Wave D3 Week 1 Preview: Death Knights of Valkrill
Welcome to preview Wednesday! Sorry I'm a bit late this week!
Those that have been around the site know that we’ve been trickling out info for the past few weeks. Here are some highlights:
1. In this pack, the new Valkyrie General is revealed! He was introduced in the 2nd Dungeon Adventure: The River of Blood and now he’s ready to start summoning his minions to fight for his ruthless agenda! Valkrill is here…
2. We’ve revealed the names of the figures, and which Generals summoned them.
Pack 1
The Horned Skull Brutes fight for Valkrill
The Death Chasers of Thesk fight for Valkrill
Pack 2
The Ogre Pulverizer fights for Utgar
The Mezzodemon Warmongers fight for Valkrill
The Death Knights of Valkrill fight for Valkrill
Pack 3
The Frost Giant of Morh fights for Utgar
The Ice Troll Berserker fights for Utgar
The Master of the Hunt fights for Einar
Pack 4
Evar Scarcarver fights for Vydar
Eltahale fights for Jandar
Siege fights for Vydar
and Moltenclaw fights for Utgar
Now, to reveal the Death Knights of Valkrill:
The Death Knights of Valkrill were one of the first Valkrill squads we designed. As one of the new 2-figure squads (the Mezzodemon Warmongers are the other), we wanted to set an exciting standard with these guys. They needed to be strong, and they needed to be feared on the battlefield.
The key points with Death Knights are their soul weapons. Death Knights are warriors who choose to come back and fight on, even after death. A death knight carries its soul in its weapon. This weapon has the power to become ghostly and pierce armor as if it was not there.
To that end, we designed their Soul Weapons first:
SOUL WEAPONS
Figures attacked by a Death Knight of Valkrill subtract 2 from their defense dice. Destructible Objects are not affected by soul weapons.
And because Death Knights are usually leaders on the battlefield, we wanted to give them a form of bonding, but to what? We toyed with a few ideas eventually deciding that the relentless Heroes would be the focus of their Unholy Bonding.
UNHOLY BONDING
Before taking a turn with the Death Knights of Valkrill, you may first take a turn with any small, medium or large relentless Hero you control.
This allows the Death Knights to bond with the following figures: Air Elementals, Dumutef Guards, Khosumet the Darklord, Sir Hawthorne, Taelord, and the Venoc Warlord.
And here is their Army Card, the first for Valkrill, the newest Valkrie General!
Have fun overanalyzing them this week, and have even more fun proxy playing Death Knights X5 + Taelord and a few Dumutefs!
Come back next week as we reveal the first of 3 new sculpts in the wave: Jandar’s Eltahale!

Wow, these guys sound really sweet. Can't wait to try them out!
Edit: I love Valkrill's card! It seems kind of undead themed. It reminds me of mummies. |
