Heroscape without Hexes!

I was wondering if this idea has ever occurred to any one- playing heroscape without hexes. It would be simple- you merely convert any horizontal distance values into inches (6 move -> 6 inches), and any height value's into half inches (you have height advantage if your 1/2 inch higher than the opposing figure, 5 inches gives you the +2 bonus). Think of the possibilities! You can now play heroscape anywhere! Thoughts?

I play HS because I don't want to have to measure everything like in other miniature war games. Just my 2˘

That is true...

But I was more thinking of this as an ultra portable heroscape- you just bring the figures, the cards, and the dice and you can play anywhere- the dinner table, the pavement outside, on top of a piano, etc.

Erasmas Woo who?
Well, the nice thing about this is that you could play on those beautiful Warhammer tables and such that people have set up at game stores and the ilk. While part of the appeal with HS is in it's simplicity with the game board... verstility is always a bonus. If the players want to move the game to a different location, then more power to them!
After all, missionary fufills the basics, but sometimes you just need something a little extra.

Thanks for the idea and the mathmatical groundwork, DB!

Actually, you could just guesstimate the distance based on base size. For example, a figure with 5 move could move 5 lengths of its base. The only thing is that you couldn't play with people that would cheat, as it would be too easy.

Ditto ( I still have my Warhammer if I want to play like that ) Part of the appeal to this great game is the HEX as well as a number of other things.
