The Book of Winston
The Book of Winston C3G DARK HORSE WAVE 53 THE END? Comic Front PDF Comic Back PDF Mini Front PDF Mini Back PDF The figure used for this unit is a Monopoly Gamer figure from the Overwatch set. Its model number and name are Winston. _________________________________________________________________ Character Bio - A super-intelligent, genetically engineered gorilla, Winston is a brilliant scientist and a champion for humanity's potential. The Horizon Lunar Colony was established as a first step for humanity's renewed exploration of space. Among its residents was a group of genetically enhanced gorillas that were intended to test the effects of prolonged habitation in space. One gorilla displayed such rapid brain development from the gene therapy that he was taken under the wing of Dr. Harold Winston, who taught him science and inspired him with tales of human ingenuity. The young gorilla passed his days assisting with the scientists' experiments, watching the distant blue world outside his habitat window, dreaming of the endless possibilities that awaited him there. But his life was thrown into chaos when the other gorillas led an uprising, killed the mission scientists, and claimed the colony for their own. Taking on the name of his beloved human caretaker, Winston built a makeshift rocket and escaped to Earth. There he found a new home with Overwatch, an organization that represented everything he had come to admire about humanity. Winston was finally able to live up to the heroic ideal that had been instilled in him. Now with the fall of Overwatch, Winston has gone into seclusion, once again cut off from the world he believes in, but longing for the days of heroism to return. -Archived Overwatch Wiki (Overwatch 1 bio) _________________________________________________________________ -Rulings and Clarifications-

Re: The Book of Winston - Design Phase
Little unsure about Primal Resilience, but otherwise I'm pretty happy with this design but happy to make any tweaks.
In the games when he goes into his angry, hulking out form, his health is doubled. While there is precedent for halving and rounding numbers down with Vampirella, I'm wondering if it's too finicky to warrant doing here (though I know Nobody was wanting something like that for a flip card Hulk), so could try to figure out the wording for that here too. An alternative could be to just up his defense a bit. In lore stuff he seems to become more durable, though his armour blocks a lot of bullets as is anyway. He's taken several shotgun blasts a close range before going down. Could also make his flip a once per game, either so he only flips back and worth once a game, or once he's angry he's not flipping back, or even wounds on the front side go into a pool, then when the back side is destroyed those wounds are removed, he flips and the pool goes back on this card. |

Re: The Book of Winston - Design Phase
Once he rages out, I don’t think he’ll ever be able to flip back in some matchups. Which I guess could be okay, it just doesn’t feel very evocative of the game.
I almost feel like the recruitment is backwards? OW as a group has the identity of being from all over the place, so D.Va bringing in another Pilot feels odd. What if he could recruit a class that wasn’t shared by any other figures on your team? |

Re: The Book of Winston - Design Phase
It depends how much balance we want between the game mechanics vs. animations, comics etc. When he rages in the other stuff, he's usually raging until either he goes down or the enemy does. Not sure how to let him swap back if we did want to change that, unless he marks a figure that keeps him raged as long as they're alive.
I think either could work but I do like that recruitment idea! I think my only concern is tying in someone nasty, but being just one figure it should be fine? I'd probably drop the ignore wound part on the back side card, or change his class on that side, because of Invisible Woman synergy. Avengers Cap could also lead to some interesting stuff alongside Tracer. |

Re: The Book of Winston - Design Phase
Didn't we rule that flip cards start on which ever side has the points lists, so the first line of Primal Fury isn't needed. It seems really easy to flip his card right now, 2+ W's to any ally could be the first attack of the game.
Also as worded you flip the card if Winston himself is destroyed, but he has the same life on the other side so he'd still be destroyed. I think that's a solid argument for doubling his life on the other side of the card, then dropping the 2+ W's for just destroyed as the trigger. Then the flip happens when the first figure in your army is destroyed. Wouldn't then need the ignore 1W part with double life. |

Re: The Book of Winston - Design Phase
All the 1.0 flip cards I can find have that first line, but happy to remove it if that's a new rule.
Destroyed as the trigger sounds good, and if we doubled his life it may be worth lowering his defense and/or changing his class on the back side just so Invisible Woman doesn't become too strong a pick for the faction. As worded right now though, he wouldn't flip if he was destroyed as the flip is at the end of a turn, where he would of already been removed from the board. Yeah I think that flip card rule is a 2.0 thing.

Re: The Book of Winston - Design Phase
This is where we could be at after the changes. One way we could limit how long he's raging for is placing a marker on the card that makes him angry, then when that card is destroyed he turns back.

Re: The Book of Winston - Design Phase
Wait, so he gets destroyed, then you flip him? How does that work?
C3G can be played with official Heroscape, but it's not recommended.
