Re: The Book of Sandman (William Baker) - Design
Okay, I was just thinking about something. I don't know if I'm digging Sandman being able to be moved by Web Slinger or Lasso etc, at least not automatically. I mean he can turn to sand dust and there wouldn't be anything to grab onto with webs or Lasso.
How about something like this? Quote:

Great write up tickle!
I like what you're thinking Hahma. Makes perfect thematic sense. Could probably draw from Immovable for text. |

Re: The Book of Sandman (William Baker) - Design
It is a good power, but I don't think the write up needs the added complexity, and I don't think that Sandman needs to have a D20 chance of avoiding being moved. That seems less iconic/important than Superman having Heatvision.... and Superman I didn't get it either.

Maybe just Immovable, then? Hahma's right that it would be thematically wrong for Spidey or anyone else to be able to toss him around since he's ... well, insubstantial.

Re: The Book of Sandman (William Baker) - Design
Looking at that Density Control special power from Vision, it really is perfect for him. I hate to say it, but I'd rather see that on him than the Sandstorm power and just give him Flying.
Also, Insubstantial already is a power from the D&D Phantom Knights. Quote:

Re: The Book of Sandman (William Baker) - Design
I don't know GP, I understand the Density Control being appropriate, but I'd kind of rather have him different than Vision in that regard.
I like Sandstorm a lot as it represents how he can kind of Mr. Fantastic-like stretch, as well as the way he can kind of smother or batter people in that sandy form. Immovable would be the simplest way to represent his being able to be insubstantial and it wouldn't add any complexity to the design really. I just re-read the issue of Spider-Man where he first runs into Sandman and Spidey either couldn't hurt him because his punch would go through him, as well as police bullets after he robbed a bank, or Spidey would nearly bust his hand when Sandman turned solid like rock. The only way Spidey defeated him was to trick him into turning into sand in the basement of the highschool and then Spidey used an industrial vacuum to suck Sandman up. Another issue where Spidey and Silver Sable were getting their butts kicked by Beetle, Speed Demon, Hydro-Man, Rhino and Boomerang at Coney Island, Sandman (being reformed and not a bad guy any more) came to their rescue and kicked the bad guys arses just as they were going to finish Spidey and Silver Sable off. Re: The Book of Sandman (William Baker) - Design
Yeah, I do think he's probably the most powerful of the original six.

Re: The Book of Sandman (William Baker) - Design
I like what you have here, tickle! The only suggestion I have is that I was going to allow him to place sand tiles (as Magma does with Lava tiles) so that he would potentially get that boost on any map.
Semi-Retired C3G Hero (and first Official Member of the C3G Target Audience!) The correct way to add C3G playtests to posts. My favorite day EVER on heroscapers. Re: The Book of Sandman (William Baker) - Design
I really think Density Control is the best fit for a third power if we go that route. If you try to shot him from range, he should just turn to sand where you hit him and then reform.
A perfect fix would be to let Sandstorm negate Density Control for the rest of the round after he used it. So if we add any power like Immovable, Sandstorm should negate it for the rest of the round to let Spider-Man sling him around some. |

Re: The Book of Sandman (William Baker) - Design
This is what I'm looking at right now:
NAME = Sandman SECRET IDENTITY = William Baker SPECIES = Mutate UNIQUENESS = Unique Hero CLASS = Criminal PERSONALITY = Vengeful SIZE/HEIGHT = Medium 5 LIFE = 5 MOVE = 5 RANGE = 1 ATTACK = 5 DEFENSE = 5 POINTS = 210? SANDSTORM Instead of his normal move, Sandman may use Sandstorm. Sandstorm has a move of 3. When counting spaces for Sandman's Sandstorm movement, ignore elevations. Sandman may move over water without stopping, move over figures without becoming engaged, and move over obstacles such as ruins. When using Sandstorm, Sandman will not take any leaving engagement attacks. Sandman rolls 3 fewer attack dice on any turn that he uses Sandstorm. Sandman cannot use Sandstorm if he starts his turn on a water space. After moving with the Sandstorm special power, roll one unblockable attack die against all figures Sandman passed over this turn. After rolling for Sandstorm, Sandman cannot use his Density Control special power for the remainder of the round. SAND CONSTRUCTION Sandman rolls two fewer attack and defense dice while on a water space and two additional attack and defense dice while on a sand space. After taking a turn with Sandman, if he is not on a water space, remove a Wound Marker from this card. DENSITY CONTROL Sandman can move through all figures and obstacles such as ruins, and is never attacked when leaving an engagement. Sandman cannot be targeted by opponents' non-adjacent figures for any attacks or special powers that require clear sight. Sandman may not be moved by any special power on an opponent's Army Card. SUPERSTRENGTH EDIT: Threw this on the template and it's too much text. At the lowest settings, it only fits without any extra space between the powers. So going with Immovable is probably the best fix here. |
