Really rotten luck for Black Canary in this one, and she ends up getting clobbered by Old Lace, giving the Runaways a solid victory.

This one went a little more as expected. Old Lace got some good hits in, but the Mutant bonding eventually proved too much to overcome. This one was closer than it appears because X-23 was in jeopardy when Old Lace went down, but she healed up before making her way over toward the Start Zone to mop up Oracle.

Unit Summary:

• Runaway's Companion: chose Molly. Took turns in place of Molly several times

Old Lace played a relatively small role here, appropriate to her point cost. She's nice for Martian Manhunter to have around, but she's not outdoing Vulture or Angel anytime soon.

Fairly solid win for Martian Manhunter, but a lot of that was down to good luck and Blob helping Martian Manhunter take out Professor X quickly.

• Damage Done (Normal Attack): 3 wounds to Cyclops in 1 attack
• Runaway's Companion: chose Karolina
• Swift Carry: used to Carry Karolina

THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY: Still need to get some figure-mover games in to really put Swift Carry to the test, but for small-scale Runaways games, 130 feels fair.

EDIT: Tried her out in a Martian Manhunter build and she seemed alright. The movement option is definitely nice. Still feels okay at 130.

Thanks a ton for that! She seems like a decent workhorse but not really that impressive next to dedicated figure carry dudes, which is what I wanted.

I'm on vacation starting this week so I'll definitely be able to finish up her initial.

Units: Gert Yorkes, Chase Stein, Karolina Dean, Molly Hayes (460 Points) vs. Luke Cage, Firestar, Jewel (460 Points)

Summary

ROUND 1: Each of the Runaways goes forward, Karolina leading to keep up her shield, then Chase. Luke and Jewel approach and engage. Luke deals three wounds to Chase, Molly runs in and hits Jewel for two. Then Jewel finishes Chase off.

ROUND 2: Karolina falls back and takes one leaving engagement, then fires on Luke - who whiffs, taking two wounds. Firestar comes in but does no damage. Molly tries to attack Luke but... falls asleep, losing her team the next two turns. Jewel moves on Lina (and misses), Luke keeps on Molly (does nothing), and Firestar aims at both (and fails). But then Luke takes another turn... rolls five skulls... and Molly whiffs! With ten dice! Dead in one turns!

ROUND 3: Jewel takes a turn and kills Karolina. Then, while it takes five turns, she and Luke manage to take out Gert.

Who won?: Cage's Angels win; 2 Wounds on Luke Cage, 2 Wounds on Jewel, Firestar unharmed, 3 Rounds.

Thoughts: Chase goes down hard, then Molly gets awful luck, then Karolina has nothing left. So they failed pretty miserably despite making some nice progress early on.

Gert's bonus never made a difference - they won the first two rounds regardless, then lost by 8 for the final round.

Summary

ROUND 1: Cyke takes the first turn, sending out the team. Martian Manhunter flies in, punches Cyke, and... kills him. Turn one. Huh. MM makes his way around, attacking Psylocke (and dealing two wounds) and taking none from Jubilee. Molly is Directed up to engage Jubes.

ROUND 2: Betsy uses her Psychic Knife and misses, Jubes does nothing to Molly. MM also misses his swing. Psylocke deals one to MM in return. Molly hits Jubes for three. Psylocke does way better with her Knife, dealing two wounds and taking away last MM's turn for the round.

ROUND 3: Psylocke deals another wound with her Knife. MM does nothing to her, and then she does nothing to him. MM flies back and again does nothing, but moves up Gert to engage Jubes and moves Molly toward Betsy. Betsy dives into the water after MM and delivers a finishing blow with her normal attack. Molly takes the last turn in the round but... falls asleep.

ROUND 4: Molly engages Psylocke and, with height, swings five skulls against her single shield (+ autoshield) - finishing her off! She moves over to Jubes but fall asleep again.

ROUND 5: Jubes makes one valiant effort to take down Molly, but fails. One big hit takes her out.

Who won?: J'onn and the Runaways win; Martian Manhunter destroyed, all others unharmed, 5 Rounds.

Thoughts: Great luck in the first round (taking out Cyke on turn one) really set the stage here. Mostly the Manhunter show, but Molly dealt three to 'locke and everything to Jubilee. Gert uhh... well, she did tie down Jubilee for a bit. For what that's worth.

The first round, if there was a full gamut of OMs on Runaways (rather than MM), it would have had them win initiative. Same for the second round. Not relevant beyond that.

THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY: Essentially a filler unit. The initiative boost is so minor to not really matter... we could probably double it to +2 per OM, but that would probably be too impactful. I think 20 is fine.

GENERAL THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT: Didn't leave the start zone in the first game. Ran up to hide, then tackle Jubilee in the second, which I found amusing. She's a civilian, what can I say?

Summary

ROUND 1: The Runaways all move forward, bunching together (a bit unwise with Canary in play but, hey, Lina has her shields up). The Arrows get on height while Canary and Robin sneak forward, attacking but not wounding anyone.

ROUND 2: Canary and Robin jump into the fray, dealing one to Karolina. Old Lace leaps over (Lina on her back) and attacks Dinah twice, dealing two wounds. She responds with a scream, dealing another to Lina, and Robin deals a third. Chase blasts with his Fistigons but fails. Ollie runs down, takes aim at Karolina, nails his Skill Shot, and takes her out. Then Molly punches Dinah for a third wound.

ROUND 3: Molly - again - falls asleep almost immediately. Canary uses her Fists of Fury to bring Old Lace up to 3 Wounds, then Green Arrow fires and misses Molly. Old Lace finishes off Canary, then deals one to Robin. Chase rejoins the party, Green Arrow (again) misses Molly, and that's about it.

ROUND 4: Old Lace attacks Robin, deals a wound. Arrow hits the entire Runaway team, dealing one to Old Lace, who spends her next turn killing Robin. Connor fires the shot that finishes off Old Lace and Gert. Molly gets mad and charges in, but Ollie can't deal a wound.

ROUND 5: Molly tries to punch Connor and fall asleep. Again. Arrow still misses. Chase comes to deal one to Connor, who deals two wounds right back. Finally, Molly takes one from Ollie.

ROUND 6: Molly misses her first attack, and Oliver Queen disengages, firing on her as he does - dealing another wound. She just turns around and bops Connor, three wounds, finishing him off. Chase engages Green Arrow, does nothing, Green Arrow falls back and deal another to Molly.

ROUND 7: Chase follows, and a good punch dishes out two wounds. Ollie tries a Hail Mary disengage, and almost does it, leaving Molly with one Life remaining. Chase follows and brings him up to three. He doesn't take the risk of disengaging again and misses his punch on Chase. Molly runs in and finishes him off with a punch to the gut.

Who won?: The Runaways win; 4 Wounds on Molly Hayes, 2 Wounds on Chase Stein, all others destroyed, 7 Rounds.

Thoughts: Giving Old Lace double attack is SOLID. Swinging ten dice in one turn is even better than Molly has to offer, and on height that's twice as potent. That and Swift Carry, which is a godsend in Runaways builds, makes her probably the strongest team member so far. Definitely think she needs a point bump after this one.

The initiative boost was never relevant, nor was it ever close to being relevant.

Summary

[COLOR=red][B]ROUND 1: Jean comes in hot, hurling herself forward. MM engages and they fight, as the Runaways swarm behind. She starts throwing them around, dealing two to Karolina and one to Old Lace. MM flies away and blows Jean away, bringing Phoenix into play.

ROUND 2: Molly swings and misses on Phoenix. Phoenix, for what it's worth, misses on her Psionic Blast but hits Chase for one with her normal attack. Old Lace hits her for two wounds, then Phoenix fire burns Chase for a second. Another turn, another wound to Chase. MM attacks and does no damage. Chase moves onto height, which, unfortunately, accidentally moves him away from Lina's force field - Phoenix finishes him with his next attack.

ROUND 3: Phoenix succeeds with her Psionic Blast, knocking Old Lace into the water. She takes an LEA from Molly, then attacks MM, dealing no damage. Molly charges in and attacks, dealing two wounds, finishing her off, and bringing forth the Dark Phoenix - and dealing one wound to her and to MM via Phoenix Fire. MM falls back and blasts her again, dealing one wound.

ROUND 4: The initiative boost matters! Runaways win by one due to it. Lina flies in to support her friends, but bad timing, as the Psionic Wave blows Molly away, giving Dark Phoenix a clear shot - one blast and Karolina is finished off. Old Lace dives in after and deals a huge THREE wounds to Dark Phoenix! A great Psionic Blast hits all three remaining figures, pulling MM close. Close enough to attack, bringing him up to 3 Wounds! MM takes his shot, bringing her up to 6 totals wounds. Unfortunately, her next turn is another successful Psionic Blast - MM is killed, Old Lace wounded, and then Old Lace finished off with her normal attack.

ROUND 5: Now it's just Molly (with two Fatigue Markers) and Jean. Molly moves in, and doesn't fall asleep - good. Dark Phoenix attempts a Psionic Blast and fails, then misses with her normal attack. She's parked too low, not on height - a bad move. Molly grabs height... she stays awake... and she swings for FOUR WOUNDS! Puts her over the top! Dark Phoenix is down! The universe is saved!

Who won?: The Runaways win; 3 Wounds on Molly Hayes, all others destroyed, 5 Rounds.

Thoughts: Old Lace and Martian Manhunter work pretty good together - that extra movement is ace right out of the gate. And again, that double attack is just super useful in the right situation. She wasn't the star player here, but in total she did two wounds to Phoenix and three to Dark Phoenix, which is definitely swinging above her weight class.

The initiative boost was also relevant for once! Cool!

THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY: Together they're awesome, which is something I'm super happy about. In fact, at 150 they definitely feel undercosted - I'd be fine bumping both of them by 10 points, putting them at 170 together, and going from there. Old Lace alone is valuable, with Swift Carry. Add two attacks of 5 on top of that and it's just a damn solid unit all around.

GENERAL THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT: Tons of fun. Super mobile, two big hits a turn, and pretty hardy once you add Karolina to the mix - 6 Life/5 Defense is nothing to sneeze at. The Runaways continue to play just as I'd like them to (run in, hit fast, and start falling apart if they can't break down the wall fast enough). Old Lace adds to that strategy perfectly and with Gert as an add-on, she gets even more impressive.

So those tests were done with Gert at 20 and Old Lace at 130, so together, 150. I've bumped them both, so Gert is now 30 and Old Lace is 140. @Ronin , since you tested Old Lace alone, does that sound fair? Probably makes her a bit overcosted but I think that's acceptable.

I assume just regular old public playtesting would be best here? Maybe send out some of the other Runaways? But honestly these two and Molly are a solid team on their own.

I think Danger Room testing is not gonna be a thing anymore except in special cases, so yeah, normal public testing. You can probably send out or not send out the other Runaways at your own discretion.
