Fate's powers didn't actually happen here. He rolled a 17 at the start of the game, but it was never actually needed. His team won every initiative, so he couldn't swap it there, and he didn't want to give Mr. F a 17, so that just sort of sat there. Re-organizing wounds was never a good play either, and the opponents targeted/prioritized Fate which he can't move his own wounds. Overall, he was a non-factor. We'll see how a different matchup works before adjusting anything.

Yeesh. Not sure what to do, as Fate just seems easily defeated with 5/5 + Magical Defense, and his other 2 powers seem to be situational to the point that he's struggling to really make them any sort of big power play. The Fighters overwhelmed his team and they fell apart at the seams.

Doctor Fate unwounded.

Pretty crazy and fun match. Came closer than I thought it would given the 2 Psylocke auto-kill Psychic Knife rolls on Gamora and She-Hulk thanks to the assist from Fate. Fate's army definitely felt very solid with each unit providing a major addition to the team's success, but once one fell, each become that much less effective. So very cool. Definitely on a better path.

Very busy match with lots of craziness and fun. Fate is definitely proving more useful with the lessened restrictions.

This is to reign it in just a hair, and bring more of a strategic element to when to swap so it doesn't lose it's sense of importance. 7 being a generous amount to not feel super limited/stingy (I only used it 7 times that mattered in the previous game, and about 9 in the game before that, both of which felt like a lot and worth drafting him for).

One of the most fun matches I've ever played. Absolutely nuts. A super clutch play that kept Thor alive and their team in the game eventually leading to the victory in the end.

THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY:
Although it took a bit of work to get it feeling just right, I ended up having some of the most fun games after the changes. The things you can make happen with Fate are truly awesome. In the last game for instance, he had a banked 19 waiting for Thor to use for GoTS. However, Thor was beaten down to 7 wounds, and he had been stuck by Mr. Fantastic preventing him from capitalizing with GoTS. Round was over, it was time to decide how to proceed to even have a chance at coming back. Fate puts OM1 on himself in a last ditch effort for Mystic Order to get wounds off Thor. He ends up rolling a 1 for initiative, swaps out his 19 to cause the initiative win, takes his turn, fails his roll for Mystic Order but then swaps in the 1 to succeed, then brings Thor down to 2 wounds while bringing Thing up from 0 to 3 and Fantastic from 0 to 2. Just crazy what all had to go right for that to happen, and it completely put them back in the game for them to go on to end up winning. I also love that Fate's attack damage totals were minimal, it was all magical maneuvering that caused his damage while helping his allies. Feels spot on. Cost wise, he could probably come up a tad to 360 and we'll see how he handles in public testing.

Seems like he needs some self-wounding allies or allies that are harder to ignore to go after him.

Tactically, it seems like maybe he got into the action too fast in the first game? Since he wants your allies wounded before he gets involved, he's more of a second wave character (assuming you pair him with high life figures that can take a bit of a beating without falling).

Edit: Guy Gardner is one worth trying, since he gets value out of self-wounding and his Green Power Shield can help him stick around a bit more reliably.

Doctor Fate’s initial role for Twist of Fate was three. Abomination dealt the first wound of the game to Juggernaut in Round 1. In the beginning of the second round, Flash dealt one wound to Doctor Fate with his Fist Fusillade. Juggernaut then attacked Super-Skrull and dealt four wounds to him. Super-Skrull dealt one wound to Flash. Doctor Fate used Mystic Order, and Twist of Fate to switch the three with the rolled twenty, to take 2 wounds away from Super-Skrull and put one on both Flash and Juggernaut. Doctor Fate attacks Juggernaut to deal three wounds. Somewhere in between here I used Twist of Fate to tie initiative, but it didn’t work because my second roll was lower than my opponents. Flash used Fist Fusillade to deal two wounds to Doctor Fate. Super-Skrull rolls all four skulls against Flash, who rolled no shields or blanks, knocking him out. Doctor Fate deals two wounds to Juggernaut, knocking him out. Rocket Raccoon dealt two wounds to Abomination. Doctor Fate dealt two wounds to Rocket Raccoon. Doctor Fate receives one wound from a bomb destroyed by Rocket Raccoon. Abomination deals two wounds to Rocket Raccoon, knocking him out. Doctor Fate deals one wound to Doctor Octopus. Wonder Woman was set as Mongul’s champion. Doctor Fate’s initial roll for Twist of Fate was one. A wound was dealt to Black Knight with Mongul’s Warworld’s Orbital Assault power. Doctor Fate’s Twist of Fate was used to switch Fate’s one with my opponent’s nine for initiative. Wonder Woman deals one wound to Doctor Strange. Wonder Woman deals one wound to Doctor Strange. Doctor Strange deals two wounds to Wonder Woman. I used Twist of Fate to switch my opponent’s initiative of 16 with my 9. Black Knight deals two wounds to Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman deals one wound to Black Knight. A wound was dealt to Black Knight with Mongul’s Warworld’s Orbital Assault power. Doctor Fate used Mystic Order to take one wound off Wonder Woman and one wound on both Black Knight. Doctor Fate deals two wounds to Black Knight, knocking him out. Wonder Woman deals one wound to Doctor Strange. A wound was dealt to Doctor Strange with Mongul’s Warworld’s Orbital Assault power. Iron Man deals one wound to Wonder Woman. Iron Man deals one wound to Wonder Woman. Doctor Fate used Mystic Order to take three wounds off Wonder Woman and onto Iron Man. Doctor Fate deals one wound to Iron Man. Iron Man deals three wounds to Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman deals one wound to Doctor Strange, knocking him out. Doctor Fate’s Twist of Fate was used to switch a rolled 1 with 16 for Mongul’s Warworld’s Orbital Assault, wounding Iron Man, knocking him out. Doctor Fate deals one wound to Alfred. Alfred deals one wound to both Wonder Woman and Doctor Fate, knocking Wonder Woman out. Doctor Fate is now Mongul’s champion. Alfred deals one wound to Doctor Fate. Doctor Fate deals one wound to Alfred. Doctor Fate deals one wound to Alfred, knocking him out.

THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY: Doctor Fate’s cost seems pretty reasonable considering the fact that he can basically control d20 rolls, rearrange wound markers, and can only take one wound at most per attack. Doctor Fate is definitely draftable as he worked pretty well with both of my armies, in my opinion.

GENERAL THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT: Considering that the second game caused my opponent to flip the table in TTS twice, I like Doctor Fate a lot. All three of his powers put together are just great. It may have been the units I put him with, but I still really like the way he played.

Not the most optimized teams, but fine results. To be fair, a lot of his key allies in the JLA are still on deck.

He also played Fate at 40 points cheaper (320) in game 2. So there’s that. But yeah, he said he had a blast and loves the design when he messaged me so that’s cool at least, and the games were fairly close.
