Re: Kolakoski’s Pre-SoV Custom Corner
Well met! As far as SoV is concerned, should I be testing Captain Xuè with AoA pirates? |

Re: Kolakoski’s Pre-SoV Custom Corner
Well met! Modified names of powers. Hjordis Muirgen General: Valkrill Demon, Unique Hero, Bard, Merciless, Medium 5 Life 4, Move 6, Range 1, Attack 4, Defense 4 Evil Eye Aria When any small or medium Valkrill figure within 4 spaces of Hjordis Muirgen rolls defense dice against a normal attack from a non-adjacent attacking figure, all excess shields count as unblockable hits on the attacking figure. Evil Eye Aria does not affect Hjordis Muirgen. Singing Sword Special Attack Range 1, Attack 4 When Hjordis Muirgen attacks with Singing Sword Special Attack and inflicts a wound, roll a 20-sided die for Singing Sword Special Attack additional wounding. If you roll a 1-9, the defending figure receives no additional wounds from Singing Sword Special Attack. If you roll of 10-19, add an additional wound to the defending figure's Army Card and roll again for Singing Sword Special Attack additional wounding. On a roll of 20, destroy the defending figure. Chorus of Torment When Hjordis Muirgen is destroyed, before removing her from the battlefield, roll the 20-sided die once for each opponent's figure within 4 clear-sight spaces of her. If you roll a 1-10, place one wound marker on that figure. If you roll an 11-20, that figure becomes a Singer. Roll the 20-sided die once for each opponent's figure within 4 clear-sight spaces of a Singer. If you roll a 1-10, place one wound marker on that figure. If you roll an 11-20, that figure now becomes a Singer. A figure can only be affected by Chorus of Torment once per turn. When all dice for every figure Singing the Chorus of Torment have been rolled, remove Hjordis Muirgen from the battlefield. Points 140 Last edited by kolakoski; August 4th, 2023 at 10:51 AM. |

Banshe's Bidding The Banshe is a harbinger of death. And it gives her back a Celtic touch.

Re: Kolakoski’s Pre-SoV Custom Corner
Oh, interesting. Was this supposed to be Celtic? That type of information is important when considering power names.
I'm not sure I love the connection to banshees, though, because (unless there is something I don't know, which is likely) that's not consistent with the way that other singers join in. There is, however, a middle ground: Keening Lament. "Keening" evokes an Irish mourning song, and in fact a "keening lament" is something associated with banshees, though you avoid the problem (as I see it) of calling them out directly. |

Re: Kolakoski’s Pre-SoV Custom Corner
The custom started out as a historical Irish pirate chieftess, who supposedly met with Queen Elizabeth in London.

Well met! Now she is primarily Chinese. Her mother was Irish, though. |

Re: Kolakoski’s Pre-SoV Custom Corner - Pirates!
Well met! Found this while looking for gunslinger minis. He's carrying a matchlock rifle. He's from Pathfinder, what else? I have no idea what would be appropriate stats/powers from an SoV standpoint, especially as he's listed as an Elf Magus, but he sure looks cool. Maybe he could be an alien/space pirate? From Wikpedia: "The classic matchlock gun held a burning slow match in a clamp at the end of a small curved lever known as the serpentine. Upon the pull of a lever (or in later models a trigger) protruding from the bottom of the gun and connected to the serpentine, the clamp dropped down, lowering the smoldering match into the flash pan and igniting the priming powder. The flash from the primer traveled through the touch hole, igniting the main charge of propellant in the gun barrel. On the release of the lever or trigger, the spring-loaded serpentine would move in reverse to clear the pan. For obvious safety reasons, the match would be removed before reloading of the gun. Both ends of the match were usually kept alight in case one end should be accidentally extinguished. . . . "A later addition to the gun was the rifled barrel. This made the gun much more accurate at longer distances but did have drawbacks, the main one being that it took much longer to reload because the bullet had to be pounded down into the barrel." Taking a shot at it: An Utgar Elf Wizard!? Craven Farwhisper General: Utgar Elf, Unique Hero, Wizard, Merciless, Medium 5 Life 5, Move 5, Range 1, Attack 3, Defense 2 Magic Matchlock Special Attack Range 10, Attack 2 + Special When Craven Farwhisper attacks with Magic Matchlock Special Attack, add 1 to Craven Farwhisper's attack dice for every additional Elf Wizard you control within 3 clear sight spaces of Craven Farwhisper, up to a maximum of +3 dice. If you reveal the "X" Order Marker prior to attacking with Magic Matchlock Special Attack, you may add a maximum of +3 dice to your attack regardless of the number of additional Elf Wizards you control within 3 clear sight spaces of Craven Farwhisper. Points ??? Even if rejected by the other Elf Wizards, he can still shoot effectively once a Round. An Alien Space Pirate!? Craven Farwhisper General: Utgar Plejaren, Unique Hero, Pirate, Merciless, Medium 5 Life 5, Move 5, Range 1, Attack 3, Defense 3 Plejaren Matchlock Special Attack Range 10, Attack Special Choose an opponent's figure to attack and roll a 20-sided die. If you roll a 1, the Plejaren Matchlock misfires and the Plejaren Matchlock may not be used for the rest of the game. If you roll 2-9, nothing happens. If you roll 10-19, the chosen figure receives a wound. If you roll a 20, destroy the chosen figure. If you reveal the "X" Order Marker prior to attacking with Plejaren Matchlock Special Attack, you may add 1 to your roll. Points: ??? Last edited by kolakoski; August 7th, 2023 at 04:29 PM. |

Re: Kolakoski’s Pre-SoV Custom Corner - Testing?
Well met! I'm hoping that this is a good test environment. Tentative armies and pairings for testing: 140 Buccaneers x 2 130 Calibrax 120 Captain Xuè 10 Otonashi 400 points, 11 spaces 160 Warforged x 2 120 Agent Skahen 110 Laglor 10 Isamu 400 points, 11 spaces A couple of melee/range balanced armies. To a certain extent, the Warforged will also screen the Buccaneers. 120 Captain Xuè 100 Dorim, the Bulkhead Brawler 100 Agent Carr 80 Dreadnauts of New Tortuga 400 points, 6 spaces 130 Kee-Mo-Shi 110 Rhogar 90 Myrddin 60 Deadeye Dan 10 Isamu 400 points, 5 spaces Gotta have the Dreadnauts of New Tortuga if you're gonna have a Pirate army. Captain Xuè will be their designated Captain, with Agent Carr as First Mate. Drafting a First Mate for Captain Xuè is challenging. Imagine Heracles as First Mate. In this scenario, that would leave 80 points for the rest of your army - which is just what the Dreadnauts of New Tortuga cost. Putting all my eggs in one basket like this scares me. I'm inclined to use Vydar heroes (must be small or medium), so as to take advantage of Black Flag with them. There are not that many that make sense. P.S.: Gotta have fun! Thus, among other things, the Myrddin-centric army. |
