Indeed....every group has horrible representatives. As with most things in like, the 5-10% dicks ruin everything for the 90% that could happily figure out a way to live with each other.

I highly recommend reading "What's So Great About Christianity" by Dinesh D'Souza. It does a wonderful job of expanding on Pete's point.

Don't worry, I did it for both of us. That was exactly the point I was trying to make: You can't condemn an entire religion based off of the major screwups of people doing things in its name. Christianity= peaceful, loving, and philanthropic. Various Christians throughout history, not so much.
Like JS said, all we can do is attempt to be better Christians and avoid the things former Christians did wrong, namely coming across as angry, fearful, and backwards people who act on those feelings.

I'm not sure I agree with this. Christianity has tended to grow fastest when believers were not free to safely congregate (even when the persecution was from "fellow Christians"!). This was true during significant periods of Christianity's first few centuries, and continues to be true today. There are more believers killed for their faith in Christ today than at any other time in history.
