Re: Heroscape 2nd Edition is here!

The reason there's so much criticism, and even oft-repeated, is because the campaign is a flop of a campaign, there are a LOT of us who are passionate about HS and want to see it return, and we recognize that without some major adjustments like the ones we're pointing, this thing is going to fail. The longer it goes on, the more irritated we get. And yeah, I have every right to "gatekeep" if they want my $250--Hasbro doesn't tell me what to spend my money on, I tell Hasbro what I will spend it on.

This is ALL, 100%, on the Hasbros.

I don't even really know who they're marketing to.

Newbies? The ridiculous, all-or-nothing starting price point and lack of ANY pertinent information about the game tells me "No."

Veterans? Trying to sell us more of the same terrain and game components most of us have bins full of and forcing us to buy factions we may or may not want, and worst of all, hiding the SotM 2.0 heroes behind impossible backer totals, screams to me also, "No."

This says to me Hasbro is really in it ONLY to make money. This isn't a passion thing or a good will thing. And it's incredibly stupid because they could be making money hand over fist if they did this right.

I say keep the criticisms coming until they make substantial changes.

Can't stand his gatekeeping negativity tbh.
Thanks for queuing that right up to the AoA part.

A must read for all 'Scapers!

Re: Heroscape 2nd Edition is here!

When the original Sonic movie trailer released fans complained about the design of the character, and the company bit the bullet and changed it. This was the right move, the movie did fairly well, and a sequel was made which means them making the alteration was a worthwhile investment. Looks like a third movie is on the way

Hasbro is a big company, and can certainly afford to bite the bullet and make changes to ensure the survival of the game. If this gets off the ground and runs for another 4 years, they'll have made their money back and much more.

I'm happy with the contents of the game, and prefer to have new factions included, but certainly come course correction is warranted with this crowdfunder and any potential future sets

Hasbro’s blunders are on them. There’s no doubt about that. But this site is for building and maintaining a community, and mostly what I see here is just toxicity. I get that many of you don’t want to hear this, but you guys are responsible for your own attitudes and you’re responsible for how this place is perceived. That’s on you.

This is true for all of us, including you, GB. Please look at yourself in a mirror and read what you wrote back to yourself.

How much information do you think they should reveal?
Nearly all of it? If you want to keep a couple fancy units secret, fine. But by and large we should know nearly everything. Sure those guys might do a good job, but asking me $250.00 for "trust" rather than showing the game doesn't fly with me, and many people who back crowdfunded games. I never had a full collection of old stuff either, I bought the stuff that excited me and didn't waste money on stuff I knew I wouldn't play. I didn't have tons of disposable money, and still don't. I want to make sure I like nearly everything in the box before I throw away a big chunk of a paycheck.

Now substitute nearly every pronoun of "I" or "me" to any backer who isn't a hardcore fan. If there was a Kickstarter for a game from a company I barely knew and I didn't get information aside from commenters saying "Just trust them, they're good people," I'm not even going to give it a second glance. That's why I'm being negative, this raises every red flag of a bad kickstarter that doesn't get backers. I want this to succeed. Hopefully it still will. But at this rate it's barely going to make anything, and almost assuredly not going to make the cool stretch goals.

I'm coming it from the perspective of a completionist, so I want all of the official stuff, but that isn't going to be the case for everyone. In regards to C3V, I'm only buying the units I like rather than everything so I can relate your approach in that regard.
Offering a smaller $100 set with fewer contents might have been less profitable from an economy of scale perspective, but I think Hasbro should have just bit the bullet and structured the crowdfunder in that way to allow more people to get involved. Playing the long game would be a smarter move, I don't think it was wise for them to swing for the fences right out the gate by trying to get 8000 people to be all in on a $250 set.

Of course. I’ve been silent about this for a long time. Today I decided to bring it up in the toxic thread where it will be swallowed up with everything else. I’d much rather you guys direct your anger at me.

Re: Heroscape 2nd Edition is here!

I am still a bit surprised by how many of the old Heroscape players don't like the new factions however; I'd understand if a Warhammer player doesn't buy this set because he doesn't like the clockwork combine, and I'd understand why a DnD player wouldn't buy the set because he doesn't like the Ironclad or Nemesis War Brood, but the variety offered here seems too fit the theme Heroscape has always held.
I'd have included traditional human pirates to bolster the historical side rather than only sci-fi pirates, but by and large this set still has the variety of Heroscape

I really respect you and the other long-time contributors that have given so much over the years. I've been on Heroscapers for longer than my account says because I had to make a new one, but I've seen all you and the others have done for the last dozen years or so. Amazing and so much appreciated.

While I haven't contributed in that way, I like to think I've contributed by continuing to play, continuing to collect, and by introducing several others to HS over the years.

Again, I think the criticisms are valid because we are so passionate about HS, but it's wrong of Hasbro or anyone else to think we should just take our medicine and like it. $250 is a HUGE ask for a lot of us. If they want our money, they should demonstrate that in concrete ways. I suspect many of us will keep offering our opinions and ideas until they demonstrate that they're actually listening and not just throwing us a bone ("Pick a card, any card, but we reserve the right to ignore your choice.")

I encourage fans to keep speaking up until the Hasbros make a change. Namely, offer us an on-ramp, some tiers, and some choices via add-ons. And for heaven's sake, lower the stretch goals. Those are the figures we REALLY want.

Was hoping for a better reaction from Tom Vasel. He seemed really not interested, but he's probably going to buy it just because he buys everything lol. Not really the recommendation needed, and he seemed annoyed by the badgering to look at it.

Upset City Baby.
