The Book of Raelin the Kyrie Warrior
The Book of Raelin the Kyrie Warrior
Rise of the Valkyrie - Master Set Character Bio: Raelin the Protector, Raelin the Kindhearted, Raelin the Valorous; this beautiful, benevolent Valkyrie is called many such names by her loyal followers. A native of Valhalla, Raelin enjoyed a carefree and adventurous youth; then the war began, and her abiding friendship with Jandar bound her to his cause. To the relief of friendly forces, Raelin will often swoop into the the throes of battle and, striking the ground with her magical Spear of Gerda, engulf them in a shimmering blue force field. The warriors within this aura are instantly protected - even from Mimring's ferocious Line of Fire. Raelin cannot be thrown by Jotun.....a quirky little bonus that some folks overlook.

She helps everybody but the ones who benefit the most from her aura are: Sentinels, KMA, WoA, Crixus, all samurai, and Charos.

Raelin has been singled out by Craig Van Ness as the unit he considers to be the most powerful in the game.

She has quickly became one of my favorite units. I guess the reason this thread isn't that long is because there's nothing bad to say about her.
When I first got Braxas and tried out Migol's tomb against my friend, I went with Braxas, Raelin, and AE. I don't think I lost any models. |

Do you think he did it on purpose, or is it simply something that has become apparent as the game has evolved?

Re: The Book of Raelin the Kyrie Warrior
I feel as though Raelin is one of the better figures for 80 points. She has no range, which I prefer, but her defense bonus can be quite annoying for opponents and her flying insures she will stay keep you figures protected well. When combined with ranged units such as Syvarris, or other weaker defense heroes, their longevity increases and they become that much better. When combined with heroes with average to higher defense, the figures in her aura become tanks, and she becomes a good distraction as well. While opponents try to take out Raelin and her defense aura instead of the figures with 6 to 10 defense, you can focus on the opponents would be Raelin assasins, or if they try to attack the higher defense heroes, they may have a harder time taking them out. She's not that bad of figure on her own merit either, with 3 attack and defense and 5 lives she can hold her own in a fight, especially if she has height. Overall, I find Raelin worth the 80 points she costs, her aura, and flying are notorious, and her distraction value adds to her value. Trying to kill anything becomes harder, from smaller base defense to bigger, and even on her own she can hold her own. Try to keep her back as much as possible, but don't be afraid to attack with her when possible.
Sorry for ranting, but this is my opinion. Strong arms and sharp steel rule this world. Never believe any different. |

Re: The Book of Raelin the Kyrie Warrior
She must have been a really hard one to price out and balance in creation... With hindsight, and in my humble opinion, she would have been perfect with the following change at 80pts.
All figures within 1 or 2 clear sight spaces add 2 to their defense rolls....all figures within either 3 or 4 clear sight spaces add only 1 to their defense rolls. This seems more in line with fitting in at an 80pt cost. This lends some credence to the idea that she was intentionally made the most valuable - perhaps to underline the Valhalla-centric nature of the game? Quote:
