My pop got TFA on Blu Ray for his birthday and we watched it again for the gazillioth time. Still just as good as it was in theaters.

To ne, it's just a nice action movie with tons of great effects. It's not deep, not overly original, not great acting, but fun for what it is. Replace the Star Wars brand/characters with non-brand and unknown characters and I think there'd be a different reception by a lot of people.

you are probably right...non Star Wars people may like it and Star Wars people would be middle of the road.
Would I want it to be everything I love...sure...but that's just not realistic so I'm going to focus on finding things that will make me unhappy and work on fixing those.

A good barometer would be to ask what folks thought of Serenity.

(I wish Green Lantern had been more of a Space Opera ....).

It was scary for its time. But considering how much other material has come out since, it's not the same as if seeing it when it first came out and there was relatively limited scary stuff previous to it. Also, some people are freaked out more about possession and the devil than others, just like some people get freaked out about other things that others might not.
