Play Heroscape Online
Posted October 4th, 2012 at 11:05 AM by truth
Sign up for the upcoming online Heroscape event here with the top prize of the winner's choice of Aquilla's Alliance or $100 to spend at Auggie's Games.
Over the course of the past several months, some major advances have brought online Heroscape from a cumbersome exercise to something that feels very close to playing in a live game. Here's a brief introduction to the system.
How does online Heroscape work?
Online Heroscape is played through a web-based interface that was primarily developed by Filthy the Clown. This interface allows players to place and reveal order markers, roll randomized virtual dice, and have those results displayed in a chat window. At the same time, the actual pieces are moved around on a shared google drawing (an approach pioneered by Kinseth).
This video explains the basics. It is recommended you watch it in fullscreen mode, so that you can see the details.
This video that shows you an example of actual game play. As you can see, it works very well, and flows at about the same speed as a face-to-face game of Heroscape.
How can I give online Heroscape a try?
Anyone can put together their own game and play at any time. To do this, you first create a Google drawing and import a map and figures (this thread has ready-to-go map images, and this Google drawing contains images for most figures, as well as links to docs with more figures). Then, you simply go to the online app and set up the game.
However, you can also play in the upcoming online Heroscape event. For this event, the gameboards will be set up in advance, so all you need to do is schedule your matches and play!
How does the online tournament work?
First you sign up in the Online Heroscape League thread. Then each week for five weeks you will be paired up with another player in our Swiss format tournament.
We've mentioned the top prize above but Auggie's Games gift certificates will also be awarded to the second place player, and randomly to two players who finish out the season. No matter where you place, you may win a prize!
So consider joining us this season. We're a friendly league with players from all skill levels, so there is no reason to be be shy, and you might just walk away with Aquilla's Alliance or $100 of Heroscape merchandise.

Shafizele,
In the app, where it says "Google Doc String," you need to put in the bolded part of the address of your map: https://docs.google.com/drawings/d/18sRGd-C0IzIwWFpUqcCQ5UPBnY-5AjJfgBURgJ0GXKo/edit However, if you join the league, all of that stuff will be pre-set so you will just click the provided link. |

Only one game per week. So, you could play on the weekends. At least that's what I'm going to do.
