Can you fix a scrached game disc?

I was just wondering if their are any household fixes to scrached video games, because my brothers have scrached both of my Gran Turismo 4 discs. And its my favorite game!! Thanks!

Whenever one of my games is scratched I go right to the Windex. Spray a little bit on and wipe it with a paper towel, but be careful not to get any on the inner circle. If the scratches are on the inner circle then you may need to resort to an actual disc cleaner.

I'll try Windex, and I have a disc cleaner, but in my personal openion, it makes the disc worse.

BestBuy used to sell a $20 hand-held device called "Disc Doctor" which works great. It had other names too, like CD Doctor, DVD Doctor, etc. I've had it for years now, still use it, and highly recommend it if you can find one.

If the scratches aren't too deep (and sometimes, even if they are) you can use toothpaste to sort of buff them out.

Not sure if "buff" is the right word, but it makes them work.

I had a small, quarter inch scratch on my Gears of War disc that gave me a read disc error right at the cut scene for the last chapter. I took it into an indie music store and paid $2 to have it resurfaced. That may be a cheap option.

If the scratch is deep enough to alter the foil layer its shot... otherwise some forms of scratch remover should work...

This usually works pretty well. If you know guys with recording studio equipment or that just work with a lot of audio stuff, they might have one of these machines.

My local independent video rental store has a machine. I suppose it works on scratches that haven't cut into the metal.

I have had luck with toothpaste. Not the minty gel. Just the standard chalky type. And don't try the sparkle type!

Toothpaste- Didn't work

Windex- Mom doesn't have any

I'm going to try and put it on to a new blank disk useing the computer, but I have to get a DVD 9 disc.
