I was kind of thinking about doing that myself, but I don't have a ton of time. I don't see why we should make a new version though. Anyone can update it, and it's already indexed.

The reason I suggested a new index is because if you go back and look, it seems a mess, and without an admin to edit some of the posts, I think it would work a lot better if we just started a new one. I'm going to have a good bit of free time this week, so I could help out.
Hey guys. Has been awhile. My computers internet was not working and I had college work that I had to catch up with. I sure now that I will be paying attention to the challenges now.

Congrats on the win SoA. Bring on the Prompt!
Good to have you back Bro-man. As for the prompt, look no further!
The warrior awakens in a barren wasteland, alone and wounded after a great battle. The only survivor, this warrior must find his/her/it's way back to friendly forces. Care must be taken, for fell creatures are rumored to roam this desolate region of Valhalla...
Might as well be the first. Well here is mine. Enjoy!
Spoiler Alert!
I woke up with a sudden shock. Pain ached inside head and my entire body. My chest was heaving and I realized that I had a body lying over me. I pushed the body off and I realized it was an Anubian wolf. My mind flashed back to the battle hours ago. I remembered the Airbourne and knights and they were fighting against the Gruts. We were doing well until the Anubian wolves came in force. We were ordered to retreat when I was tackled by one of the wolves. I fired at it when we hit the ground and I was knocked out cold. I stood up and came out of the ditch. My eyes squinted from the light. When they adjusted I looked around and saw the carnage from the battle. Hundreds of knights were scattered across the field of battle. However there was five times that many for the number of Gruts that were killed as well. I looked up to the sky and it was getting late. I knew I had to get back. I grabbed my tommy gun and my pack and headed east. I knew I was close to the borders of Ullar. Hopefully I can get to them before night fall.
A full hour had came by and there was still no end to the battle that was waged. Ocassionaly I would see the bodies of fellow Airbourne troops. I searched each one for rations, ammo, and took there dog tags. Knowing full well that the bodies won't be found until much later and by then the birds of the air would have eaten everything. I looked up to the sky and saw dozens already decending down for there meal. It sickened me to think about it. I continued to walk when I heard the birds screech out. I turned and saw a figure off in the distance, heading my way. My eyes widened and I looked for an open ditch. I spotted one nearby and went in. There were many bodies that were scattered around, both Gruts, Knights, and Wolves. I lifted the body of one of the wolves and placed myself underneath it. I placed its large claw on my face and after it was done I was silent. I waited until I heard the sound of running feet ponding the ground above me. It stopped. I slowed my breath as I heard the sound of heavy breathing, right above me. the creature sniffed the air then jumped onto the other side of the ditch. My breath stopped and I saw the wolf looking around, searching. It turned and I saw a small cut on its side. The blood was dry yet it looked like it could burst at any given moment. Its eyes turned toward the ditch. My eyes were wide open and I didn't even blink. I thought he was starring at me the whole time yet I was not sure. A deep growl came from his chest and I thought I was going to die. It looked at the ditch for a minute more, then took off. I breathed a sigh of relief, I waited until I could no longer here its foot steps. After what seemed likes hours, but lasted only a few short minutes, I lifted the body up and got up out of the ditch. I checked the sun and it was begginging to set. I noticed storm clouds rolling on in. I had to find shelter if I am to last through the night.
I had made it to the edge of the forest when the rain began to pound down on me. I ran inside the forest but it was quite thick and I couldn't find my way through without bumping into trees. The rain continued to pour down when I finally found a suitable location to rest. A large hollow that went down under the tree. I stopped at the entrance and lit a lighter. I looked inside and the hole was just my height, and enough room to sleep without getting into a cramped position. I went inside and settled my things down on the ground. With the help of the lighter I started a small fire right in the middle of the hollow, making sure it didn't catch any of the sides of the tree on fire. After I got a nice small fire going I took my pack and my wet cloths, wearing only the pants and a white t-shirt. I laid them out next to the fire to dry off and I began to searched through the pack. I found old dried food. I shrugged and began eating. The taste was awful, becasue of the rain, some of the food was just terrible, even the dried biscuits were like lumps of coal but I ignored the sight and continued eating. I saved the best for last however, some longs strips of beef jerky. I took a piece and placed it in my mouth, savoring every flavor in before chewing. I placed the rest of the Jerky back in the pack and began to stare at the fire, warming myself from the small flames, which almost seemed to dance in a endless cycle. I opened the pack again and picked up the dog tags. I counted twenty in my hand, so name I even recongized some of the names. I placed them back in the pouch and I looked outside of the hollow. The rain continued to come down. Thousands of droplets were coming down, I thought I was inside a waterfall. I looked back at the fire and fed it a few more sticks, as the dancing flames consumed the new bark, continuing their long endless dance. As I continued staring my eyes at the fire, they soon became very heavy and my waking dreams would soon awaited me.
I was awaken from a sudden shock. A clap of lighting struck the ground nearby, causing the whole of the hollow to light up. I didn't know how long I was asleep, minutes, or hours, I could not tell. However the flame has now turned into embers and I began to but more sticks into the dying fire, and ever so slolwy blowing into the embers to restart the flames. Another flash of lighting occured and the hole hollow lit up again. I leaned back against the tree's interior and watched as the flames began anew. Another flash of light opened the hollow. My eyes stopped focusing on the fire and I noticed a dark shadow covering the flames. I turned toward the entrance and saw two bright yellow eyes, peer inside. Another flash of light came into the hollow, followed by a loud boom from the lighting. My breath caught in my throat as I saw that the six foot figure at the entrance was a Anubian wolf.
The wolf slowly moved inside the hollow. In the light of the fire I saw it place its claw onto the bark. Its nails slowly grasping a hold onto the bark. Its head came in, and a small scar ran across its left eye. As its body came in I saw a small cut on the side of its body. It was the same wolf that was running in the battlefield. I eyed my tommy gun, but it was on the other side of the camp fire. My eyes came back to the wolf and it was not starring at me, but at the small fire. Its eyes began to dance as the flames continued to burn. The wolf then knelt down on the other side of the fire pit, shaking its head from the water, and laid down and warmed itself next to the fire. My heart was racing and my mind began racing as well. "The gun is right there. If only I could grab it. No that would be suicide. Why has he not try to kill me? Why is he-" A small gurgle sound came from the wolf. The wolf then sniffed the air and eyed at my pack. I looked down and back at the wolf. It kept its stare at the pack. I slowly placed my hand on it and opened it up. The wolf gave a sharp growl. I looked at him and I thought he was ready to pounce, but he remained still. I grabbed the food and sure enough the wolf perked up and saw what I held. It was the Jerky. The wolf licked its jowls, reavling its long fangs. I then tore a large piece and tossed it at the wolf. The wolf raised its large claw and grabbed the piece in mid flight. The wolf then smelled the meat in its hands, a second later it tore at it with his fangs. Taking many pieces at a time. He finished the rest within thirty seconds. The wolf then was still and stared at me. A small grin crept on its face.
"You know, you are terrible at hiding." The wolf spoke.
My heart stopped. It was pounding so hard I thought it was going to pop right out of my chest. I slowly replied back. "What do you mean? The rain would have kept any one from seeing me." The hollow was deep enough so that I could light this fire. How did you even find me in the first place?"
The wolf chuckled and shook its head from side to side. "No, not here, but on the field of battle. You were hiding under the pile of dead in that ditch. I easily saw you." My heart skipped a beat and sweat beated down my head. "It was quite easy." The wolf continued. "Your scent had given you away. I easily saw you underneath the dead. It was a clever trick that you did, but I saw right through it." My heart sank that a wolf had such abilities to detect anyone, even under a pile of rotting corpses.
"Then how did you find me! Why did you not kill me when you had the chance!?"
The wolf lowered its head. "Finding you in this hollow was a challenge due to the rain. But I smelled the smoke and a hint flesh coming from your cloths."
"You still didn't answer my first question."
The wolf looked at me. Its eyes piercing right into mine. "That's my own business." The wolf said and lowered its head.
"That still dosen't explain why your here. I am your enemy, why not kill me."
"Nature has turned for the worse this night, it won't let up soon. Besides, I don't want to have a rotting corpse stinking up the place when I wake up."
The wolf chuckled and I felt my whole body shiver. It lowered its head and said, "The food was delicious by the way. You wouldn't have more would you?"
I eyed the last piece of jerky in my hand. As I looked at the last piece of meat I notice the wolfs ears had perked up. "Take it." I tossed the meat to him. The wolf gobbled it up quickly and licked its chops. "Thank you."
"This wolf is thanking me?" I wondered. The wolf closed its eyes and was begginging to rest. "Wait, why were you running out there. Why didn't you kill me when you had the chance?" The wolf opened its eyes again and stared at the fire, a saddened look was in his eye. It waited there for a long while, not answering. When I placed a extra stick in the fire the wolf finally said,
"I just want out."
After he said that he closed his eyes and drifted to sleep. I sat there confused. Wanting out? Why would he want that, what for? What purpose? The thoughts continued running through my head and I kept my watch on the wolf. I grabbed my shirt and some gear and placed it on while it slept. Heavy breathing was the only sound that it made. As my eyes grew heavy so did my determination to keep watch, hoping it won't slit my own throat when I sleep. But as watching the wolf sleep made me tired I soon could not stop the urge, and I to drifted to sleep and headed into my waking dreams.
I awoke with a shock when I hear a wolf howl coming from the forest. I looked for the wolf near the dead fire, it was gone. I grabbed the Tommy gun on the other side and grabbed the ammo that I gathered. Only two magazines, not enough. I looked outside and the wolf was standing there. It sniffed the air and turned toward me.
"They are coming, you must flee at once."
I aimed my gun at him and he didn't flinch. "Why should I trust you?"
The wolf turned to the side and I heard another long howl coming from the forest.
"It's to late, there here." The wolf turned towards me. "Shoot me."
"What?" I said back.
The wolf didn't reply but gave a loud roar at me. I fired away and he took off. I followed outside of the hollow. The rain has stopped but it was still late into the night, the grass was damp to my feet. I checked my gear. The two magazines, and a single grenade attached to my belt. I looked out and I heard more howls in the forest. I swallowed hard and looked into the forest again. Six pairs of eyes were starring at me. I opened fire. The Figures disappeared but I continue to lay a barrage of fire. My clip emptied I quickly switched to the last magazine. When it was ready I weaved from side to side to find out were they are. I heard more growls coming from in inside the forest. A rustle in the bushes caught my eye. I fired a few shots. No movement. "Cmon!" I looked around again, trying to catch a glimpse of any of the wolves. I fired again. The trees rustled all over.
"You are all cowards! Why not finish me now and get it over with!" I turned around and bumped into something. I looked up and a Wolf was starring down at me, A large sheild was in its hand. "We intend to do so." The wolf lifted its shield and slamed it against me. I flew back and landed hard into the ground, ten feet away. I gasped for breath when I landed. Before I could get back up and grab my gun off the ground another wolf was already on me. It lifted me and placed its claw on my neck. I thought he was going to snap my neck but it didn't. As I stood there helpless more wolves came out of the forest, including the one that tried to warn me. I noticed its ears and head were down, I wondered why. In total, seven wolves were present before me. The one that hit me I knew from the start. He was the one wolf that our commanders always warn us about.
The Darklord Khosumet.
I heard many rumors surrounding him. The only known Darklord to ever lead his own into battle. He might have been the one who made us retreat in the first place. The wolf leader walked toward me and said, "We never get many stragglers." His voice sounded like that from inside a deep cave. He looked at its blade for a moment and then back at me. "I'm going to enjoy this." He stepped forward until he was inches from my face.
"Where shall I start, take out your eyes, remove your manhood? Or make you experience many cuts all over your body before you die?"
I looked at him straight in the eye and replied, "How about you remove your awful breath. Seems to me that you ate nothing but garbage since you got here." The wolf said nothing, but kept his gaze on me. I continued. "Better yet, how about you burn off that fur of your's. You smell so bad that you would not be able to howl to the moon because your so embarrassed to even show yourself. Or better ye-"
The wolf japped two of its long fingers into my mouth. I gagged as he grabbed my tounge with the tips of his fingers. "I got it, how about we remove that flapping tounge of yours and you watch me eat it right in front of you. Filthy human." Sweat pounded down the side of my face. I couldn't fight back as he drew my tounge out of my mouth. He raised his blade and I close my eyes and waited for the pain to come.
"Wait."
The Darklord said. I opened my eyes and the blade was mere inches from my tounge. The wolf leaned forward and began to sniff at me. " You smell different." He sniffed again. "You have the stench of a wolf on you." He let go of my tounge and I spat the awful taste out. He turned toward one of the wolves. "You!" He walked forward and stopped in front of the wolf that had the wound on his side. The same one that had warned me. "Why is your scent on that human!?" The wolf lowered its ears and looked away. The Darklord stared at him for a moment and quickly said, "Your ears give you away, showing that you have guilt. Your breathing is short quick bursts, likly that I am telling the truth and that you were with him. Yet why is he alive now, why not kill him, no, you didn't kill him, you couldn't." The voice in the Darklord has grown more deeper. The other wolves backed off expecting something to happen. I was going to say something but the wolf holding me had its claw under my neck, keeping me from speaking except for getting air. I struggled for each breath as I placed my hand on its claws to try to ease the pain, but it was not helping.
The Darklord then pressed further. "What do you have to say for yourself?" Without warning the other wolf attacked the Darklord, I didn't expect for him to attack but the other wolves seemed startled as I was. The two exchange quick blows before the Darklord forced him next to the tree and pinned him there.
"I deserted you! You sent out my Brood Brothers to die! I have no one left in my family! I was ordered to follow you, but I would not work with likes of you that will willingly fight alongside our enemies of the dead! You sent My Friends, my Kin, my Brothers off to die, It's all your fault! I'll kill you for this!"
The Darklord kidney punched him and the breath was knocked right out of him. "That kind of thinking can get you killed." He grabbed him and threw him straight to the ground. "You were to follow orders!" The darklord kicked him in the chest. The wolf placed his arms at his side to protect himself. "You were not meant to think!" He kicked again at the wolf's exposed head. The head snap back and the wolf turned limp. I was not sure if he was dead or half awake. "You were meant to kill on site!" The Darklord continued to deliver punishing blows to the wolf. I watched as the other wolves were shocked by the masters brutality to one of their own, yet they did not interfere, less they would have his wrath turned upon them. I couldn't let him get away with this. I felt the grenade still attached to my belt. I soon figured out what I could do. As the Darklord was still pounding away at the defensless wolf, I felt the tension ease on my throat. The wolf holding me didn't seem to notice as it was fixed on the Darklord. I had a chance.
I pulled the claw away from my neck and before he knew it, I clamped my teeth onto the side of its long fingers. The wolf yelp and whined out as I bit harder into its skin. The wolf pulled its arm away and I let his hand go, I was free. I dashed forward, yelling out as I did. The Darklord turned at my attention at the last minute. With my arms outstretch and my body low I ran straight into him, pushing him back. He took five steps back from the blow. I whipped my head straight up and felt something hit hard on the back of my head. It was the lower jaw of the Darklord that I hit. When my head was up the Darklords was raised higher. I grabbed his right leg and lifted it up, at the same time I put my weight on him and forced him back. We both hit the ground. I got on top of him and start pounding away. I land a few blows at his face before he raised his sword up at me. I grabbed it and slammed it agains the ground, forcing him to let it go. I was surprised that the other wolves were not going to attack, or have not already done so. When his sword was knocked out I continued to punch at his face. I landed a few more blows when I felt a large hand grab my back. It was the Darklord's. He twisted my body and I landed on my back. He got to his feet and punched my square in the chest. The blow knocked the air right out of me and I curled into a ball until my breath came back.
The Darklord sat upright and looked down at me. He spat some blood out. "That is just like you human, unpredictable." He grabs my shirt and lifts me into the air. "But that is just like you. Your kind are weak!" He punched me in the gut again. I grabbed something from my belt. "Undisciplined!" He tossed me over to the wounded wolf. I landed hard right next to him. "Pathetic!"
I quickly looked up at him and smiled. I then lifted my finger and shown a small pin around my index finger. "Clever though." The Darklords eyes flashed open and whirled around, the grenade was on the ground in front of him. I covered my head from the blast. The last thing I saw was the wolf brandishing his sheild in front of himself, then a deafening sound blocked my ears. I looked up in time to see the wolf fly through the air over my head. The other wolves got out of the way as their lord was sent crashing into a large tree. He slumped down and he remained still for a moment. The other wolves were astonished at what they saw. I watched as there leader laid there dying. However, it would not last. For he stood up and there was fire deep within his eyes. His body was covered in cuts and his shield was scorched black from the blast. He coughed up blood and cried out. "You'll pay for that you filthy human! Kill him!" The wolf that held me charges forward. I had nothing left to fend for myself. I stared up at my enemy as he lunges forward.
A whizzing sound buzzed pass my head. It hit the wolf dead center in the eye. The wolf went down in an instant and landed next to my feet. The object that went by was a arrow. More arrows came down from the tree's and I was not sure who was firing them. The wolves scattered and the Darklord cries out. "GAHHHH, the accursed elfs, we are to few, fall back!" The Darklord took off into the woods. Two more wolves take off along with him. However two remained and were dodging the arrows as they come. I got to my feet and yelled for them to stop. I thought they were going to ignore me and fire away at there hated enemy. Surpisingly however, they stopped just like I said. A moment later sixteen elves, all Aubrian archers came down from the top of the tree's and landed all around us. They circled the three other wolves, bows drawn. Before I could say anything to stop them the two other wolves kneeled to the ground, put out the arms forward with the flat part of their hands sticking up. The two began saying something in a language I was not familiar with. One of the elves replied in the same language. The two wolves spoke again and when they finished, the elves withdrew their bows.
Before I could asked what happened, the wounded wolf spoke, "They spoke in the elven language. Anyone who speaks in it can not tell a lie."
"But why."
"They are not going to harm anyone." The wolf slowly got to his feet. "They surrendered themselves willingly, they are... like myself, I guess." Soon as he was finished, some of the elves went off into the woods. Likly to find the Darklord and any other wolf that is snooping around. One of the Aubriens came up to me. "Your lucky that your within the borders of Ullar, we apologize for not coming to your side sooner. We were going to aid you when you were not in harm's way, however you put yourself in more danger by helping these creatures, Khosumet would have killed you if you had not have set off that explosion."
I shrugged, "I guess I wasn't thinking straight." A half smile crept on the elfs face, he finished by saying, "We know where the rest of Jandar's soldiers are, their encampment is not to far from here, we can take you to them."
I nodded and the elf went to the others. Another elf grabbed my gun and my pack that had all of the dogtags still in it. I turned to the wounded wolf, who was already standing, and he was breathing slow and heavy. "Guess I know why you left huh." The wolf starred at me, his bright yellow eyes seem to gleam in the bright night sky. Turned out the first rays of dawns light was coming down on us. "I knew that if I was to die, I might as well say it out when I had to." I nodded to him and I thought for a second. "What will you do now?" The wolf gave out a small dry chuckle. "What I should do? I am a prisoner, nothing more."
"You could come with us, you could help greatly in the service to Jandar, and you might get revenge against Khosumet when you get the chance." The wolf laughed again and replied, "You expect me to fight alongside the men that I fought against, they would not take me and make me their friend. They would have my head if I am close to there blades. Why should I have that?"
"Might as well, otherwise you would be sitting in the mud eating prison food for the rest of the war." The wolf pondered for a moment and after a long silence he replied, "Your plan is... acceptable, if those two would agree with me, which they likly would, then we will fight for you, I will fight for you." "Glad you saw reason." I said back. I turned to walk away when the wolf took a step forward. His right leg went out over him and I turned and caught him in my arms. I lifted his large arm over my shoulder and supported his weight. "Thank you. I'm starting to trust you now, lets hope you can earn that trust." I smiled and we started walking. After a few feet he asked, "By the way, what is your name?" I looked at him and smiled. "Its Cameron, and you?"
"Fenris."
" You got a good name." "Likewise." We continued walking when he asked again. "You don't happen to have by chance any more of that seasoned meat now do you?" I smiled again, "The Jerky?" I chuckled. "No, but I know where to find some once we reach the camp." The wolf sighed with anticipation and was silent again.
As I walked with the elves and the other wolves, who were walking freely and not bound, I remebered everything of the whole ordeal that I went through since the past few days. I would never belive I would survive through it, and in the end, it dosen't really matter. For today I am alive, and have gained a friend. That is a victory that I can live with.
Hope you enjoyed, I know its a bit long, but its been awhile since I posted a story last, and I picked this out of the top of my head, and when I started it, I just had to continue. Glad to be apart of this, and I can't wait for the other stories.
I'll be here. What with school, some events to organize, and other things thoughy, I'm not sure if I have enough time to write up a decent story. I will fi I get a brainwave though.
Nice entry Bro-Man. Some great character interaction. Did that tree have bark on the inside?
