RIP Ruth Bader Ginsburg
She was one heck of a woman and battled through so much.

Devastating. She was a righteous soul from a better time.

Re: RIP Ruth Bader Ginsburg
This is really terrible news and it's making an already tense socio-political situation worse.
The current Justices are John Roberts (Bush Sr.) 65 years old Clarence Thomas (Bush Sr) 72 years old Stephen Breyer (Clinton) 82 years old Samuel Alito (Bush Jr) 70 years old Sonia Soromayor (Obama) 66 years old Elena Kagan (Obama) 60 years old Neil Gorsuch (Trump) 53 years old Brett Kavanaugh (Trump) 55 years old 5 of them are conservative and younger. Three are not conservative, but one is 82. President Donald Trump has until January, at the very least, to nominate a new Justice. Mitch McConnell has confirmed that the person will be approved by the Republican controlled Senate. With the current political climate, it's completely possible that a new Justice will be nominated and elected within the next month. It's also likely that Donald Trump will wait and use this as a tool to bring more Republican voters out. Barring defection, there will likely be a 6-3 Conservative majority, and going by pure statistics, we're set to lose another more liberal Justice within the next few years. If Donald Trump wins 2020, it's very likely that this will end up at a 7-2 for decades. Unfortunately, I don't think that is a Spartan "If." Whether you are for or against either political party, you should not be happy about such a majority. It is bad for the country to be so one sided, we are not made to be so one sided. It's also bad to fall into tribalism, as people aren't just defined by their political affiliation, but that's another conversation for another time. Be polite: Don't put politics or religion in your signature! Last edited by The_X_Marker; September 18th, 2020 at 10:44 PM. |
