Fun with History
So I felt like learning something and I Googled "Parmenio" and "Sacred Band." While I couldn't find anything connecting the two as mentioned in their Heroscape bios, I did find information about their real-life counterparts.
I found a couple sites that told about the men, but their Wikipedia entries kinda tie it all together in a more convenient manner. Apparently Parmenio was a skilled mathematician and architect as well as a military general, having helped construct part of Alexandria. I guess it would be safe to assume that Einar snatched Parmenio up just prior to his execution for the treasonous assasination plot he wasn't actually guilty of participating in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parmenion As for the Sacred Band, I can't find anything that says they were assembled by Parmenio himself but they were around in the same time period. Apparently, they were also assembled as homosexual couples, as it was a commonplace practice in Greece at the time and it was believed that lovers would fight more fiercely and passionately alongside their beloved rather than with a regiment of strangers. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sacred_Band_of_Thebes That's the Sacred Band of Thebes, but apparently there's a Sacred Band of Carthage too. I'll read that one over and see which one these guys might be; neither one mentions Parmenio, so I'm sure that much is fantasy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sacred_Band_of_Carthage As for the IX Roman Legion, I thought it was cool when I read "Disappearnce of the IX Legion," but apparently we know what happened to them; they got their butts handed to them by the Picts. All the same, they were a real Roman Legion. But I think Marcus Decimus Gallus is entirely made up. Here's what I read, though there is no entry on the IX on Wikipedia that I've seen http://www.albawest.com/IX-legion.html We all pretty much know the roots of Sgt. Alexander and his crew, surely a decent bit about the Templar, but what other interesting tidbits of historical knowledge might you have dug up about the less-publicized historical units summoned to Valhalla? |

Wasn't the sacred band defeated by Alexander the great? Just thought I heard that somewhere, perhaps the history channel.
It's back and stronger than ever. Check out my Einar vs. Utgar Chapter 2 |

Well, Izumi and Kozuke are both old Provinces in Japan, while Tagawa is a district.
Which is cool. They put some detail into the Samurai Clans. JOHNNY139'S CLASSIC CUSTOM THREAD! | Visit now!
