Really hope San Fran destroys the Packers.

I hope so too. The potential super bowl matchup of Chiefs vs the 49s would be so fun to watch.

Re: Sports: NFL
I guess it's because coaches have a tendency to make more extreme game plans, but playoff games often set records for strange things. The Ravens/TItans game was historic in how little the Ravens got out of a lot of offense. Never in NFL history has a team gained as many yards as the Ravens (530) while scoring as few points as they did (12). It's also the second time in history that a team has outgained their opponent by that many yards (230) while being outscored by this much (16), and the other one involved three defensive scores. All in all, that was a very unusual game. That said, I thought the Titans did an incredible job of implementing a game plan and taking advantage of opportunities. I've thought Tannehill is underrated for a while now, just because the Dolphins were so bad.
On that "weird stats in the playoffs" note, I've suggested to others that Henry could very easily break the record for rushing yards in a playoff loss this weekend. Quote:
More insane is that the AFC starting QB in the Super Bowl was either Brady, Manning, or Roethlisberger in 15 of the last 16 seasons. It's the end of an era. |

Who was the other one? Flacco?

Re: Sports: NFL
Yep. 8 Brady, 4 Manning, 3 Roethlisberger, 1 Flacco.
By contrast, Wilson and Eli Manning are the only NFC quarterbacks in that stretch to have even made it twice. |

Re: Sports: NFL
Regarding the yards the Ravens got in that game against the Titans, there seemed to be a bunch of garbage yards. The Titans seemed to be playing lose in th second half, where they gave up plenty of yards but toughened up closer to the red zone. It allowed the Titans to eat up the clock even when the Ravens had the ball.

Yds Result 44 Interception 20 Downs 2 Punt 59 Field Goal 91 Field Goal 68 Downs 68 Downs -5 Fumble 39 Interception The final quarter was certainly not all "garbage time," but you are correct that there was more urgency during it. Those drives were as follows: 83 Touchdown 69 Downs 60 Downs Drives of the lengths of the first three quarters should have, by any metric, under normal circumstances produced more than 6 points. But that is all they produced, for reasons you can find for yourself in the second column. It is oversimplifying to say that they earned most of their yards while the Titans were "playing loose" in the second half. Also, what you call "playing loose in the second half" included a play in which Hayden Hurst was running open and just never looked for the ball, though it hit him in the chest between the numbers. And all he would have had to do was fall down to be in the end zone. Surely that was not part of the Titans' plan. I'm not saying the Ravens did enough to win; obviously they repeatedly shot themselves in the foot. The Titans played well enough to win, and the Ravens did not. But there are a number of false narratives circulating on the internet, and this (that all the Ravens' yards came in garbage time) would be one of them. |

265 yards worth of drives ending on downs. That's amazing.

Re: Sports: NFL
Right, but being a Bears fan, I have seen plenty of 3 and out drives. So most of those Ravens drives got them a decent amount of yards but not points. What I meant by loose is that the Ravens could get yardage but not score so much. It happened for various reasons, but still happened and part of how the Ravens got so many yards.
As far as garbage yards, that is term I refer to when a team is getting more aggressive because they are behind. Don't run as much but pass a lot. So sometimes the yardage doesn't reflect the end result of the score or effective play of the team. The Ravens had a lot more drops than usual. There were other mishaps too. But that happens and usually the scores reflect that. Heck, the Falcons **** the bed vs the Patriots in that Super Bowl. Seahawks should have run it in with Lynch instead of attempting to pass for the touchdown. Mistakes are costly. Re: Sports: NFL
They had not failed to convert 4th and 1 one time all season. Then they did it twice Saturday night. Their overall conversion rate on 4th was around 70%.

Re: Sports: NFL
Sorry your Ravens are out, DS. What a historic season for them. I've never seen anything like what the Ravens can do with Lamar Jackson running the offense.
That said, I'm two games away from a weird proposition. Grew up in the Bay Area and still a die hard Niners fan, yet living in Nashville and having adopted the Titans as a rooting interest, I am potentially facing my two top teams facing off for all the marbles. Really looking forward to watching some football this weekend.
