it’s…”

Sock Puppet (appears from behind desk): “Me, ready to assist!”

Mike: “I thought you had the day off!”

Sock Puppet: “I do, but this is such a great battle. I see Superman is about to strike. Take it away, Bob!” (exits)

Bob: “We need to give him a raise. Ok, Supes strikes, and one blocked shield isn’t going to cut it.”

Mike: “A-M responds in turn. It’s also a blocked skull. That was weak. I’m certain he’ll reveal the X. Yes, so it’s another turn for the big guy. Another single skull blocked.”

Bob: “Superman knocked A-M out of Daredevil’s range, so Double D will have to move to another spot. Fortunately, he maintains height advantage and fires down. 3 skulls, and Daredevil continues to roll solid. A-M only blocks two and takes 1 wound (20 left).”

Mike: “Maybe these guys have a shot. A-M decides to ignore the Cape Crusader for the moment and warm up with a strike at Elektra. 4 skulls, but Elektra get 4 shields!!! Wow! She gets knocked back to the edge of the map.”

Bob: “Superman moves around, because he doesn’t want to risk knocking the Tall Cool One into Elektra. This attack is better with 4 skulls, but A-M blocks three to only take 1 wound (19 left).”

Mike: “A-M tries to squash the Ant.”

Bob: “That’s Atom, Mike.”

Mike: “Huh? Oh. They’re both pretty tiny. Ok, Atom defends easily against the lone skull.”

Round 6
Bob: “Daredevil fires down, and I’m not believing this. It’s 4 skulls! Daredevil has really been making the most of his 5 attack dice. A-M takes 2 wounds (17 left).”

Mike: “Atom takes a wound from Anti-Monitor, but the second strike from the Master of Space turn is blocked.”

Bob: “Hang in there, Little Buddy! Superman swings, and it’s a solid 4 wounds (13 left)!!!”

Mike: “A-M is getting a bit rattled. He reaches for the 20-sided die. Uh, oh! Safe! Safe! Safe!”

Bob: “Superman is getting his groove back. 2 wounds (11 left).”

Mike: “Anti-Monitor hasn’t lost a battle so far! He slams Atom furiously with only a meager 2 skulls, and Atom whiffs for the KO!”

Bob: “Mike, Atom’s Molecular Irritant ability may be useless against Event Heroes, but I think we’ve seen that he has still managed to get under the Big Guy’s skin. Next round!”

Round 7
Bob: “A-M is still not able to find his way to gaining initiative, and he’s only managed to remove the X Order Marker when he has. Daredevil takes charge and fires down with 2 skulls. That’s his poorest showing so far, but A-M whiffs! 2 wounds, and A-M is down to 9 life remaining!”

David (appears from behind desk): “Ready to assist! Wow, this is one fantastic battle! I can’t take the night off when we’re getting such amazing action!”

Mike: “Uh, I’m announcing, David.”

David: “Sorry, Mike. I didn’t mean to jump in like that. I’m going down closer to the battlefield to watch. This is great!!!” (exits)

Mike: “A-M strikes Superman. Superman manages to roll a blank, which is converted to a shield. However, Superman takes his first wound of the match (6 left). A-M reveals the X and strikes again. 1 shield and 2 blanks blocks the 2 skulls.”

Bob: “Superman swings once again, and the crowd roars at the 6 skulls!!! That lands 5 wounds (4 left), and the edge of the map prevents knockback.”

Mike: “A-M repositions and rolls… oh, NO! It’s the d20! Both Daredevil and Superman are safe!”

Bob: “I think A-M is getting desperate. Elektra charges forward and fails to impress with a blocked skull.”

Mike: “Here comes… no, A-M is grabbing 6 dice and swinging at Superman. 1 blocked skull. If Superman didn’t have Man of Steel to treat blanks as shields, he would’ve taken damage.”

David (off camera): “Stop chatting and get to the next round!”

Round 8
Mike: “A-M finally gets initiative. He rolls the d20, and I think we all know what that means! It’s safe. A-M reveals the X and strikes Superman. Superman blocks all 4 skulls without using any blanks!”

Bob: “Supes got knocked back one, but moves back and lands a wound (3 left) on Anti-Monitor!”

Mike: “A-M chances the Erase! Safe, but I think Superman trembled a little.”

Bob: “I don’t blame him. I’ll need a change of underwear when this is over. Daredevil fires down. 4 skulls. Unbelievable! Anti-Monitor blocks 3 and takes another wound (2 left).”

Mike: “A-M desperately tosses the 20-sider. Nothing.”

Bob: “A-M removed Superman’s Order Marker. Next round!”

Round 9
Bob: “My heart is pounding. Superman is first to strike, and 4 skulls. Anti-Monitor rolls the 20-sided die, and gets 12 shields. Wait a minute!!! Ok, here come the dice… 3 shields! That’s 1 wound (1 left). The crowd is on their feet, and David is jumping up and down yelling advice to Anti-Monitor. Hey, whose side are you on?”

Mike: “A-M takes to the d20. Nothing. He strikes Superman. 2 blocked skulls fails.”

Bob: “Daredevil has been nailing A-M. He fires down, and it’s a blocked skull.”

Mike: “A-M roars loudly as 4 skulls collides with 6 shields.”

Bob: “Superman grits his teeth and fires a ferocious 6 skulls. A-M rolls, but goes down as the crowd rushes down to the field to congratulate the winning team.”

Mike: “Ok, that concludes this round of our Battle Bites tournament. Hey, David! What’s next?”

David (enters): “Hi, Mike! Oh, we’ll have another exhibition battle featuring more C3V figures, and we’ll have some Matt Helm designs in the mix as well. Where’s Nurse Rechet? We need someone down on the field to help Anti-Monitor!!!”

Those of you who have followed my battles know that I love to try new things. Here is my idea for the next round of my C3G Battle Bites Tournament:

I will play the four scheduled battles, but I will withhold posting the results until August 22. I would like to invite any interested parties to join in and play any of the match-ups. Feel free to play one or more battles. Send me a PM listing which team won, which map you used, and please provide a paragraph summarizing the battle. It doesn't have to be elaborate. If you're feeling frisky, create your own Burt's Beer slogan as well.

I will accumulate the results, and this will determine which team advances. For example, if 3 people (including me) play Team Kraven vs. Team Rhino, and Team Kraven wins 2 of the battles, the overall score will be 2-1, and Team Kraven will advance. In case of a tie, I will fight the battle again to determine the overall winner.

Please have your results in by August 21. You may send me the results individually as you play or together as works best for you.
