Re: Heroscape Philosophy 101
You guys are awesome, so let me see if I can summarize what we have argued so far.
The wellsprings appear periodically in Valhalla history (Ryougabot) signalling another Ragnorak (1Mmirg). The end of each of these wars signals the beginning of another cycle of time, a new history will be started (SpartanNinja). Recognize, of course, that time on Valhalla may not correspond to any precise moment in time on the Earth or the other worlds they are drawing heros from (Roland). Alternatively it could be far in the future, and the generals are simply drawing the greatest heroes from the histories of all the worlds for their battles (Kroc). To go to a more fundamental level the world is in a constant tug of war between Order and Chaos (SpartanNinja), and after each war the following universe is more Ordered or Chaotic depending on how the war turns out (Kroc). And last but not least, do not forget that The B.I.V. was the person who first asked the question that started it all, where did the wellsprings come from? Pretty cool, and pretty solid as far as I can tell. While we have not disproved the malevolent beings theory I feel our theory fits much more tightly with the references to Nordic mythology in the game. Of course, if I may comment, I hope that we---like Commander Sheridan (B5)--can tell the forces of both order and chaos to go stick themselves. While we all know that "order" = "good" and "chaos" = "evil" we all know that a good society can only exist with a proper balance of order and chaos. Would it be a better world if we had one totalitarian government? A government that ended all disagreement by imposing a way of thought and religion from one central authority? That would be the epitome of order. By the way, if you have not watched Babylon 5 your nerd index (braveheart101) is way too low. It is well worth the bad acting and often horrible script writing to see a serious contribution to science fiction in a television series. I just wish Season 4 didn't actually represent the climax of the series. |

Re: Heroscape Philosophy 101
Resparking this debate with the following quote from the Master Set 3 Rulebook: Scenario 4 The Ancient Sanctum.
"The dragon writhes in pain and rage as it declares, 'This is not over. The sanctuaries of the ancients spread out under the surface of this land like a web. Their knowledge and power will belong to Utgar.'" I think this proves the hidden force pulling tye strings here. |

Re: Heroscape Philosophy 101
My head hurts...
The sad part is, I actually followed most of that. Another note that seems to have been missed: at what point was it said that warriors could be summoned only at the point where they would have died? I know that Jandar chooses to do this, what stops Utgar from just summoning at will? Last edited by Zorgophlats : Prenember 86th, 2079 at 42:96 ZM. Reason: enasni eht stalhpogroz |

Re: Heroscape Philosophy 101
THE CHAS HEROSCAPE DICTIONARY
Archkyrie: The strong individual ego who is able to actualize his ambitions to act. See Nietzche; a superman. Common Hero: And individualist who likes to work independently, but has yet to differentiate himself from his fellows. Common Squad: Egos under the discipline of another, who have not yet set their own individual goals. Fate: 1. Negative Inertia: If you cannot rise above your own psychology, which is your own individual combination of many Greater Forces, you are doomed to be overpowered and enslaved by them. 2. Positive Self Actualization. The evolutionary process of creating and reaching goals through discipline and strategy. See Archkyrie above. See also Thomun. Thomun: Odin, the Strategist. Note eyepatch. AKA the original Archkyrie. Time: The stage for action. In Norse myth, he is Jormungand the World Serpent, with his tail in his mouth, forming an endless loop of cycles. See also Hinduism (for connection, see Aryan). Uncommon Hero: An ego who has begun to know itself, but is still mostly at the whim of internal programming and inertia. Unique Hero: Someone clearly on the path to individual self actualization (see Fate #2). Valhalla: In Norse myth, Odin's Hall of the Chosen Heroes. Here heroes selected when dying on the battlefield by the Valkyrie battle all day, only to rise again and party by night. They are to be Odin's troops in Ragnarok, the Final Battle of All Time (end of a Cosmic Cycle--see Hinduism). Note that this is only one place souls may come to rest in the mythology; they may also be chosen by other Deities and be part of other streams of souls. See also Freya, Hel. Wellspring: the means to take action through individual power. Source Unknown, clearly from a Higher Plane outside the merely physical Universe. (DICTIONARY INSTRUCTIONS: Want to know more? For further information, type in a word or term you wish defined, or search yourself online or off). Last edited by chas; May 11th, 2010 at 06:25 PM. |
