If he has really good powers and no Defense, he will be a prime target.

0 Defense just doesn’t feel right to me here. That reads to me as “puts in 0% effort to defend themselves” like Jason. The Doctor puts a lot of work into his own survival, he just happens to be in the body of an older man.

In my mind, this is the original Doctor, but he’s also very much still the rookie Doctor. Flanking Strike Scheme is already giving him a really cool and unique strategic role, so I think I’m going to update with that, Delicate Health, and Lasting Wisdom. I’m open to more tweaks/switch-ups as other people get their hands on him though.

Sounds good. He's a soft target and Flanking Strike Scheme is a useful power, so I imagine at some point someone will try to take him out early and make the other two powers relevant.

After revealing a numbered Order Marker on an Army Card and taking a turn with that card, you may reveal an "X" Order Marker on this Army Card to choose up to two figures you control without the Super Strength or Flying special powers and move them up to 4 spaces. After moving those figures, you may roll an unblockable attack die against a figure engaged with both chosen figures. Figures moved with Flanking Strike Scheme will take any leaving engagement attacks and must be within 4 spaces of the Doctor before moving.

DELICATE HEALTH
At the end of each round, if this card has any wound markers on it, roll a single attack die. If a skull is rolled, place one wound marker on this card.

LASTING WISDOM
When the Doctor is destroyed, you may place him on the Army Card of a Unique Hero you control without the Super Strength or Flying special powers. When that Unique Hero rolls Combat Dice for anything other than a special attack, if the Doctor is on that figure's card, you may choose to re-roll 1 die. Then, if that Unique Hero is not a Gallifreyan Wanderer, remove the Doctor from their card.

Alrighty, updating with these changes. He had 2 big wins in initials, but he's also getting some decent nerfs here, so I'm going to keep his price as-is for now.

Units: The Doctor (1st) (90), The Doctor (11th), Batman (II) with Smoke Pellets, Bat-Grapple and Bat Shuriken and Rip Hunter (700) VS Captain America, Bucky, Sub-Mariner, Human Torch (700)

Damage Dealt: None directly.

Flanking Strike: Dealt 2 wounds to Cap with Batman and Rip Hunter.

Delicate Health: Added one wound to the Doc to kill him, which I wanted to boost 11.

Lasting Wisdom: Placed on 11. Rerolled a few times, generally got a better result so this power was rather useful.

Lead out with Batman, Rip and First (how I will refer to Doc 1 in this). Batman and Rip were able to engage Cap and deal him a couple wounds with Flanking Strike during round 2. At the end of round 2, Rip rescued Batman who had 3 wounds and First died to his delicate health so I placed him on Eleven. Rip and Eleven had to survive this round to get back Batman. Rip was able to finish off Cap at the start of round 3 and then take down Bucky by the end of the round while Sub-Mariner advanced. Batman came back ready to clean up. Eleven and Rip were able to team up and take down Sub Mariner, with Eleven getting some good rerolls. Human Torch had to take on Eleven with 2 wounds and Batman at full health and was only able to finish off Eleven.

Lasting Wisdom: Placed on Eleven again, rerolls were generally not as good as last game.

This game didn't go quite as well for the Doctors as last game. I did land a couple good Flanking Strikes, and Batman was able to take down Hawkeye early, but from there it just kinda fell apart for the Gallifreyans.

THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY: Nice little support unit. I like how his buff worked on Eleven. 90 feels just about right to me.

Batman and Jason were doing well on the d20 in this one, and the Crime Fighters couldn't quite overcome it. Felt like it might be close for a little bit, but they just couldn't bring Batman down. (Despite Miles and Dagger teaming up to take out a bunch of OMs)

The Doctor tacked some movement/unblockables onto Batman's turns, which was nice. Low success rate on the unblockables though. Movement was used early on and came in handy a bit, but his team didn't need the movement as much once they were in place, since they managed to nab some good spots.

Unit Summary:

• Flanking Strike Scheme: used 5 times. Rolled 4 unblockables, dealt 1 wound to Songbird. Got Batman and Robin a jump out of the SZ, moved Jason to height one time, Mostly just moved a couple figures 0 spaces and rolled an unblockable though.

Kind of a mixed bag for Catman; going up against a Ninja build meant he wasn't getting his free Big Game Tracker moves, but he did have some soft targets for Outlaw Motivating. Ended up being a pretty close game; Deadshot folded in just a couple attacks, despite defending from height, which is really what made the difference.

Doctor helped slingshot Deadshot to height early-on here, but didn't get to do any unblockable damage. Still, those auto-skulls are killer, so he was an asset in bringing down Elektra quickly. Catman couldn't quite bring down his prey, Cheshire, though, and she shredded the Doctor pretty handily.

Unit Summary:

• Flanking Strike Scheme: used 2 times. Got himself, Catman and Deadshot a jump out of the SZ, Deadshot to height. Rolled 1 unblockable. Dealt 0 wounds.

THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY: I like him as a cheap figure-mover. He's not as standout as some of C3G's cheap-o utility figures, but that's probably a good thing. He does feel distinctive. The no-SS and Flying restrictions push him away from some of the usual free-move candidates, which is cool.

I don't think Lasting Wisdom needs the SS/flying/SA restrictions when it's a one-and-done for non-Doctors. I know I've brought some of that up before and I'm not arguing that it's unthematic as-is, I just think it's kind of in the weeds. (Plus I like elegance on an iconic old-timey character like this).

Oh and could/should the "you control" in LW be an "in your army"? Y'know, time stuff. (And it'd be nice if it Just Worked™ if you had some kind of regeneration scenario going and you wanted to plop him on an upcoming Doctor's card)
