Gallery etiquette question…

OK, I have printed many custom cards off this site to use for personal use. I have found that the old Gallery re-sized cards perfectly, without text distortion from shrinking a card. In the past I used the gallery’s “private” function to scale the cards to the correct size. I would download an individual’s custom to the gallery, so I could then re-save it and print it off with PAINT.

With the new Gallery, there is no “private” function, so I would have to download another individual custom card to the gallery, to get it re-sized.

So here is my dilemma…

Is it proper to just site the source material, and download the copy OR should I contact the original creator and ask permission to download their property to the gallery for others to use.

In both instances, I will always state where the custom idea came from and who the author is.

I just need some feedback on what would be appropriate.

Thanks…

-ZB

I'm not sure I completely understand what you are doing. It seems that in some instances you are saying "download" when you mean either "upload" or "copy". But here are my thoughts.

Since the cards you want to print are posted in the site's gallery there certainly is no issue with printing a copy for yourself. It sounds like the issue is simply you having to jump through some hoops to get the card to print correctly.

So I would suggest you do whatever you need to do to print out the card, but then go back and delete any copies that you made to your own gallery or other parts of the gallery. That way if someone else wants the card, they will find it in the creator's gallery and he/she will get the credit.

Just my opinion.

Re: Gallery etiquette question…

Sorry if I was not clear.

What I did when others would post their customs on this site from other sources ( IE photobucket) is save the image to my computer. Then I would upload it to the old gallery and then re-save it to my computer, so it would be sized correctly. This way I did not distort the text by shrinking the card. In the old gallery I could do this without stepping on toes, but in this new gallery without a "private" folder, I worry about upsetting others here.

Would it be a problem if I uploaded customs to the gallery that are other member's ideas? ( As long as I give credit to the author of course)

As far as I'm concerned, this would be perfectly acceptable. Just be sure to 'credit' the creator when you upload the image. You could even PM the creator a note that you uploaded the file here, just as extra C.Y.A. ...I don't see this causing any problems - so go for it.
