Woah. I was just told they have Monsoon by Tokio Hotel on here. Anyone know? I've been thinking of getting it for quite sometime. I like Tokio Hotel. I thought the lead singer was girl until i was informed otherwise. He's pretty cute though.

Heres what bothers me about Rockband. Its like what, 160 dollars? And only has 45 songs! The rest are DLC. Meaning you must pay more! Even after spending another 50 bucks, you are only left with like 75 songs!

It's 160 if you want a game that comes with three custom controllers. The controllers are supposedly going to sell for 60 for drums, 50-60 for guitar, and 30-40 for the microphone when they sell on their own, plus you will need a little thingy to plug them all in, and that runs for 10-20 bucks. Add that all up and you've got a hardware price of $150 to $180. The idea of the multiupack is that you are essentially getting the game disc for free by buying all the hardware.

Most folks I know went in with friends to split the cost, since you aren't likely to want the full kit unless you have folks to play it with locally. Whyen you look at it that way I don't think the price is that bad. Plus there's more than 45 songs....it's 60 or 70 I believe.

RockBand, right out of the box for 50 bucks (assuming you already own a guitar from the guitar hero series, which many fans of this game do), is a great buy. It's a solid game and offers a lot of play value....PLUS you can use the Xbox Live headset to sing, so even without splurging for the full kit you can have a friend over and have a blast. I think of the game as a platform for which I will buy music, like an iPod or a CD player....each song is going to be priced at .99 to 2.99 we've been told, although to date the highest price has been $1.99, and it usually works out to cheaper via multi-song packs or special discounts. Given that .99 has basically been established as the cultural norm for buying songs, an extra dollar isn't terrible when you take the differences between game and music into consideration. It's not bad given the sheer volume of play each song offers....four different instruments at four different difficulties. That's 16 ways to play the song, not counting working it into sets with other songs and trying to get crazy streaks or whatever.

If you were to purchase ALL available DLC songs, you'd have a total tracklist of 114 songs as of this past Tuesday, 2/12.

Below is a post I made in another thread before Nether shut it down.....

There is some argument over Hysteria, D.O.A., Received your Letter, and Still Alive.

Some folks think Hysteria may be Def Lepard instead of Muse, or that D.O.A. may be Van Halen. Given Harmonix's history with certain bands and the licensing issues, Foo Fighters is far more likely for D.O.A. and Muse for Hysteria. Van Halen and Def have not allowed any of their music in these sorts of games thus far, while Foo Fighters has a history of many song releases between the Rockband and Guitar Hero games. Muse is not yet a player in this area, but given that they are not as big of an act, it would not be unreasonable for them to benefit from the exposure.

Received your Letter is VERY obscure, but that foreign song is the only reasonable rock track on the interwebs with four parts to play. Still Alive MIGHT refer to a Johnny Winter track "Sill Alive and Well" but none of the other songs had their names changed on the list, plus Harmonix has said they were planning a video-game song similar to GH3's Halo 3 release, plus both games were invovled with EA and are available on the 360 and PS3. When assembling the list I therefore put the songs where it seemed they would most likely go.

Also, the bonus track from Nirvana's "Nevermind" album "Endless, Nameless" is mentioned by some fans....as that track is not really workable Rockband material, nor is it on every copy of the album nor listed in the track listing, I did not include it.

I also did not include the bonus rerelease tracks on "Who's Next" as they were not present on the original release of the LP and are generally not considered part of the classic album.

Finally, to address sequel and Red Hot Chil questions from the other thread.....

There is an ever-growing buzz that there will be no sequel to this game, at least not for a loooooong time compared to the yearly Guitar Hero installments. Harmonix views the game as an ever-changing platform, and will support it with weekly DLC for 2008 and beyond, branching into full album downloads and other large expansions. If there is a sequel, they have been quoted on more than one occasion as saying they will be working to make all DLC you buy compatible with the next game....see what I mean about it being a platform? The idea is that you buy a Rock Band game, any Rock Band game, and pick the music you want in it. Sure they charge you for that but the price is reasonable for such variety.

As for the Red Hots.....wouldn't surprise me in the least to see a three-song pack for them this year. Nearly every major band (not the one-hit wonders) on the game disc supposedly selected and authorized the use of multiple songs...that's why we have gotten so many Metallica, Police, Black Sabbath, etc....plus second and third songs from a lot of other core disc acts. That trend should continue, wiht large Who and Nirvana packs forthcoming. Red Hot Chili Peppers are a very game-friendly band, so its hard to imagine them being the holdout here given their history with Harmonix's games.

I think it is coming out for Wii someday. I actually thought it was already out for Wii, but I just checked and I guess its not. Seems like a safe bet, but the Wii's lack of a hard drive might make things difficult for a game that is billed as a music platform and expects to do a ton of it's sales from DLC. Where would you save content? DLC is not the Wii's strongest suit.

You can put an SD card in the Wii for pictures and extra storage space.

Wii version

No actual date is set for a Wii version of this, but from what I read on the net, the assumption is April/May for a release date. I'll just have to make due with GHIII and playing Rock Band at my buddies place about once a week until then.
