NorCal ADAT (All Dungeon All the Time) Tourney: APRIL 14
Folks, our next Bay Area / Northern California tournament is ON!
Saturday, April 14th. At Ronin Games, in Castro Valley. Start at 11am. THEME Theme will be ADAT: All Dungeon, All the Time. I.e., we'll be playing on a bunch of dungeon maps I like, including the three winning maps from The 1x BftU Challenge, which was created with this tourney in mind. Other maps will include a single expansion (TJ, VW, TT, RttFF, or FotA). So the common denominator is the BftU set. Dungeon and Shadow, baby, Dungeon and Shadow. Who knows. Maybe the Drow and Mika will finally feature in a winning tourney army. MAPS If you can help out and provide one of these, please holler. They're all small and easy. The glyph pool (for maps which don't specify particular glyphs) will be: Wannok, Valda, Dagmar, Kelda, and Lodin. If a map you're providing features random gylphs, please bring those five as the pool.
Spoiler Alert!
PROHIBITED UNITS Four units are utterly banned: no Raelins (both versions), no Rats (Deathreavers), and no Zelrig. Mainly because we'll be playing on tight, compressed maps. But I hate Raelin and Rats anyway. Heck, I'd prohibit them even without the map excuse. Also, no Marvel or C3G. All SoV and C3V units released before March 9, however, are fine, even encouraged. (That includes Tyrian, the Zombie Hulk, and the Zettian Infantry among the SoV; and all the C3V units of Wave 14.) ARMY SIZE 720 points standard 24-hex starting zones With huge armies on tight, compressed maps, and no Raelin, Rats, or Zelrig, this should be pretty interesting. Remember though folks: Huge figures do not get the Shadow defensive bonus. Large ones do, but not Huge ones. Plan accordingly. Join the competitive 720-point army discussion. FORMAT Five rounds, Swiss-style tournament. Winner to be decided by win/loss record, with ties broken first by SoS (strength of schedule), followed by points killed. PRIZE Prize will be NIB Shades & Orcs. Currently goes for about $60 - $65 on eBay, so hopefully will prove a good lure. Includes the Shades of Bleakewoode (a fun but not very competitive unit). But more notably, also includes the Heavy Gruts, one of the best melee squads out there. (And unlike many common squads, they're worth owning/fielding even if you only have one of them, since they fit seamlessly into a Blade Grut army.) BRING Bring the standard stuff: Order Markers, Wound Markers, and Dice. Plus a pen/pencil. And, of course, your 720-point army. Also, since there is no registration fee for this tourney, bring that saved money and spend it on stuff/food/drink at Ronin Games. It's nice of them to host us, and it takes a lot of money to keep a game store running. So help make sure they're still open when our next tourney comes around. ATTENDEES Can you make it?! If so, drop a post in this thread and we'll add your name to the Book of Life here. The more the merrier. 1. Typhon2222 2. Killometer 3. cmgames 4. Carnival Man 5. Carnival Boy 6. Re: NORCAL / BAY AREA tourney in April: what date?
Saturday. Nothing more specific than that yet.
TL;DR: I put a lot of thought into my posts. Please read them before responding, even if they seem long. I try to make my posts useful and worth the time. Like NERVs? Try my new app! - My customs |

Re: NORCAL / BAY AREA tourney in April: what date?
Are you still planning Legacy, or is straight Dungeon the new theme?
I'm 100% flexible regarding the date. |

So, seems that Saturday, April 14, is the best date so far....

Re: NORCAL / BAY AREA tourney in April: what date?
Not sure yet, Ziggy. I can see several options:
(1) Every map is a simple 1x BftU. (would be very unified set of maps, tight, fast-playing) (2) Every map uses only BftU, no expansions; but some might use 2 sets instead of being limited to only 1 set. (i.e., 2x BftU) (would allow some larger maps while still featuring nothing but terrain in the dungeon set) (3) Every map uses 1x BftU and not more than 1; but some might use a single expansion as well. (e.g., 1x BftU and 1x VW/TT/TJ/RttFF/FotA) (would allow slightly larger maps and more variety) The problem witih #2 and #3 is finding appropriate maps. We have LOTS of great options for #1, thanks to The 1x BftU Challenge contest. But maps using a single dungeon set and a single expansion seem really rare. I've created Ice Thistle and Shangri-La along those lines, but don't know of others.... Last edited by Typhon2222; January 26th, 2012 at 12:52 AM. Reason: added links. |

Re: NORCAL / BAY AREA tourney in April: what date?
And a follow up to Z's question-will there be expansions used in some of the maps, or will all maps be made out of only Dungeon sets?
Edit: 'd. I guess I'll go look around and see what's available for each option. I know GameBear's Coastal Caverns fits #3. Not sure about the rest. |

Re: NORCAL / BAY AREA tourney in April: what date?
1x BftU
Spoiler Alert!
2x BftU (5 so far)
Spoiler Alert!
1x BftU + 1x expansion (9 so far)
Spoiler Alert!
Sooo, except for option #1 there's not a whole lot floating around. If it's opened up to include 2x Bftu + 1x expansion then we'll have a whole lot more to choose from. Last edited by Killometer; February 14th, 2012 at 09:23 PM. Reason: Robber and I will wear you down eventually... |

Re: NORCAL / BAY AREA tourney in April: what date?
Something that I realized will be a limiting factor in map selection is the number of BftU's we'll have available. I have two.
